We play games here, right? What are you currently playing, friends? Long-term runs, playing quick games you can finish in a night? What do you have slowly simmering on the back burner for playing once in a while things you're looking to play soon?Post screenshots!
OP here, playing Dark Cloud because I never finished it as a kid.
>>12066905Lol I put the title in the name box. Classic stuff.
>>12066904I've been really enjoying Bust a Groove lately. I'll probably try the sequel tonight. Not retro by /vr/ standards, but I've also been putting a crazy amount of hours into Smackdown vs Raw 2011 on the PS2. The CPU sometimes puts on great matches
playing through starcraft now that I got my crt monitor
>>12066910I've been playing that too lmao. Emulating with Duckstation and have retro achievements set up and I don't think I can get the command display one.
>>12066910played them as a kid, recently replayed both BAGs and had a great time, pretty soulful games. Got fever time in every song in both games, the secret boss in 2 is pretty trippy
>>12067032No fucking way, Steve, you're on 4Chan?I only know one guy into retro achievements.
>>12066904No, we just jerk off over their physical packaging.
>>12067051I'm not Steve lol. I wasn't gonna use them at first but I gave in anyway. I didn't even know about it until using Duckstation which I also didn't know about until like a month ago. ePSXe fucking sucks.
Wario Land 2
>>12066905I heard this game is grindy as fuck and kind of hard. Dark Cloud anons, should I play this game before DC2 or just skip to 2? Is DC1 worth playing at all?
>>12066904Pokemon Ruby for the GBA. The only Pokemon game I've ever completed is Pokemon Yellow. I think I lost interest for Pokemon around Gen 2.
These are very old saves I've been continuing from the last 7-8ish years>Secret of ManaWeird game. Very poorly designed progression mechanics. Music ranges from really good to extremely awful, like to the point of me rushing to leave just to change the music bad (see Dwarf Village). Party AI is only horrendous from what I can tell becasue they frequently get stuck in things and hinder your ability to move. I'm not sure how i'll feel about it later on, we'll see, I just reached the Wind Palace.>Xenogears10/10 story11/10 music0/10 gameplayThis game is a horrible slog. I have battled with myself for many years to get through this game. Each section takes forever to get through, the game is horribly horribly paced, battles take forever, encounter rates are high sometimes and sometimes not, exploring environments is utterly nauseating because of the completely dogshit camera and claustrophobic spaces, it is a genuine misery to play this game. I suffer through all of this to get to the story scenes, which are very good. It should have been a text adventure game because fuck playing it.I just finished the orphanage scene with Billy and entered some dungeon. I'm not sure how far along I am, but it seems I'll be entering the Tower of Babel soon?>GrandiaJust started this actually, Saturn version. 10/10 presentation but once again the intro is a horrible slog. I'm also the type to exhaust dialogue in JRPG's and this does the Trails thing where every NPC has a new thing to say after each story event. The battles are great fun, but I hope the town sections don't last as long moving forward. I've completed the first 2 dungeons (last dungeon was a mine of some sort). I'm about to jump on a train to the next town (dungeon)? from the starting town.
>>12066904>quick games you can finish in a nighti love quick games like this nowadays, any suggestions?
>>12066904I'm on the last castle in super mario lost levels (all-stars version). Only level I cheated on (got stuck and googled solution) was 2-2. I've also been playing smb and smb3. And earthbound (on the final boss). Lost levels completely hijacked my brain for a couple days though.
Still always randomly playing thru sonic 1 or 2, DKC2, crash 1, halfway thru chibi robo currently and I think I want to finally play and beat Final Fantasy XII>>12067253Never played them but if I remember correctly, my brother played the shit out of DC1 but said DC2 sucked
>>12067276Most Fighting games if you dont plan on clearing the game with every character.
Golden Sun. Just started The Lost Age.Writing down that password and entering it took a really fucking long time, it better be worth it.Currently not a fan of playing as characters I don't really give a shit about (particularly Felix), I hope that doesn't last too long.
>>12067272>Music ranges from really good to extremely awful,This makes me suspicious of you. It's true that a few of the tunes are overbearing though. But if you end up disliking the weirdest of the gamelan tunes then the problem is in you not the game and you need to fix it
>>12066904I'm playing a 2007 portable puzzle game that I can't talk about here without breaking the rules. It's good though, so give it a try. I just bought a couple of much older games on eBay, but I haven't gotten around to playing them yet
>>12066904I beat Endless Waltz on sufami. Fun challenge and some of the moves the gundam get are insane. Nice visuals and a good time at least.
>>12066904Earthbound is my current playthrough, first time and mostly blindAm in Twoson rn
>>12067264How are you enjoying the peak of Pokemon anon?
>>12067403Genesis, SNES or Sega CD?
>>12066904Still playing through all the Spyro games.A Hero's Tail is a major slog.
>>12066904You'll never get my data, salarymanbot.
>>12067428Don't worry, we already know you've played Hey You Pikachu on average 71 minutes a day for the last week.
>>12067407>eatrthblund>genesis or sega cdWut
>>12066904Just became a NEET again, so to celebrate I'm going to replay the Crash Bandicoot trilogy
kula world
>>12067476>based neet plays crashBut will you 101/102% any of them ?
>>12067496I already did 1 and 2 but I always get filtered by speedruns in 3, probably because I'd rather just play CTR for that.I might try it this time though.
>>12067524Nice. When I was a kid I maxxdd out on 2, 3 and CTR but still have not 101/102 crash 1. Maybe ill do that soonPost more cute coco
>>12066905>girls currently dress like this
>>12066904What i'm currently playing>recentlyIntelligent Cube on Ps1 (emulated on PSP)>Long runMetal Gear 2 MSX(emulated on PSP)>Put on the side for nowVamprie the masquerade redemption (with various mods that improve the gameplay)>planning to playPolicenauts ps1 (emulated on psp)
>>12067735Add a ton of bad tattoos and you're right...
>>12066904God of War 1 on RPCS3. Almost finished Pandora's Temple. Since I'm using DS4windows I have a macro for autofiring L2 and Circle for those parts. Just a finger on my touchpad and the button shits cash.
>>12066904been playing a lot of things but not as many as i could be doing since i've been unemployed since june...>Dynasty Warriors 3-5revisiting 3 and 4 on the PS2. loved them growing up. played 5 for the first time. did 2 campaigns on each of them and i think i'm satisfied with them>Super Metroidnever played it before, it's not bad so far. a little obtuse. only a couple hours in and i've gotten stuck twice not knowing what to do. first was needing to use the small bombs on a section of floor that was completely unmarked, now i'm stuck between not able to get past this door that closes too fast, areas where your health drains really fast from heat radiation (?), and being at the bottom of a vertical section that i can't get back up (even with the jumping boots). sucks.>Blood Death Wishplayed blood proper for the first time earlier this year, loved it. now trying out death wish later today to start off spoopy season.
I'm playing Sakura Taisen 1 (translated). The story is nice, but the battles suck.
>>12066904Doom for the PS1 (On a PSP). Still haven't beaten every Doom 1 level. I always chose the 3rd chapter and finished it that way, a lot of chapter 2 levels are new for me.
>>12066904I played Tomb Raider 1 for the first time like, 6 months ago? I got to Egypt and quit because I started to find it very boring. However, I'm playing it again now and am having a lot of fun. I felt bad for quitting it, and I think it's mostly just because I was unemployed and kinda depressed at the time. I just got to St Francis' Folly, which to be honest, is a very fucking annoying level. It kinda reminds me why I stopped liking the game in the first place. The platforming is so good and satisfying, but the levels seem to drag on and are just tedious at times. The god themed rooms in the second half of St Francis' Folly felt like such a chore to do.
>>12067476Almost 9 hours of non-stop playing but I did it!100% in Crash 1.
>>12067725I'm pretty sure Crash 1 only has 100%, I don't think I've missed anything including any optional bonus stages.>Post more cute cocoJust for you, anon.
>>12068145The first game that had above 100% completion was Crash 3: Warped. The first two only go up to 100%. People usually confuse them with the N.Sane remakes, which indeed go above 100%. (C1 is 105%, C2 is 102% and C3 is 108%).Trivia: while the PSX american version of Warped goes up to 105%, the japanese version goes up to 110% because of the Pocket Station game.
>>12066904playing through sm+alttp randomizer with my mage girls, haven't played it in forever. still haven't found the mirror funnily enough but i have nearly everything else, i'm on my way to check the wave beam room in brinstar and if it's not there or at pyramid fairy i might have to do some dungeons earlier than i'd like since i don't have the hookshot either. hoping it's not in ice palace since that's a pendant dungeon.
After the previous threadly /doom/ challenge, I decided I wanted to play through Osiris in full, which is this really old but pretty cool pseudo-Stargate conversion for Doom 2.Ancient Egypt but with sci-fi and guns is a fun combination, makes me wanna rewatch Stargate SG-1.
>>12068145>>12068453Thanks for clarifying and explaining total % in the games. Maybe I will 100% crash 1 to see the special ending with tawna>>12068132>tomb raider 1Should I start with this one or is 2 or another one better and less tedius like you said
>>12066904I like coming back to old Beatmania games every once in a while as a refresher from grinding in the current arcade version. There's almost no real point playing them when pretty much all of the songs are included in the latest version on top of years of QoL improvements, but it's nice to do as a novelty and for aesthetics (some of the old versions had really incredible and atmospheric UIs).Pic related is Beatmania Sound of Tokyo for PS1, a pretty unique entry in the series visually and soundtrack-wise. Had some friends over and we played the multiplayer with two IIDX controllers. If I had to recommend one entry for someone to check out I'd probably go with IIDX 12 Happy Sky for PS2. I mean just look at this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=21MJfcZmy9s
>>12066904Haven't played games in a long time now, so I have been replaying The Frozen Throne on Hard. Just got to the Undead campaign, already did Night Elf, "Human", and "Orc". I never realized how bad the difficulty curve is; each level is either insultingly easy or incredibly frustrating.>>12067272I've really wanted to play Xenogears, but this is bad news. I might just find some faster way to consume it if the gameplay doesn't appeal to me.>>12067276Just one night? You could probably do Silent Hill or Crash Bandicoot.
>>12066904Hey OP,I recently sat down and beat Super Metroid for the first time in over a decade, took me just over 4 hours. Currently playing through A Link to the Past, Super Hydlide (Mega Drive), Gothic and not retro Knights of the Chalice. Mostly focused on Gothic right now, I'm about halfway through (from what I've heard anyway), I'd never played it before but it is very cool once you're past the jank.
>>12066904Just going through the game gear library semi randomly. So far, judge dredd impressed me the most. I mean as a game I wasn't expecting to be anything good at all, but there's tons of good games sprinkled throughout its library. I'm looking forward to playing all the "demakes" once I'm done perusing.
Final fantasy v gba. I'm almost finished but I overdid it with the job farming early on and now it's all too easy
>>12068567well i bit the bullet and looked at the spoiler log and as it turns out, hookshot was in the purple chest but the magic mirror was in the hookshot cave on death mountain. did a little research and it turns out that you can save and quit with the dwarf/chest and bring them back to the light world that way.
>>12067404Its a very chill game to play. Also playing the GBA game just makes me appreciate Pokemon Yellow even more. Feels like the early GB Pokemon games had more events spread out through the map. I'm not too far in the game, I'm about to get a 4th gym badge.
>>12067736>Metal Gear 2 MSX(emulated on PSP)didnt know you could do that,is it a standalone msx emulator or another way to play it ?
>>12068737>Should I start with this one or is 2 or another one better and less tedius like you saidthe PS1 tomb raider games gets more and more tedious with each entry,i had 3 or 4 as a kid and could never finish it,one of them had platforming with vehicles.
>>12066904Does anyone know of any good snake (nokia) clones? I want to add one to my handheld
I've been chipping away at Moon Remix RPG for like a year or more and I'm wondering at what point I should look up a guide on how to actually finish it.
>>12066904I've been playing Arx Fatalis for the first time, just got to the tavern and I already have AHM YEOWK permanently seared into my mind. Also the back of my CD case has a snake woman shooting lighting from her hands, when do I get to see that?
>>12067261Worth playing but maybe not worth finishing.
>>12068945You're supposed to be using the guide at all times.
>>12066904just started Alone in the dark : a new nightmare to get into spooky season, played for about 2 and a half hours and given every conversation about this game saying its "mid" or downright bad im surprised how much i like it so far and i would even say that for now i like it even more than any resident evil and those get nothing but praise thrown their way but maybe i will understand why some people consider it bad further in the game.
>>12068894I use Fmsx, it's more a game emulator than the machine emulator. You load the games, you can have save states (they are good for metal gear). The "bad" is that it's not entirly plug and play, for every game you have to put custom settings especially for the buttons, but after you set it you're ready to go. But for text games or games that use a lot of keyboard features is not good, for space shooters, arcade and RPG games with set buttons it's good.
>>12069076Which version are you playing? I tried it on PS2 a while back and the loading times between each screen are so distracting, which is unfortunate because otherwise the game is pretty cool.
>>12068965It was fun to bash my head against for a while. It's like the world's strangest point and click.
>>12069310The PS2 version is the worst version to play, the loading times seem worse than on PSX somehow. It's best to play the GoG version, looks great and seemless screen transitions.anyway each background has to be loaded twice (lit and unlit) hence the long load
>>12069310PS1 version, the screen transition are pretty laggy but i don't mind, theres the PC version on GoG tho its probably your best bet for smooth screen transition.
>>12066904Just started playing Resident Evil 2 for the first time. Pretty cool so far. In the dark with a CRT on is super immersive.
I beat Heretic on the hardest difficulty without bringing items or weapons from the previous map. It was fun, but I can't help but feel that most of the enemies were too spongy. Either that or the game needs a weapon that can kill almost anything, like the BFG.I'm thinking about playing Resident Evil for the first time. I heard a lot about it as a teenager, but never paid attention.
>>12068737Play TR on PC. 3 and 4 are really long and the limited save crystals don't help any.
>>12066904I've been revisiting the PS1 Namco Museums, it used to confound me as a kid but I've grown a big appreciation for The Tower of Druaga recently.
>>12066904No. "We" only shitpost here.
>>12066904Zombies ate my neighbors for the seasonal kickstart. Probably won't beat it, but I'll be giving it a go a few times a week for the remainder of autumn.
>>12067261It's fun if you're into barebones dungeon crawls with a comfy yet somber vibe. It's all about resource management. You got a make sure your weapons are in good shape, have enough water, oil for the team, etc... Putting the towns together helps break up the grind. Though, it's very atmospheric and nice in the dungeons. Very unique vibe. Think I'll replay it again soon.
Playing through a ton of stuff off and on. Will also be playing through Resident Evil CVX for the Halloween season, but it hasn't come in the mail yet.>Castlevania: Symphony of the NightNever played it as I tend to get stuck in these kind of games but I'm pleasantly surprised by how fun it is to explore the castle. I knew the reputation this game had going into it, but it's seriously incredible so far. Checks every one of my boxes. Please tell me the second half is as good as the first.>Ridge Racer 5Not enjoying this one unfortunately. I'm a big fan of the series but this one just isn't clicking for me. Music sucks compared to other titles, announcer is annoying, controls feel stiff and maps repeat too quickly. Am I missing something here?>Persona 3: FESDidn't realize how long this was going into it, so I've taken a bit of break from it. I am having fun so hopefully that continues when I pick it back up.
>>12070835>Please tell me the second half is as good as the first.Anon, I...
i had 10e of xbox reward credit so i bought panzer dragoon orta since i never played that one, it's good
Trying to decide which shmup to 1cc next as a newbieSerious options are:>Dodonpachi>Dodonpachi Daioujou Black Label (I know this will take 30+ hours)>Dodonpachi Daifukkatsu>Ketsui (I know this will take 50+ hours)>Touhou Perfect Cherry Blossom Normal>Armed Police Batrider>Darius Gaiden>Crimzon Clover NoviceI realize some of these are way harder than others but I'm just going off what seemed the most fun
>>12070835>Please tell me the second half is as good as the first.got some bad news
ULTIMATE dead or alive 2 2004>that introHOLY
>>12066904Been playing Lunar: SSSC. My friend loaned me his copy that his brother got him for Christmas back in 1999, on the condition that I stream it for him. He hasn't played it since and it's my first time, so we're both having a blast.Mechanically, the it's about as bland as you can get, but the story is clearly a labor of love with very focused themes of romance and coming-of-age, and I'm not surprised the game got so many revisions and re-releases. I know it's cool to hate on the Working Designs localization, but goddamn it's memorable, for better or for worse.>>12067389Oh wow, I had no idea there was a Gundam Wing game on SFC. Is there like a main campaign/story mode?
>>12070835>Didn't realize how long this was going into it,Aren't most Personas generally long-ass affairs?
Just started Grandia and playing through the Phantasy Star series. Also playing some shmups on the side.
>>12071915>Just started GrandiaNice. I fucking love Grandia. The battle system is excellent, but it's kind of a shame the game is rarely difficult enough for you to make full use of it. Even still, it has great vibes and an unparalleled sense of adventure. If you like it, I highly recommend the sequel on Dreamcast. It's much shorter and arguably even easier, but the localization is GOAT. And both games have legendary OSTs, imo.
>>12071915>Also playing some shmups on the side. That's cool, what's your favorite? It's nothing special, but I really like Gradius III just because I can fire it up, put in the Konami code and mindlessly blast shit for a half hour or so. Axelay is cool, but it's fuckin' hard. I really suck at the mode 7 vertical stages.
>>12067272>Secret of ManaI think it definitely gets better as it goes. I did some grinding early on to circumvent the clunkiness and bad AI. It's really a game meant for multiplayer antics with your friends and not giving a fuck. But it absolutely has some GOAT music.>Grandia>I'm also the type to exhaust dialogue in JRPG's and this does the Trails thing where every NPC has a new thing to say after each story event.I'm the same way. I think the slow pace of the early game is somewhat intentional, however, and it definitely opens up as you go. Grandia uses the lack of an overworld to deliberately pace your adventure. If you end up enjoying it, I highly recommend Grandia II. It's much shorter and faster, but still has a ton of updating dialogue. I found it incredibly amusing, though, the localization is miles better than the first.
>>12066904Just beat mgs 1&2 on PS2. Started playing 3 but I don't like it as much. Loved the first two. Thinking about switching over to Gundam zeonic front or giving the armored core series a go. But I've been having friends over more lately, maybe I aught to get more co op or split screen games on hand...any recommendations?
>>12071903>Is there like a main campaign/story mode? Not particularly. You just go through a series of fights. It's a fighting game, a good one.
>>12072152I had the same issue playing MGS3 for the first time desu, I did stick with it though and still ended up really liking it. Also, which AC game are you gonna start with?
First time. I never rented or bought it as a kid because I always heard how short it was.
Was playing Paper Mario but i cant zone out to the mechanics. Great writing.Want to play the silent hill games and then the resident evil games because i just like scaring myself
>>12072152Mg3 picks up when you leave the jungle behind
