PS2 suddenly keeps freezing. Sometimes it freezes right on boot up, before even getting the starting screen, sometimes it freezes 10 minutes into gameplay. Is it kill?Fan vents look clean.
>>12067649Recalibrate the laser lens. It's easy. As it's powering on, quickly unplug it. Wait 20 seconds, plug back in. Then when it's booting up the menu screen unplug it again. Wait 20 seconds again. That usually fixes most DRE and freeze issues. If not, then consider replacing the console's battery. Yes it has one. That's how it saves console settings even when there's no power to it. It's cheap at less than $10 while lasting for a solid 2 decades.
>>12067649If it's freezing without even trying to boot into any games then that's quite bad. Maybe NAND corruption or some other type of system memory failure.Confirm that the fans are actually spinning when the system boots up and it's not overheating, and if you're comfortable try opening it up and cleaning it out with compressed air and 91% IPA. While it's open make sure everything looks firmly connected internally.
>>12067671I should also add that this hinges upon you having tested it without a disc in. If it's only freezing in the game then it's just your laser going out. Those are easy to fix or replace.
>>12067671>>12067673Thanks yeah, unfortunately I’ve tried with no disc in. I mostly use OPL with MX4SIO, but I’ve tried with those cards removed, and with a disc in, and no disc in, and it can still freeze.Fans are actually spinning. I guess I’ll try opening it up and see what’s what in the guts.
