>it's good because the voice acting is so badIs there anything cringier than millennial nostalgia? How can any non irony-poisoned person play this and not want to immediately mute the dogshit dialogue of this game?
>>12067672PSP version moggs original so bad
>>12067672who cares?
>it's bad because it's not mariozeldaIs there anything cringier than zoomer tastes?
>>12067672The VA literally isn't bad and I don't know why anyone thinks that.
>>12067692yeah i think some of the lines are goofy but the va's are completely fine for everyone
Ironic shitposting is still shitposting.
>>12067696>IronicNah people here genuinely hate video games
>>12067692>https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZlnskSFijXQIn what world is this considered good voice acting? It also sounds like it was recorded in a fucking bathroom.
>>12067692>I was called here by>*flips the page*>humans who wish to pay me tribute.
>>12067672It's better than like 99% of modern EN voice acting in JRPGs (and probably not just JRPGs) for sureThese days fuckall games have good EN voice acting even when the script is not written in Engrish like SotN's
>>12067707It's not that bad. It has this meme reputation as being the worst scene ever made but I've seen much worse. Really it just feels a little uncanny because the timing doesn't match the intended intensity of the argument. But that's probably more a technical thing where the piece of shit PSX is chugging to load up each line.
The worst of the bunch is Richter's actor and even then he was better than his shit in Resident Evil. It's hammy and goofy but the game is hammy and goofy, it's fine
>>12067672Richter's the only truly bad performance here. The voice acting is fine.
>>12067708>>12067707There is absolutely nothing wrong with the voice acting, both voices are extremely fitting to the characters, and they act out the script they were given well.If you wanna bitch about the melodramatic and theatrical script go for it. It has nothing to do with the quality acting that the actors did. You faggots haven't even seen shitty voice acting.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bangt7d9vGA
https://warosu.org/vr/?task=search&ghost=false&search_text=MariozeldaWhat's his mental condition?
>>12067672>>it's good because the voice acting is so badGoddamn straighthttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rFA08BJUtPo
>>12067672It's a no-budget game with the kind of B-movie cheesy acting you'd come to expect from a similar no-budget movie, so it really doesn't bother me.
>>12067692I think it's mostly the people who live in a country where English is their main languageI'm an ESL as you can get, and I grew up with these badly voice acted games - so even in my 30s - I still find these elements very charming and I have 0 cringe reaction no matter how bad they can get
who are you quoting
>>12067907I can only speak English and grew up in a predominantly English speaking nation. I have nothing but praise for the voice acting, especially given its contemporaries. Many PS1 games had poor acting, and SotN is not one of them.
What the fuck is this nonsensical low quality thread? How can you be so retarded to write that word salad of stupidity? Kill yourself
>>12067921I won't really go for "none of them", but compared to its contemporaries at the time I agree, the "hate" is overblown imo
I can totally tell that Richter is played by the same guy who did Chris Redfied's voice, but never in a million years would I guess that Dracula is voiced by Harry Mason
>>12067932Also both JP and US Richter actors sadly died.
>>12067951that's unfortunate, they couldn't have been that old
>>12067672It adds to the charm of being a hokey spooky adventure where you hunt Dracula. I rather have game writing that treats itself like some geeks playing a D&D campaign in the 80s and what they think sounds cool for the setting.(and are likely the exact kinds of people who worked on games back in the day)
>>12067707>n what world is this considered good voice acting? This is clearly more in the style of theatrical play enunciationWatch this, would you call this bad acting?https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-5JF9Gq5tL4Of course, it's not on the same quality and the audio recording is quite bad, I agree, but the new cinema style of acting that became commonplace in movies from the '80s onward at large is not the only way to modulate your voice
>>12067930>I won't really go for "none of them"Yeah, Koudelka had really fucking goodhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3exkOxSFNg8
>>12067956Richter's dub VA died in 2000
>>12067674>Yuri Lowenthal as AlucardI'm just gonna play the undub version
>>12067672Die monster.
yeah, of all the things that are "bad" about SotN, the voice acting isn't really. It's theatrical and funny. That's not the same thing. OG Resident Evil or Megaman 8 had bad voice acting.
>>12067672there is less than five minutes of dialogue in this whole game.
>>12067672>it's good because the voice acting is so badEvery dubbed 90s anime is literally this. You have no soul if you can't appreciate that.
>>12067672>zoomer puts down phone for two seconds and trys to play an old gameHad to be there faggot
>>12067672>dude can you believe people take joy in things, omg, that's like, SOOO embarrassing, don't they know I'm judging them? tell me why I should care what you think
Maybe I should try out SotN since 4chuds never stop screeching about it.
>>12067672Anyone following the Genesis demake some fan is making? I think its pretty intriguing. Would like to see more demakes of classic games being made.
>>12068103Arguably OG Resident Evil is also theatrical. You could make an argument it's TRYING to be like a bad movie, complete with bad actors. And it works because that game is basically a bad movie
>>12068753SotN is essential core, zoomertard
>>12069000Yeah it's fucking retarded. I think you're a retard for wanting something like that
>>12068127There's no way that's true. If it is that's kind of amazing considering how often people talk about it
>>12070169a lot of what's off in RE is due to the voice acting being directed by japanese people who didn't speak good English, and were just judging it by ear
>>12070221Well whether it's intentional or not doesn't really matter, now does it
>>12070221English teachers did the job cheap.
Die, titty monster! You don't belong in this world!
>>12070172This, he is just wasting years and years on polishing a simple proof of concept tech demo engine that will NEVER be finished and it it is, it will had a terrible first impression like X-Fusion had.He is literally trying to remake SotN as a linear stage based game, then he said he wanted to actually make the original Metroidvania map, how the hell he could fit those assets on a 4MB cart?I get it, HE STILL LEARNING! but, CMon!
>Is there anything cringier than millennial nostalgia?Bot post.
DARKLING! I smell your blood.
>>12067907If you speak perfect English it's still tolerable. Me and an old roommate had the whole opening dialogue between Richter and Drac memorized at one point.>>12070176It's like Phantasy Star 2, there's actually very little dialogue, but every line in the game is memorable so it doesn't feel like it.
>>12067672Of the countless hours I sak into that bitch they talked for less than 1The voice acting could have all been done by chris-chan and it would be a great game
>>12070169>You could make an argument it's TRYING to be like a bad movie, complete with bad actors.lmao
>>12071094>Me and an old roommate had the whole opening dialogue between Richter and Drac memorized at one point.>at one pointngmi
>>12071170I didn't forget it. I just don't know that guy anymore.Indeed. But you must always remember that the only thing necessary for evil to triumph is for good men to do nothing...
What's so difficult to understand? Sometimes Amateur voice acting can be fun and endearing. I have no nostalgia for SOTN and I felt the voice acting was fun.
>>12070325Just like 32x or Sega CD lmao
>>12073020What about that?
I only played the Japanese dub which sounded fine.>Watashi-wahhh...
>>12067707I like melodramatic voice acting, if you want realism go outside.
>>12067707youre on the manchild toy board of the outcast website and you really think the people here know anything about performance art? I have seen literally every opinion held simultaneously by the roaches here there is no use presenting reality to them, they will still tell you the grass is not green.
I dont think it's bad I just like it. Never played it until my friend gave me his copy for my birthday in 2019. Sh1 has good voice acting too. Things don't have to be perfect to be enjoyable, you just have to stop being a bitch.
>>12067674>locked behind a shitty remakeNo
>>12067672Only dubfags and localizationfags are defending cringe dubs like this. Although comparing other American dubs that make your ears bleed, this one is barely tolerable.
>>12067708The General moment
>>12076390If you actually knew jap, you would realize the majority of their games voice acting is equally average.
This Castlevania might be one of my most relaxing games. You’re mostly just exploring the castle. Nothing is super challenging if you’ve grinded a bit or found some decent upgrades. You can definitely challenge tougher bosses. In general I mostly just do relaxed play throughs. I wish there were more chill games like this. Whenever I search for recommendations it’s always some shitty farm sim.
>>12073230It's literally fine.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gt43J8aBj2YThis was the quality of voice acting people were okay with in the 90's.
My refined take is that the Richter/Dracula monologue really is conventionally bad if you aren't giving it any irony bonus, but that Alucard is quite good.
>>12073187I might have had a stroke when writing that but I was trying to say if it was a Sega CD or 32X title it would be fine.
>>12067672Some of the lines are silly but I actually like the grandiose voice acting in it.
>>12078057what's bad about it? The lines are fine, the performances are fine. It gives you a bit of insight into each character (Richter is an upstanding man of God, Dracula is a slippery disingenuous asshole with a superior attitude toward humanity)What's the problem? Lay it out for me.
>>12067674Maria is definitely an improvement, but the rest are just different.>>12076390The original translation is a lot closer than you give it credit for (even closer than the PSP/PS4 version in some ways).https://castlevania.fandom.com/wiki/Castlevania:_Symphony_of_the_Night/Script
>>12067672Try switching the region over to Japanese for a change of pace in the voice acting. It's not bad in my opinion and doesn't negatively impact the gameplay.
>>12079274What an odd bundle. I always thought the 360 port of Symphony was XBLA only.
>>12079389Both Contra and Castlevania were the series that remained as top favorites in my NES days going into the SNES and MD, even beyond; it's a perfect pairing. Funny thing, even the Japanese XBLA version of SotN is not only in full Japanese but a completely separate entry so both can exist and be played, as I got both on my accounts. The achievements are separate too, so you can earn them all over again if you so wish.
>>12070325Pigsy is using a different approach from the X-Fusion guy, thought. He's periodically releasing demos.
>>12067672This game has like 6 voiced lines of dialog. Get over it.
>>12073230>youre on the manchild toy board of the outcast websiteSpeak for yourself>you really think the people here know anything about performance art?Absolutely, theater kids and nerds get along like negros and basketball.>I have seen literally every opinion held simultaneously by the roaches here there is no use presenting reality to them, they will still tell you the grass is not green. There's facts and there's opinions, fact is most VA for video games back then was a complete after thought and very rarely had money put into it, SotN is no exception.Opinion is however that in spite of the difficulty and budget, I believe the actors delivered a fine performance with minor hiccups that I believe are superior to most of the video games that were around at that time.
>>12067707Dracula is fine, it’s Richter that sounds ridiculous.
>>12067672Literally just play the undubThe real problem with the game is the level design
>>12080283https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TA4TF0duesY
>>12080335Does undub include the two missing familiars back where they should be, or is that still retrans-only?
>>12067672The only time video game acting is memorable is when it's laughably bad.
