worth getting a ps1 with an ODE (Xstation)? Am i cucking myself out of the experience of grabbing random gems from flea markets and game shops when i can just load up an sd card with everything ever? any issues running fan translations and japanese stuff?
>>
I personally got a lot of use out of mine, though admittedly that's only because the laser in my unit was dead for a long time.
I haven't had any issues playing Japanese games or fan translations at all with it either.
>>
I kept my original console untouched and bought a $20 broken scph-5500 to install xstation. worth it. Everything loads much faster than disc. I would also recommend a psxmemcard gen2.

I am a huge collectorfag, and I still ended up getting on. Even for games that I own, I still play on the Xstation because it significantly cuts down on loading, and no need to switch discs.

Runs great. Get a memcard so you have unlimited memory. I don’t pay for any media whatsoever so dishing out for a few consoles with ODEs over the years is no big deal. Don’t pay for video streaming, don’t pay for gamepass, don’t pay for streaming music, don’t pay for computer programs. Steal.

Or yeah, go to flea markets and shit if thats like your thing but I don’t see the appeal.

I got myself a Xstation last year... sold all my consoles a half year later and emulate everything now... idk

if I had the skills I would install it myself, I hope a solderless version will come in the future

The thing is that I don't want to pay hundreds of dollars for some circuitry either. If I had all the tools to assemble them on my own, maybe. Softmods are actually free, on the other hand.
>>
i have about a dozen of my favorite PS1 games that ive played on PS2 and PS3, and still i just ordered a rasperry pico and everything else necessary to install a Picostation on my old PS1 1001 with a dead laser... i think its worth it just to be able to give life to these old beautifull systems.

i would, fuck buying old games. i have around 50 ps1 games and only play burnt cds with freepsxboot lol.
>>
The issues with running games like fan translations will also exist running on normal hardware. There's no downside here unless you're a dopamine addict plastic coomlector

you have to win the lottery with burned games though, plenty of people struggle with FMV and music skipping
>>
I just burn discs, never had any issues. But then I have old game discs I don't want to invalidate.

Is mstation ever coming?
>>

Well I have three or four working consoles, at least one of them should work.

Well if money is real tight I’d say just emulate. It’s getting better all the time. Most consoles can be emulated so well I can’t tell the difference anymore.
