So this is the power of 16 bits...
Some PC Engine games look like SNES games yet a lot of them look barely any better than NES games
Why did they even bother to launch this thing in the US at all? It had no games. Where were the RPGs? Airport simulators? Strategy games? Etc? It was nothing but lame platformers and other garbage ware.
What -the fuck- was his problem?
>>12068557When are we getting an English translated repro of this
>>12068570If it had released here a year earlier it would have taken the Genesis’ place in history.
>>12068574I know, but they would have had to blitz out the games to a much larger extent than they did. The system has tons of great games, the only problem is they're all in Japanese.
>>12068570>No Strategy GamesThis is all they needed
>>12068576I love the CD sequel. Needed more visual variety thoughbeit
Also the other issue they faced is they were even worse with Sega with the add-ons.
Why would eating meat turn you into this?
>>12068581The US market was a clean slate. IMO they should've jumped straight to Turbo Duo, cost be damned
>>12068557On par with some Neo Geo games desu. Wonder why Neo never saw more Mariolikes

>>12068617Some of these have drastically improved sequels like Neutopia & Military Madness
>>12068601Dion hated platformers
>>12068557So uh...about that fan translation...
>>12068710What about it?
>>120685732027 probablyhttps://edia.co.jp/news/pressrelease/2025/09/03/15888/
>>12068586dickhead wants to bonk more
>>12068601A lot of TG16 games looked like Amiga Eurojank.
>>12068553>>12068572>>12068586>BonkOh man I loved his games as a kid. I think they are quite underrated. I wonder what a return of this franchise would look like if a new one was being made today.
>>12068724...It began work in 2011. I see forum posts saying it's still being worked on.>>12068991Did you play Super Bonk on SNES or the Japan only Super Famicom sequel?https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0-C9hjCn55c
>>12069058I had the Turbo versions of the games. I think I may have had the NES one as well.
I almost beat bonk on GB I think. The bosses basically take all of my lives and the levels take none of then. Seemed a lot easier than the PC engine version overall though
>>12069060There was also a Gamecube remasterhttps://www.youtube.com/shorts/io6d_ql9alw
>>12069071Oh yeah that is right. I always forget about this games existence. I never owned a Gamecube though.
>>12069060>>12069058The SNES and GB games are really good, especially Chō Genji 2 (Super Bonk 2) and Bonk's Revenge (GB)
So this is the power of the PC Engine CD... a 70-80 hours game with CD music, voice acting and animated cutscene in 1992.
I think Sapphire is the most technically impressive game of the 16 bits era
>>12068553Die Hard is a badass game, very fun and worth a playthrough.
>>12068991It would be "Hey look at this retro game lol retro games making a comeback! Look at this update with soulless graphics"They even remade Bonk 20 years ago on gamecube and it looked terrible
>>12068553It's a 8 bits console.>BonkMan, retarded name for a retarded continent.
It fills out the 16 bit era nicelyI'm glad the system existsNot the greatest but an interesting corner of gaming history
>>12068553It's more accurately an 8-bit system. Remember, its name in Japan is the PC-Engine. The whole idea of putting "16" into the name was an American thing.
>>12068553It does look like a 16-bit game though, could pass for an early Mega Drive game. The NES version of Bonk's Adventure looks noticeably worse.
>>12070371Barely
>>12069534>It's more accurately an 8-bit systemSo is the SNES but nobody complains about that. The PC Engine and SNES both have 8-bit CPUs, but the PC Engine is clocked 3 times faster.
Here's the color palette swatches for PC-Engine.
>>12069227>70-80 hours game with CD music, voice acting and animated cutscene in 1992....and no English translation, despite being hyped as one of the best JRPGs.
>>12070784The SNES CPU, the Ricoh 5A22, has a 16-bit accumulator register. So it is a 16-bit CPU.
>>12068557Doesn't count. No US release, no consideration
>>12068586vegan propaganda to demonize meat eaters as violent psychopaths
>>12068570This, same with Neo-Geo. Half-assed launch, practically made people have to play Where In The World Is A Store With My Game System's Games to find any software.
>>12070885The Z80, the CPU in the Sega Master System and Colecovision, has 16-bit registers. Register size determines nothing, it's data bus size that matters. Both the SNES and PC Engine have 8-bit data buses.
>>12070885The Transmeta Crusoe and Efficion are (were) then, by this logic, 256-bit computers.
