Is it known at all what the average development cost was for games in the 4th-6th gen? It seems like they weren't that expensive and biggest cost factor was having to pay for cartridges and memory since once the ps1 took off, good or bad, everyone was dumping their shit on that thing
>>
>>12068781
Those are probably leafbucks
No way KI cost 88 burgerbucks
>>
>>12068791
Those are Canadian prices
>>
>>12068791
I do seem to remember KI having a higher than normal price point though, like sixty burgers. Snes titles generally ran for $40 back then.
>>
>>12068781
nintendo and sega forced you to go through them for cartridge manufacturing so basically you had price fixing going on
>>
>>12068862
Did HuCards cost less comparatively?

OP is a nigger for baiting with the canadian prices again. Pic related is USA.
>>
>>12068791
it is canadian. its a common bait that gets spammed on here and normalfag places constantly.
>>
>>12068875
>>12068879
>again
Not trying to bait, I just used whatever I found on Google. Look at that image. A new game like DKC3 was 70 fucking dollars.
>>
>>12068895
>A new game like DKC3 was 70 fucking dollars.
Yes, a new game with normal pricing for electronic goods had an MSRP significantly lower than the niggerkiked ones in the OP. You also conveniently ignored how the SNES bundles aren't triple-digit and every other game listed in the picture is less than $50USD.
>>
>>12068781
I don't know but I wanna know the answer too OP so hopefully they stop arguing like fags about something unrelated
>>
>>12068781
For a sort of average to cheap games you would have
>programmer
>sound guy
>level editor
>project manager
>usually another person

Gaming wasn't considered as sough after as making business software so maybe say they could make $50k instead of $60 to $80 that someone working on the Lotus spreadsheets could make.
Maybe it would take 8 months.

Supposedly one of the Megaman X games was made in 3 months with 5 people, seems unbelievable.

Factor 5 also said something about the cost and how it increased by a lot after the n64.

>>12068862
except for small number from Acclaim, Accolade, EA, Codemasters and some others with slightly different cartridge shells
>>
>>12068931
Interesting. Thanks for actually trying to answer the question
>>
>>12068913
Yeah, because they were older games and/or player's choice. This had to be 96 when the 64 was out or just about to come out, so it's no wonder the snes is so cheap. Either way, that's not what the thread is about.
>>
>>12068895
>A new game like DKC3 was 70 fucking dollars.
That was the cost of UMK3 on snes when it was released.
>>
>>12068931
>Supposedly one of the Megaman X games was made in 3 months with 5 people, seems unbelievable.
I think that was Mega Man 7. Which is crazy if true because that game has all sorts little easter eggs and secrets too
>>

I want to go back to 1995
>>
This is how much games and other stuff costed in 1995 in Argentina. For the record, Argentina at the time had "convertibility". That means, 1 ARS = 1 USD.
>>
>>12068875
Man imagine playing $70 for the shittiest Donkey Kong Country game lmao

Probably. I remember TG16 games being relatively affordable at the time. Brand new hot shit titles were still like $40-$50 but I don't think I ever saw a HuCard game that cost $70 and I remember getting a couple games for $20.
>>
>>12068781
Yes. PS1 and CD tech opened the doors to almost PC levels of shovelware.

then why the n64 has only about 20 good games out of 296?
>>
>>12069379
Because Nintendo dove headfirst into a pile of bricks while they were designing that shitbox.
>>
>>12069087
Imagine not having to pay for:
>a new smart phone every few years
>mobile phone monthly subscription
>netflix & other movie streaming monthly subscription
>music streaming subscription
>most people didn't pay for home internet access either

So yeah, people had 70 bucks to spend on "the worst Donkey Kong Country" now and then

Fucking Kektendo.

Okay /vr/, I've managed to time travel to the mid 90s, should I buy Super Metroid and Kirby's Avalanche, or go all out and buy Bass Masters Classic '96?
>>
>>12069934
There's always some boogeyman you guys bring up
>>
>>12069952
Definitely Bass Masters. Nintendo games are baby shit.
>>
If you had good 16-bit devs they weren't going to work cheap because barely anyone in the world could even use MS Paint very well.
>>
>>12069732
sure but instead people were spending their money on:
>old ass brick cellphones and cellphone planes (90s onward anyways)
>movie tickets/vhs tapes/vhs rentals
>music tapes and music cds
>porn mags/video tapes
and like 30 million americans had dialup by 1997 (i was one of them) so its not like it was a strange expense
>>
>>12068781
No. It is not known. Given the predictibly ridiculousy broad scope of the question it would be nearly imposible to know and even if you did the number would be meaningless.
>>
>>12068781
Are you making a YT video?

I wonder if sega lord x posts here, that would be pretty cool.

No. OP isn't making a youtube. They/them imagines he will and that it will be epic and get lots of likes and subscribes. Be he will never actually produce anything. Ever.
>>
>>12071483
All he did was ask a simple question. The derangement around /vr/ has gotten so bad

>November 1996
That's when Sony was already gaining ground on them, forcing them to lower prices. How how about showing an ad before Sony began handing their asses to them?
>>
>>12068781

Clearly this is a 1995 advertisement, given that Donkey Kong Country 2 is the newest game. Even for Canadian prices, $80.00 for DKC1 one year later, still seems ridiculous. RPG's were generally the most expensive cartridge games. Illusion of GAIA does come with a strategy guide, but the game is like a 16mb cartridge with battery back-up. I remember seeing Chrono Trigger and Final Fantasy III sold at $95.98 price tags.
>>
>>12071153
Nope. This game would have been saved if you could play as Funky Kong or even Donkey Kong.

I hate getting killed in this game cause the screaming toddler. Fucking A.
>>
>>12070195
Nobody had those brick cellphones. People used to meet up in person much more often.
>>
>>12069116

There it is.

See what I did there kiddo
>>
>>12069732
How about all those magazine subscriptions, mate?
>>
>>12071976
People did have those cell phones. My dad had one and he had a pager, too. You think pagers were free or nonexistent or someshit?
>>
>>12069112
There were a few N64 games that were $70 on release. Everyone likes to conveniently forget about that.
>>
>>12068781
Games took less time to make and had smaller teams but the cost of manufacturing was a lot more back then.

It kinda balanced out.
>>
>>12071976
>Nobody had those brick cellphones
you're indian or mexican
>>
>>12069030
Yeah Mega Man 7 is my favorite MM and it has an insane turn around time and it makes me wonder they never made more. (Well technically they did with Rockman & Forte) I assume just getting ONE good game on the console burned people out.
>>
>>12074087
that's what I paid for Shadows of the Empire in summer 97
