What was the point of adding in the LAW to Deus Ex 1 when the Gep Gun exists? The Gep Gun is basically the LAW except it can be used many times over instead of just once.
>>12069178LAWs are found in levels with giant mechs for players who didn't invest in a means to destroy mechs in their build so it doesn't screw them over. Yes, min-max players know all the best routes and setups, but a newbie player would not know that the Gepgun is the perfect firearm and lockpick in the entire game bar none that fills so many different roles. It's entirely possible to spec into a JC Denton with zero weapons and zero combat skills and beat the game.
>>12069198>but a newbie player would not know that the Gepgun is the perfect firearm and lockpick in the entire game bar none that fills so many different roles.I'm not even talking about min-maxing autistics here. Even if you're a noob casual, once you find the Gep Gun anywhere and realize it's multishot instead of the LAW it quickly becomes pointless. If they really needed a failsafe for noobs then why not just use the GEP Gun anyway?
>>12069178>>12069206>wah varietyBro... for choices to matter, there need to be bad ones, like how swimming is a choice.
It's way more destructive than the GEP, which leads to many funny instances of accidently blowing yourself up.
>>12069198>giant mechs for players who didn't invest in a means to destroy mechs in their buildi did get a GEP in early game. but i used the LAW anyway. a single LAW wasn't enough IIRC. might be easier to throw EMP mines. or just run pass them like most problems in the game.the Autorifle can also shoot grenades.
>>12069178Law deals more damage, it one shots everything while Gep you may need to shoot something twice. If you're worried about inventory space, you can use Laws for immediate problems without lugging the Gep gun all game. This is the theoretical reasoning, in practice there's no reason to not have a Gep gun since it's easily the best weapon in the game, only challenge runs see use of Law.
>>12069178That's not a LAW, that's a Stinger.
>>12069215My name is Josh Sawyer and I'm confused by this concept
>>12069178GEP gun is a massive waste of space the LAW is something you pick up and use almost immediately and while it is big once you use it it's gone. The GEP gun is just too damn big and it's not like you're swimming in ammo for it either. The LAW is just a nice ammo saver for me personally since I can use it in place of other items I may want to hold on to like LAMs or EMPs.
In real life, a single use rocket launcher is a way for a soldier to carry a ranged shaped charge which is easy to use and which you can just ditch after it's expended. Since it only has to stand up firing a single shot ever, it can be built extremely cheap and very lightweight.Reusable launchers have a lot more flexibility in that they can be loaded with all sorts of different things for different uses (instead of the one standard pre-loaded shot in the disposable), but they are a lot more heavy, needing to be built to fire many times.>>12071864This somewhat mirrors that.
>>12071864>GEP gun is a massive waste of space>The GEP gun is just too damn bigThis anon never did a true heavy weapons run in which you carry all three heavies at all times
>>12071779RPGs that don't have as much interaction as Deus Ex probably should be balanced because they don't have much else going on.
>>12073430I'm not an army guy, but best use case scenario for a LAW in vietnam?
>>12073440>carry all three heaviesWhat for? The plasma gun sucks major balls, at least in the vanilla versionIād just use gep gun + flamethrower or gep + sniper rifle and pistol
>>12073479>What for?For fun
the best weapons in the game are the stun baton and pepper spray
>>12073469All sorts of things, really. The M72 LAW, has long been very obsolete for actually using on tanks (which began to be the case even during Vietnam), but it turns out that an easy to use and long ranged explosive has all kinds of other good uses, so it stuck around and was appreciated anyway.Eastern militaries would come to the same conclusions regarding their own counterparts from similar time periods.>any lighter armored vehicle>any unarmored vehicle for that matter>various barricades and lighter fortifications>various kinds of non-combat equipment you want to deprive the enemy of>perhaps natural features serving as a form of coverBasically, anything you might face as a soldier which you would want to blow up from a distance, and which is probably not going to be taken out quickly with rifles and machineguns. These kinds of weapons would generally use a warhead with a shaped explosive charge, where the explosion gets focused in a forward direction for a sort of piercing effect. You would get 'splash damage' to some extent, but they aren't designed for fragmentation (like typical hand grenades), so you're really looking to try to punch a deep hole with them.
>>12073514Neat. I think there were pitched battles in Vietnam so I can just put two and two together on that one.
>>12069178It's a 2x4 item in an inventory that's only 5x6 and there's some quite hard choices to make even without taking it. Personally I was a LAM enjoyer.
