I have a projector with a HDMI port. I want to play some PS1, PS2, and Gamecube games, and some SNES & NES rom hacks when the feeling takes me.What's the best setup that isn't a whole PC, but is strong enough to play PS2 without framerate issues, that justwerks, and is easy to ping romhacks onto without having to deal with a KB&M?
Is it ever just a Steam Deck and official dock?
Test first if you don't have display lag. Mine has tons. Unusable for gaming.
>>12069728Mine's a gaming one, works fine with Switch as long I'm not playing shit which requires twitch reactions.
>>12069726>What's the best setup that isn't a whole PC, but is strong enough to play PS2 without framerate issues, that justwerks, you want something like a PC,probably doesnt fit your description of "just work" but what do you expect,if you want to play PS2 on anything but a PS2 its gonna require messing with stuff so if you arleady have a PS2 just buy something like a retrotink so it works on your projector.
>>12069740that shit is a quarter of a century old. i've fucked girls younger than this stupid console. how do we not have a plug and play solution for this bastard yet?
>>12069748why are you afraid of some settings menu ? just get a ps4/5 and play the PS1/2 games available on it,not much else you can do thats plug and play.
>>12069754You can't be putting desktops in your bedroom. It's not right. Next thing I'll be playing Civ in bed and you have to draw a line somewhere.
>>12069770>You can't be putting desktops in your bedroom.sure but i don't put a projector or TV in my bedroom either.
>>12069781it's worth it for pic related alone honestly
>>12069812im not a teenager anymore anon, anyway both me and my wife read in bed before going to sleep.
>>12069845This isn't a snarky question, but how do you fit in time to play stuff then?I'm 30, and work a job from 10-6. After eating and then gym, that only really leaves the hours from 9:30/10pm on to play something and unwind.
>>12069959i dont play that often nowadays mostly because i choose to do something else most of the time, how much time i COULD spend gaming varies but most days i could play an hour or two between 7pm to 10,i only do some weight lifting/exercise at home for about an hour 3 days a week and i go to sleep at 11:30/wake up at 7.
>>12069959>>12070000also,i cant really have long gaming sessions anymore which does kinda suck but now i pick the games i will play differently, completion time is a big factor now i dont play very long RPG or whatever if they are a huge timesink.my job also has a lot of downtime so i can lurk/post here and look up which games im gonna play/plan for it.before playing a game go to howlongtobeat to have an estimate of completion time, when you can only play an hour or so here and there it feels much better to play a game you will have finished in 2 weeks or whatever than a game that could last months because its too long.
>>12069727How feasible is this?Do you just grab EmuDeck and everything will work?
>>12070067Seems so. With the advantage of taking it about, it's a pretty tempting option ngl
>>12070317I can't help but get the sense that it's too good to be true.I started thinking that I wanted some sort of emulation box, maybe a PC just dedicated to emulation that I set beside my TV, maybe a mister or something, but then I kept circling back to chinkhelds that can be docked to a TV because it seems like they're basically plug-and-play once you get things set up the way you want them, but the more I look at a steam deck, the more it seems like it can do the same thing but more simply and with a better build quality. Then it can also play steam games, and it just seems too perfect, I feel like there's some catch I don't know about, but maybe it's just paranoia.
I have a cheapy projector on my bedside table. I run my RP4Pro through it and project onto the ceiling. It's comfy to lie in bed and play GBA without craning my neck in weird angles.
>>12071189it works anoni grabbed the cheap 64gb one near release, buy a big microsd and you're set for almost all emulator stuff. you can always swap to a 2tb nvme internal down the line if you need or want it.plus the 'eck'ock works exactly as you want just add wireless controller of choice. if you get one the emudeck auto installer thing is great, but skip adding the roms to your steam lib, it slows right down when it has to crunch a few 1000 roms. just add emulation station to the library instead. once set up you'll never need to touch desktop mode again
>>12069726I have chinese minipc thats about 10×10 centimetres and it runs pretty much everything up to PS4 (Bloodborne). Gmktec K8 plus. 500 bucks.
>>12072549That's fucking awesome. Can't afford it right now, but there's no way that's not worth the money.
