Post your favorite cover/promo art
>>12070306Way to start the thread with a terrible quality pic
I prefer red overalls Mario.fuck that King Koopa design tho
>>12070306>>12070368Like 2 or so years ago, everyone was chimping out about high quality scans of the sugi art with original coloring, but nothing ever surfaced.WHERE ARE THEY???I guess it's still not done yet.https://xcancel.com/Lewchube/status/1648076472773492737
>>12070503>>12070503I think this may be just a scanning / printing error like Eternal sailor moons dress colors that appeared totally wrong in the 90s anime because of the scanning process
My current wallpaper
Need a poster of this.
>>12070620that's sick
>>12070306The Sonic Screensavers have always featured some of my favorite Sonic artwork.
>>12070620and now its mine too
>>12071108I can't believe this is retro now...

>>12071217It was great when the money existed to create quality ads like this.
>>12071228
I wish I had high res of all of these
>>12071225
>>12071228>>12071231Man I really wanna draw stuff like this. It's insane how japs don't believe in writing books.
>>12070620Very cool. I think the Nemesis art is kind of weak but anything 8 and 16 bit space shmup is GOATed. Gradius II for the MSX 2 will forever be one of my favorite box arts.
>>12071308Back cover
>>12070306Holy shit how had I never seen this art before. Obviously not counting the Blastoise/Charizard
>>12071314What about this box art?
>>12071317dogshit
>>12071317this game is overrated slop
>>12071318OK OK. How about this one then?
>>12071320better than 1
Everything looks better and more authentic with Japanese characters.
>>12071285What do you mean?
Beautiful space explosion kino
>>12071353Japan has a culture of only training interns that are hired by your corpo master. Most of the game designers never document their findings, or workflow. Same goes for artists, animators, etc The only thing that gets close is stuff like this:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SQxhyHMUJ74
>>12071362I just don't understand what you mean by "writing books". You mean they don't write guides on how to do things? I don't really see the issue with what you've described. I've seen a lot of that in my line of work and smart learners generally find their own methods and workflows. I dunno, not everything has to be a secret passed down from a master.
>>12071362I watched the video and I'll be honest I really dislike this type of education, it feels like something which was used in the educating of all independent film school grads and anyone with a creative writing degree. There's a lot of different ways someone can look and learn, and I'll agree that technical manuals and instruction are only really useful in a utilitarian sense, but I think more has to be done perfunctorily and individually. I think material that gets down to "this is how I did this and you may encounter this so I took this approach" just creates copies, it's something that's better for technical workloads.
>>12071376He has given this talk in many Japanese AAA studios, including Platinum Games.
>>12071384Okay?
>>12070402Thanks for you input, Dobson
>>12070620>My current wallpaper>currentWhy you ever change your wallpaper?Pic related has been mine for nearly 20 years.
>>12070810I know some will say it adds some charm but I wish we had the originals without the dithering
>>12071413>Why you ever change your wallpaper? You discover new things an your tastes develop over time. Nothing wrong with keeping the same wallpaper but you might play a retro game you haven't played before and fall in love with it
>>12071228Adorable.>>12071306Isn't the shading all wrong? You can see the sun reflecting in Samus' visor, yet the shadows spread like it's in her back.

>>12071331Wth did Evangelion rip that off?
This unreleased cover artwork for Mega Man The Wily Wars. Not a favourite, but I love this era of cover artwork and this is an interesting thing that didn't make the cut. There's a few Mega Man cover arts like 6 and X3 that have stupidly high resolution source scans available online.>>12070503Are they not buried somewhere in the Pokemon Asset Archive GDrive or on Lewtwo's site?I recall the dude also spends time replacing main images on Bulbapedia.
>>12071074This unused North American cover artwork of Gunstar Heroes by Greg Winters. They ended up going with something more accurate to the in-game and Japanese designs, but still westified. It's funny seeing Orange riding the Pinky Roader.
>>12071480Official Japanese art by comparison.
>>12071481Something I never figured out until later was that the black spikes around Smash Daisaku's face is actually a beard. From the sprite work I thought it was part of his outfit for years.

Thanks for posting all those little dioramas. They're extremely charming.
Love Majoras Mask art.
>>12071580
>>12071110itβs been 35 years, grandpa.
>>12071669Nowadays games don't even have art because there are no artists anymore. We live in a dark age.
>>12071515>>12071516>>12071518>nothing this cool will ever happen againguess I'll kill myself now
>>12072351Back then people did those things because the digital world was not as it was today. It was like a perfect balance of modern technology and traditional things back then, that's why I love the retro art threads so much. Kids today have less of a reason to be master mode makers, diorama makers and artists I think because of how realistic and engrossing a modern digital plygon whatever depiction can be. Kids either just play video games or go into graphic design.Back then actual artists were more involved in every stage, 2D sprites are all hand drawn. part of it was using your imagination and the amazing art of the time helped you bridge that gap and make it seem more fanciful and real. That is painfully missing today.
>>12072846And the best version I could find of the source Illustration, taken from the Switch digital release page so excellent quality and not a re-scan.
>>12071445>>12071502I played this recently, the way the battle animations flow seamlessly into the world is very impressive. its cute how prolific this diorama clay model work was in advertisements of this era. In the second image why is there arabic along the border of the image? Is that just gibberish?
>>12072887Is this tip of this ships phallus being censored an intentional choice or is it just the byproduct of bad image artifacting
>>12072892Probably because airbrushed I think.
>>12071324OK let's try switching things up a bit then. How about this?
>>12070624I used to always question how the fuck nes got in there. I was well over 20 until i understood that was a reflection
>>12071150Man mewtwo especually lookef alot better in Gen 1. Hes way to human like now
>>12071565Both OoT and Majora's Mask had such amazing artwork.
>>12072852I didnβt realize there was a switch port of Granada. I think I'll look into it, that game is fucking awesome.
>>12072906When I was like 4 years old, I thought Tails was a girl
>>12070402Why King Koopa is a nigger?
>>12073453It's the Genesis version too. Switch actually has very many re-released console games. Thunder Force IV (as "Lightening Force") is on there. TONS of arcade games too, including rare ones like Thunder Cross.
>>12070402Is there anything Miyamoto can't do?
>>12071565>>12073261Way back when I remember liking the OoT artwork though the digitally-colored pieces feel a little garish now. The MM art has aged much better with that nice Mignolaesque style that fits the game very well.
From a magazine print ad for Operation C on Game Boy
Rockman World 3.Shows Rock pretty violently destroying Drill Man, which is unusual for the eastern art in my recollection.
>>12074542Hoooly shit
The art used for the cover of Shadowrun on the Genesis. My introduction to cyberpunk and still my favorite cyberpunk setting.
Golden Sun also has cool art.
>>12074752It's an iconic piece that deserves better than that horrible upscale. Western tabletop RPG licenses had the perk of coming with great artwork they could use as-is for the packaging, and in general the fantasy artist pool was a couple steps above the toy packaging artists that were (usually) hired for console games.
>>12074542This is AI dumbass.
>>12074865nice falseflag sloppa
>>12074863That one by Gerald Brom was pre-existing but he also got a couple high profile gigs doing videogame box art proper, like Doom II or Diablo or picrel
>>12074886Its funny before I knew they used him for.some art i actually used to accuse hexen and heretic of openly copying Dark Suns style
>>12074865Nope.
>>12070368>whines>posts cut off garbage
