It's nice Capcom retracted themselves and gave us a PROPER Mega Man 8 even if they had to put a different title on it for legal reasons.

Was there really a demand for a fifth megaman game on SNES, in like 1998?
Couldn't they have done it on N64 with 3D models?
>>
>>12074254
They could have but I'm glad they didn't
>>
Should have been a 32-bit title, not a 16-bit consolation prize.

Rockman was exclusively a Nintendo game series for YEARS on NES, Gameboy and later SNES, it was not till Mega Man: The Wily Wars (for Genesis) and later MM8 and MMX4 on Saturn/PSX did they break away from their Nintnedo bonds.

This was in a lot of ways Mega Man 8 Lite for SNES. The Super Famicom was still popular in Japan and gamers didn't have a lot to play on the N64 if they stayed the Nintendo only route. And while game releases for N64 were slow from 1995 to 2000. Japanese companies were still pumping out Super Famicom titles till 2000 for that strong install base

Maybe not, but there certainly was a demand for another Rockman for the Super Famicom because the game outsold the PS1 and Saturn Rockman 8 releases individually in Japan, and almost matched both put together.

X4 sold almost (and I'm not making this up) 4x times as much though, and so did X5 until sales started to plunge after that for the following games.

>almost outsold Rockman 8 in both consoles
>... but only if you count the sales exclusively in Japan
>... and we also pretend Saturn mattered so it looks like an impressive 2 vs 1, when in truth Saturn was laughably irrelevant

This game doesn't get enough credit for being an insane technical showpiece. It's also a great game in general.
>>
>>12074304
Lol I can't argue with that logic. Literally.
>>
I love the game but if you go for 100% some CDs are in insanely sadistic locations. like the one in the pyramid level where the little drill guys destroy the ground, or the one in that place full of enemies flying across the screen.

My favorite thing is an interview in a Sega Saturn magazine with some Capcom staff about Megaman X4 and the interview ends with "anything you want to tell our readers" and one of them says "even if it's on the Playstation, you should check out Breath of Fire 3!"

MM8 is so much better it's laughable. Deluded SNES drones once again trying desperately to find anything worthwhile in the heap of shit that constitutes the SNES library.
>>
>>12074356
8 sucks my dude. It's barely even a Mega Man game between all the shitty gimmick sections.
>>
>>12074346
I had 98% of the CDs.

And then I lost my savefile.

Now you'll never know if Dr Light is douchie.

Those "shitty gimmick sections" lend some well needed variety which makes the game more interesting and better. R&F, on the other hand, has a lot of sections with barely any enemies, empty hallways, often only one or two enemies on the screen at a time, significant slowdowns and input lags. It plays like the typical shoddy attempt to do an action game on the SNES, which was just not powerful enough to handle action games thanks the 2.68 mhz 8-bit processor which was already pathetically dated in 1991.
>>
>>12074376
Nobody needs "variety" if it completely disregards the core MM gameplay for something retarded and half assed. Those pathetic attempts at SHMUP that play themselves? The Simon Says snowboarding? The level that's a giant maze with no enemies? The level that's just a bunch of puzzles for 5 year olds? It was all a complete failure that's never been seen in another MM game since. Not that even what sticks closer to the classic formula is much better, since it has zero challenge, horrid level design and checkpoints every other room.
>>
>>12074376
Since literally all those "cons" you listed are traits present in MM1-7 gameplay and level design (except input lag which you straight out made up for good measure), I guess what ultimately made MM8 "more interesting and better" for you was the babyfied difficulty level lmao

Never reply to auster. Everytime you see some fag posting about mhz and lie about it's bits, you know it's him.

Mega Man & Bass & Knuckles now, with Bacon!

X8 had tons of shitty gimmick levels as a holdout from X7, and its by far the thing people dislike most about it. If every level was a straightforward normal stage it would be more than mediocre, and I actually like X8. They're fine when they're only like 1 stage and maybe 1 wily section. For all its faults, that was one of the things 5 did very well, limiting
>gimmick stages
and focusing more on
>stage gimmicks
>>
Rockman and Forte refers to itself as RM8.5 in its own code. It's literally a sequel.
