>try to softmod PS2
>FMBC card
>slim so can't HDD
>77000 series so USB port is still fast enough
>put .iso files in the DVD path
>takes an hour because the bin converter I was using had a bug that made it close if I didn't convert backwards
>finally put the drive in the console
>OPL refuses to respond to anything but the start button
>try all three versions on this card
>currently stuck forever on this screen
>can't even boot the games
I've spent more raw time fighting emulators and modded consoles to make them work than playing games on them. This is why I have original hardware and games
>>
>>12076947
Update your OPL and enable BDM devices.
>>
use retrolauncher
>>
>>12076956
Yeah let me spend the price of the games I wanted to play on a USB memory card reader. I'm using PCSX2 fuck it
>>
>>12076962
?
just drag and drop file.
>>
>>12076964
Onto a PS2 memory card?
>>
>>12076947
I fucking gave up and just bought a ps2 fully modded with all games online. I lost my temper and hours of time because im a brainlet
>>
>>12076968
Through ULaunchELF or whatever variant came with it.
>>
>>12076968
>load file onto thumb drive
>plug into USB port
>ulaunchelf
>copy file from drive to memory card
Piss easy, you can use it for transferring saves as well.
>>
>>12076947
>get a nanopi neo
>install dietpi (2gb micro sd minimum required)
>run this https://github.com/Sakitoshi/udpbd-server_dietpi
>plug usb drive with games
>plug ethernet cable between nanopi and ps2
>run any neutrino frontend
>??
>profit
nice and easy.
>>
>>12076947
>slim
just network load anon
>>
>>12076956
Alright it makes sense now, thanks. It didn't cross my mind that it came with a file browser for some reason
>>
>>12076947
I had issues with OPL until I just found a version that was older and it worked fine for me first try. Just go back a few years at a time until it works. OPL is bullshit but it's worth it. And just download your games in ISO format don't bother with bin/cue. I don't blame you for using pcsx2 but you've got this.

The newest version is being gay. It just boots straight to this
>>
>>12077038
if he can't even get a USB setup to work then figuring out SMB or the other options is going to take several more hours too. It was confusing to me and didn't work following any guides. I just got lucky and it finally worked with a combination of settings where I didn't know what changed.
>>
>>12077319
Go to your settings, make sure USB/BDM devices are on, and then save changes.
>>
>>12077324
I understand how an ethernet cable works, I just really don't wanna buy more components
>>
>>12077319
this literally happened to me anon. like a year ago. Just use an older version. I don't remember which I used but it was an older UI and just werked. I think it was 0.9.1. I'm sure it's missing newer things and compatibility compared to the newer versions but I just couldn't get them to show my games.

I'm sure since it's obvious but you did press the games list button right
>>
>>12077337
you have to go through the bullshit of setting up SMB server or other bullshit that adds a lot of steps to things. It's finnicky getting the settings right on both ends
>>
>>12077339
I couldn't because I'm retarded and didn't enable USB devices. I'm really bad for missing one step in a sequence and repeatedly glossing over it
>>
>>12077356
Nice. If USB doesn't work out for all the games you want to play try SMB. It's pretty good
>>
>>12076947
Use open tuna and Ethernet cable
>>
>>12077358
It's recognizing the USB drive but not displaying my games. I'm gonna try this older version. If I spent the time I just did fighting this at work, I'd have made enough money to buy every Legacy of Kain game, which is what I'm trying to play

Are your games in the /DVD folder in .iso format?
>>
>>12077373
Yes, save one I had to fragment because I was advised it only worked from the root for some reason. I'm trying 0.9.1 and still nothing
>>
>>12077398
>I'm trying 0.9.1 and still nothing
Yeah that's a 12 year old version, not sure why you're doing that. The latest OPNPS2LD.ELF is from August 17, 2025
https://github.com/ps2homebrew/Open-PS2-Loader/releases/tag/latest
All you need to do is have your USB drive formatted as exfat, have a folder called DVD in the root, and game iso's in the DVD folder.

After you run OPL, make sure BDM devices are set to auto start, save your settings and games will appear under the BDM devices menu.
>>
>>12077434
>exfat
I swear to God if this thing being FAT32 was holding me up I'm killing myself
>>
>>12077436
Old versions of OPL don't read exfat, but anything released in the past few years does. Exfat will also save you from having to split your files like you're still rocking toxicOS or something.
>>
>>12077434
I told him to use an old version because it worked for me when I had issues. I think it's more like 9 years old. Old works for me and I couldn't get the newer version to work no idea what I was doing wrong. I had up to date FMB and everything but something about getting the games list was mystifying. Still not sure why older worked
>>
>>12077440
I put the reformatted USB into the system and now it won't boot past the FMCB splash unless I remove it
>>
>>12076947
Bro, get yourself a Raspberry Pi 3B+ and install psx-pi-smbshare

https://github.com/toolboc/psx-pi-smbshare

That and use this video as a guide:
https://youtu.be/DVCFbJCPtO8?si=cEnW3SHYpvy0Wt8M

If you're more technical inclined, you could also do this via a samba share too with Windows, Mac or Linux.

However the easier just works idea is a Pi with the software above correctly connected to the Slim PS2 via an Ethernet cable.

Worked decently for me. I have an external USB HDD connected to the Pi 3B+ and this has been my setup for over 2 to 3 years now.

I also have backed up this hard drive as a separate image via the 'dd' command in case it fucks up for some reason.
>>
>>12076947
Retard, do not use the USB port. That is not even a fast enough USB port for most FMV based cutscene games. You are going to have an awful time with that.

Do what this autistic moron did:
>>12077535
>>
>>12077542
No. I'm not buying anything else. I'm done wasting my time. I've spent 7 hours on this
>>
>>12077573
Then you're genuinely retarded

I was about to say give up completely but I'll give you just one more thing. Stop for a week and pick it back up with my idea.

I guarantee you that you didn't do your research. I say this because everyone online will say how shitty the Slim PS2 is because of lack of HDD and then be dumb as fuck to not realize that projects exist to do the same effort via the Ethernet port.

Is it hard? Sure, a little bit, but it still lets you use the PS2, and you might learn just a little more about networking as a result.

But yeah if you don't want the keys to the Ferrari, then have fun driving that piece of shit Kia.
>>
>>12077535
>wasting an entire rpi3 on this
>tito
OP do not do that.
what >>12077029 is superior and cheaper.
use https://github.com/pcm720/nhddl as your neutrino frontend and you'll be fine.
it works with usb too and with less hassle than opl.
>>
>>12077582
>>12077542
>>12077535
Don't spoonfeed OP. He's a dumb Zoomer retard that doesn't appreciate good advice. There is no hope for people like this.
>>
>>12077535
UDPBD has deprecated SMB on PS2.
>>
>>12077584
Those off-shoot Pi's are a complete crapshoot with software compatibility and their peripherals.

You dumb shithead. There's a reason no one buys those OrangePi devices or any other Pi off shoot. They're hell on earth to figure out if shit goes wrong and the money you are trying to save is better off using a more widely used platform.

Begone Chink shill.

I am saving OP from the Chinamen today, fml.
>>
>>12077594
Then use an older version, or use a setup with RetroNAS instead.
>>
>>12077595
no, you are just retarded.
nano pi has good reputation and their hardware is great. diet pi supports several nano pi boards without issue.
but, of course, all you know is what youtube says.
you don't even know that everyone is moving towards udpbd.
>>
>>12076947
skill issue
>>
>>12077596
I'm saying that UDPBD has made SMB as a technology outdated & irrelevant on PS2. UDPBD is faster than SMB, and works.
>>
>>12077612
In other words, "deprecated" in that sentence is a transitive verb.
>>
>>12077612
How about you suck my dick and call it retro instead of using an automasturbator you faggot bitch ass fuck?

Nah but for real, I kneel you nigga bitch, I had no idea this existed. I am too lazy to change my setup so fuck that, but neat in the long run
>>
>>12077515
>now it won't boot past the FMCB splash unless I remove it
I've only seen this with fake memory cards. Sorry anon, last thing I can think of is checking the format on your USB, making sure it's MBR and not GPT or installing FMCB 1.966 on an OEM memory card.
>>
>>12077029
or just use pcsx2
>>
>>12077710
I don't know how to output 240p composite to my CRT via PCSX2.
>>
>>12077719
You would have to use CRTEmudriver since I know you're a dumb Windows user that doesn't know jack shit about converting to composite.

You would need a VGA capable video card along with a corresponding VGA to composite cable.
>>
>>12077719
You won’t be able to do decent composite from the PC
>>
can't you just get one of these + a sd A2 card?
>>
>>12077736
>CRTEmudriver since I know you're a dumb Windows user
Fedora, actually.
>>
>>12076947
Just get memcard pro 2 and grim doomers exfat opl version, bro. No need to convert files. Just drag and drop the isos and you're fine
>>
>>12078003
I just use WinHiip
Works perfectly fine for me, don’t really need a fork version
>>
>not knowing how to set up SMB
it's one fucking command and entering the computer's IP address in OPL settings
come on, you're not even trying
>>
Why is the PS2 hacking scene so poorly organized? Basically every other console has a one-stop guide website that's actually kept up to date and accurate meanwhile for PS2 you have to browse south american forums trying to figure out which software isn't 10 years out of date.
>>
>>12078267
Psx place?
>>
>>12076984
same way I did it, worked fine for me other than the movies stutter, play slow

I gave up and went back to pc gaming because not gonna have this stuff laying all over the place making a mess

Im surprised how easy it is to do though. the genesis emulator didnt work for me though and a few other emulators for it sucked too. the nes/snes works good on this and most games work too, it even has a nice built in menu to enter codes and boot the games with the codes. too bad it didnt exist in 2002 when I actually played this stuff longer than an hour

It's almost like softmods are gay and you should have just bought a chip lmao.
Soft modders are genuinely the biggest faggots, the niggas who make them are cool but god damn the consoomers of them are the dumbest apes in the retro scene.
As for
>This is why I have original hardware and games
You are admitting you are too much of a dumb fuck to learn how to do shit properly, I'd tell you to kill yourself but your shit for brains ass would find a way to fuck that up too.
For your own sake get off the internet and never come back, maybe you can read a book or two in that time and gain enough knowledge to know how to do basic tasks you retarded fuck.
>>
>>12078267
ego.
everyone wants to be the leader of their own project instead of cooperating towards a common goal.
there are some of them that do cooperate, like neutrino.
>>
>>12076962
If you didn’t understand him, I’m going to take a wild guess that you need to do more reading on what you’re trying to accomplish.
