Underworld Ascendant but it's not retro

Ultima V is the peak of the series. Ultima IV/V/VI are the best trilogy.

UA is a barely working piece of shit.

It defined what a normal RPG plays like. You had your top-down, your 3D dungeons, later on real time battle.

Ultima I came out the same year as Wizardry, both had first-person wireframe 3D dungeons, Ultima had an overhead view too on the overworld and in towns etc. You have hit points and spells and etc. Different weapons. Ultima I is goofy and funny though, you have a space shuttle and also travel through time. It's like if Time Bandits was a video game. Same with Ultima II. Only by Ultima III does it feel like Ultima, before it could be almost any generic RPG. IV sets the tone for the rest of the series, V was very advanced for its day. VI too. VII was way way more advanced than anything going in its day, still one of the greatest games ever made. VIII was a steep drop off with no party, more limited interaction and activities, lots of JUMPING lol. IX would have made up for it but it was released literally half finished, there is a fan patch that somewhat fixes this but it's still goofy. Very fun and forward looking engine and gameplay despite all the terrible lore errors and somewhat iffy conformance to the actual world of Ultima.

Underworld is also amazing, if you install the mouse look patch it becomes much more comfortable to play.

Was Ultima IX the first game to use lip-sync for characters? I don't remember any prior title which synced a character's lip animation to the voiced dialog.

I'm not sure, that's a good question actually. I played it when it was new, I had a 3DFX card luckily, it was buggy on 3DFX for a month or two before the first big patch, but the D3D / OpenGL versions were apparently a mess for like six months.

Half-Life?

It was the first fully 3d game with a continuous world and dynamic time of day lighting.

Get good or find another series, not everything has to be for everyone.

>your old games are unplayable
>names one of the most unplayable dogshit modern indie games he could think of

Mind boggling response.
