Normally id post this in the doom thread but I wanted to make a post about this game. Playing strife with gzdoom and you know what. This game is amazing. Its got some shooting some rpg elements talking and a story. Its really really good. Worth playing. Get the wads and fire up gz doom vr bros
>>
I still have the box from when I bought it for $5 from a clearance bin in the 90s OP
>>
I hate the sewer level so much
>>
>>12079185
My uncle got me this for my birthday one year and shot first guy I saw and was bum rushed by guards. Found out then that this was very different from Doom and loved it since
>>
>>1207922
legit just beat the sewer level. it was annoying and kind of confusing but okay not great tho either. now im assaulting the programmer.

>>12079221
hell yeah dude does the disk still work and do you have the books and stuff too?

>>12079240
yeah just fired it up the other day. im really enjoying its different
>>
>>12079185
How is using gzdoom different from getting the veteran edition?
>>
>>12079293
its free? idk i didnt know the veteran edition existed until i played. the veteran edition is probably worth buying cause it looks nice desu.

but yeah i guess gz doom is free and veteran edition is 2 dollars
>>
>>12079301
You can get the vanilla game legally for free like with Shadow Warrior?
>>
>>12079312
its a 29 year old game of course its free wdym?
>>

i remember first playing the demo of this when i was like 10 and the sound of the guards used to scare me to shit.

worth playing on the veteran edition when it goes on sale.
>>
>>12079185
The Doom thread is just a home for bots and literally obsessed aspergers.
>>
>>12079408
If only every thread was filled with nothing but guys who actually cared about games and the occasional israeli advertising script instead of militantly retarded 26 year olds with malicious intentions. I could live with that.
>>
>>12079408
>>12079432
i like the doom thread. always a good place to find new wads and shit going down. probabbly the same guys posting for years
>>
>>12079226
Same. Dropped it during that awful sewer level. Which is a shame because I really enjoyed it until then.
>>
>>12079408
That's every general on every board. I don't know how people can tolerate spending time there.
>>
>>12079249
>the programmer.

I liked that part. Cool stuff starts happening
>>

My first visit to /vg/ was an awakening. "People really choose to live like this?" I mean I knew Twitch chat existed and was inexplicably popular even though it's absolute garbage, but this was my first time ever actually trying to participate in a community with that flavor instead of merely witnessing it secondhand through YouTube.

Strife is cool. I remember seeing some magazine review back in the day that said it was good but a bit drab, lacking a "Doomy dazzle". Yeah nobody likes sewer levels, I think there are a couple of them? And even the non-sewer levels occasionally feel like sewers. The setting has a great feeling to it though. And I love the hub-type maps, like the starting city area. Oh and the fire physics. I think I've gone through the game twice? Maybe I'll do it again sometime.

Strife has some problems, but I appreciate its ambition for the time, and I LOVE its art direction and quality of its assets.

The sprites and textures in Strife are for the most part extremely clean, high qualiy, and consistent, someone really sat down and painted those character animations from (mostly) goddamn scratch, that's hard and tedious work, and they did an amazing job.

>>12079226
I generally find sewer levels to be meme'd on a bit much, but Strife's sewer levels do actually earn the complaint, they're genuinely a slog. There's only two of them in the game, and I would personally not hold it against you if you used the console to give yourself more radsuits just to muscle through the bad parts of the game.

>>12079293
Doesn't have some of the tacked on effects which don't look particularly good (IMO). Also has some mod support, even if Strife has a very tiny modding scene.

No bots there, only autism.

There's newer people coming in at times.

Yes the disc still works and all of my PC game cds from the 90s still work since I stored them in a box inside the jewel case. The only game from the 90s/early 2000s I have where the CD doesn't work is Jedi Knight 2 because I lent it to someone who scratched the fuck out of the disc.
>>
>>12079185
Played through it last year. Incredibly janky, with bad weapons and annoying enemies. Though I still had to appreciate what they were able to do with the original Doom engine. I guess you could consider it an "im-sim" of sorts.

>with bad weapons
This is a poorly documented part of the game. When you use those health upgrades, it also improves weapon handling.
>>
>>12079432
>retarded 26 year olds with malicious intentions.
I'll have you know I turned 27 this year, get your facts straight.
>>
>>12080247
Sort of.

>Stamina starts at zero and has a maximum value of 100, giving the player a maximum health of 200%. The additional health makes using the Sigil more viable, especially as it consumes more health with each Sigil piece.

>The stamina stat also increases the damage inflicted by the punch dagger, allowing it to kill stronger enemies with fewer hits - with enough stamina it becomes possible to gib acolytes with a single blow. This makes the punch dagger a more useful weapon as the game progresses, especially in situations where stealth is preferable to force.

>In the early stages of Strife, stamina upgrades are received from Gerard in exchange for stamina implant tokens received from Macil; later in the game, stamina upgrades are given to the player immediately on completing certain objectives, saving them the trouble of returning to The Front. Each upgrade increases the stamina stat by 10, thus increasing the player's maximum health by 10%

>The accuracy stat is an attribute in Strife that affects the accuracy of all weapons excluding the Sigil. Accuracy starts at zero and can increase to a maximum of 100.

>Rapid-fire weapons such as the assault rifle and flamethrower are most affected by this stat, as continuous fire will cause them to drift off target; as the accuracy stat increases the range that shots can drift will be reduced, making shots more likely to hit their target. Improvements to accuracy can be seen when using the targeter, which displays two yellow bars that represent the range that shots can drift - as the accuracy stat increases, these bars are drawn closer together.

>In the early stages of Strife, the accuracy stat can be improved by giving accuracy upgrade vouchers to Feris, which are awarded by Macil for completing his assignments. Later on, the player will receive accuracy upgrades automatically when they complete certain objectives, saving them the trouble of returning to The Front.
>>
>>12079846
Hell yeah man that's amazing
>>
>>12080247
Slightly. Even with full upgrades the weapons would still recoil as if they were drunk.
>>
>>12079185
there should be more games in the medieval tech post apocalypse genre.
>>
>>12080870
Agree.

What do you even call this style? Medievalpunk?
