>>12079564No complaints for any category. I think SNES should have had the better Beat em Up library in theory but it is just too hampered by the low amount of enemies they can put on screen. Genesis beat em ups have like 5, 6, 7 enemies on screen, with SNES it is always 3, maybe 4. If the SNES could've squeezed a couple more enemies on screen for each game I'd have given it the win in that category.

Since you're also including Soliel and Thor on the Mega Drive side, we could also count Legend of Xanadu 1 and 2 on the PC Engine, and Popful Mail. But Mega Drive also has Lunar, Lunar 2, Vay, Rent A Hero, and it's own version of Popful Mail which is a different game.Both have really stellar JRPG libraries, with both having some of the best in the genre for the era. SNES has Mega Drive and PC Engine beat for quantity, but I would give the edge to both Mega Drive and PC Engine for better quality overall.

Jrpgs: snes > every thing elseeverything else: sega mdI genuinely love the PCE but it feels like last generation technology. It has a “famicom plus” sort of vibe.The snes hardware sucks. The mode 7 scaling is cool as fuck and it makes most scaling games play better on snes. But the thing just struggles to maintain full speed when literally anything happens on screen. It also has 1 additional frame of input delay not present on pce or md. The smaller screen resolution makes platformers and action games more frustrating with the zoomed in screenThe sega generally does action and platforming games way better. The konami games on sega absolutely smoke their snes counter parts. People say the snes ports of street fighter are better but that’s not possible the genesis and capcom arcade boards use the same hardware. the mega drive ports of those games are much closer in experience to the arcade. The higher resolution makes games like ewj 1 and 2 better on sega. The sega could use a better color palette tho. The genesis also has better music which really enhances the games. Dithered graphics have grown on me but it’s objectively not better than the snes’s expansive color palette.I play all 3 consoles almost everyday as i’ve been in a 16 bit phase for the last 14 months. Honestly most games are not great beyond nostalgia. I find that the MD has aged the best in respects to how much we value performance in the modern age.I think super metroid is the stand out game for the snes. Theres just simply no equivalent experience on the genesis. (I dont count mwiv). Cave story got ported to genesis so it is capable of a large sprawling adventure like super metroid but its not a thing any of the sega devs ever tried to emulate.

I find that the MD has aged the best in respects to how much we value performance in the modern age.Even those values differ from person to person. In my case, as long as there are no frames skipped, I don't mind slowdown. As a kid, I didn't even really notice it, not in a nitpicky way, anyway. For me, it felt more like slow motion, giving a cinematic experience to the game when there was a lot of action on screen.
