I unironically liked Sprigg, especially when she could change into Flea
Serge/Lynx, Glenn, Fargo or Kid (to steal items). I would use Harle during the times you couldn't do a setup like this.
Because I stuck with Serge forever and Fargo was mandatory to get the good shit off bosses, the only character left was Janice.

Making Serge mandatory was a mistake. He can be in the party for purposes of the story, but he doesn't need to be in the actual battle team.

Most characters don't even have unique story dialogue, they just have some algorithm generated speech tics for generic lines.

The game is that easy.Individually, it mostly comes down to colors.Most character will fall into their color archetype minus specific ones like glenn, fargo, grobyc,etc... which are individual powerhouses.White:Mostly trash because of availability and barely above average grids, they come way too late to be useful. Serge and starky are pretty much the only ones worth it. Riddel is only useful if you are running the romhack.Black:Worst element in the game because of availability of most and having to deal with multiple side quests just to get mediocre characters(mojo, skelly). Add to his one of the worst grids in the game, yeah, Grobyc is the only one worth it. Harle leaves so it doesn't matter.RED:Meant to be powerhouses because of how powerful psychical damage is, made extremely mediocre because of way too low stats of strength. They will outclass the majority in pure damage but never in a large enough way to matter.Blue:Mixed bag. Designers wanted the color to be healers and magic guys but the tech and stats never fit this fully. Excellent grids.Green:Mix of decent physicals and magic users.The grids are decent and glenn is a powerhouse.Yellow:Take the red characters and give them stats to reflect their psychical power. Pure upgrade over reds mostly.The game is too easy to really force you to use every character strength and weakness.And if the game was hard most of these characters would be useless because of how the game handles max stats and the general imbalance eof stats among characters.The hard romhack pretty much forces you to play with the same characters.
