You have beaten it, haven't you?
>>
>>12079928
I simply haven't the time
>scrolls the internet for another 2-3 hours before bed
>>
Yeah like 30 years ago, before hearing about the internet.
>>
>>12079928
Please don't post obscure old games without telling us the name
>>
>>12079928
only the easy all stars version
dont care enough
mario 1 is the perfect challenge for me
>>
At the end of each session playing on my Famicom, I would always boot this game up and do one attempt warpless and without continues to see how far I could get. As time went on, I would gradually make it farther and farther, until I plateaued with my PB at 5-4 for several weeks. Eventually I got an attempt past 5-4 and made it to 7-3 before game overing. I remembered from my initial full playthrough that World 8 was a bitch, and I didn't want another 5-4 scenario, so I decided to hunker down and spend a few hours practicing the last few levels until I could no-miss them consistently. After that I went and got the warpless, no infinite 1-up, 1CC first try. I've since beaten the game warpless deathless. At one point I tried learning the speedrun but I was kind of getting bored of the game by this point so that kinda fizzled out.

I don't want to say this game is better than SMB1, but I think its pretty close. I think a lot of people's problem with this game is they want to play it once and move on, when its really designed to be played like an arcade game where you play it incrementally and master it over time. Just look at the unlock criteria for Worlds A-D. You're suppose to play it over and over again, not just credit feed it (metaphorically) once and move on.

As an aside, this is an unpopular opinion but I actually really like the Worlds A-D unlock condition. Sure, its inconvenient if all you care about is seeing all the levels. But I'd like to imagine in the 80s some Japanese kid really liked this game and played Worlds 1-9 to death, only to one day accidentally start World A without knowing it existed and have the mind fuck experience of having new levels in their favorite game appear out of nowhere. Something like that is way more valuable than QoL or whatever. Games need to go back to having crazy secrets.

Many times as a kid, with heavy use of warp zones and limited or no use of continues (I don't remember about that). Once as an adult without warp zones or continues.

OH GOD I'm sorry I only glanced at the thumbnail and well you know how it goes. There's that other thread with the douche talking about having finally emulated SMB and hated it or whatever and I had that on my mind. Yeah I only did the Lost Levels version. It was a lot of fun though
>>
I haven't even beaten SMB1, dude
>>
>>12079928
Yep. At least I beat it on Snes Allstars
>>
>>12079941
>only the easy all stars version

these

I've beaten Lost Levels plenty of times, even as a kid. It's a good challenge after you get bored of SMB1. The original FDS version is fucking masochistic though, I bought it on Wii and never got anywhere on it.

Reminder that you did not beat the game
>>
>>12079928
Nope. It was one of only a few NES games I had but I don't think I ever got even half way through. I have always found Mario incredibly boring so I'd put it in every few weeks or so, play till I died a couple times and then do something else.
>>
>>12080164
same, Mario 1 was the game I gave a few spins during sunday church because the pastor's son would bring his nes to the side room where the bored kids hung out while the pastor spoke his shit.
Even back then, I felt like the game was on some kind of procedurally generated "who gives a fuck" level past the first world, never cared to put the time into actually beating it ever since.
I don't even dislike Mario, just think Mario games even up until SMW had weak level design.
>>
>>12079928
No, I would say most people have not, I really don't care to play the JP version of the game the goofy ass US remake was fine for me.
>>
Assuming the conditions are:
>FDS original
>No warps
>No continues
>No 1-1 lives trick
Then no.

I mean, the simpler explanation is that he didn't see the 2 or read the image name. We're getting old here, vision going, minds not as sharp. :|
>>
Without continuing I could only made it as far as 6-4 I believe.
>>
>>12080553
It was available via All Stars over 30 years ago.

Retard.

yes I did. it's not a cakewalk but easier than the large majority of games that have limited continues. only thing I'll say is that I wish it had a few more options to get 1up shrooms. you either figure out the secret in a level and get one or you don't, given the game has no continues and only 3 starting lives it could have used a few more medium difficulty challenge 1ups out in the open vs just the secrets being it. it feels kind of barren if you don't happen to know the trick for a level.

>>12079928
How are people playing the original NES jpn version? I've been trying to find the ROM everywhere but can't find it. Apprently All-Stars is easy mode so I have no interest.
>>
>>12080719
>All-Stars version
You didn't beat it.

I've never even played it

Doesn’t count.

So was the internet.

Same
>>
I've 24 star'd the FDS version. Good game.
>>
>>12079928
no man those jumps get rly fucking gnarly
>>
I beat the original version, but only after beating it on SMB Deluxe for the GBC.
>>
>>12080903
>built in infinite lives cheat
No.
>>
>>12079928
Nope, played the lost levels with a buddy in college for a month and only got to world 7
>>
>>12080827
Its a Famicom Disk System game, so its in the FDS ROM set and not the NES one.
>>
>>12081167
Maybe don't be a stupid nerd bitch faggot and spoil yourself with obscure shit from YouTubers then? Hmmmmm...............eat shit nigger
>>
>>12080978
I was 4 when I got All Stars. Didn't hear about the Internet til 6 or 7. I have no idea how but wasn't kidding about it.
>>
>>12080827
>All-Stars is easy mode

Is it? Obviously there's the save system, that's a big deal yeah. But it's still pretty much the same game I think? Aside from the famous brick-breaking bug. Seems kinda silly to have NO interest in it, although yeah it'd be just as silly to settle for it when you can get either version easily. Or well I can - seems like you aren't really skilled with Google?
>>
>>12079928
yes
>>
>>12081167
For those who can't pull off the 1-1 lives trick.
>>
>>12081980
In the FDS version, continues take you back to the start of the current world, so you have to beat every world within three lives. In the All-Stars version, continues take you back to the start of the level, so you can die as much as you want without consequence. It seems like a minor change, but in some of the harder worlds like 7, 8, and D, its the difference between the world taking 15 minutes instead of 2 hours.
>>
>>12079928
Sure, Wart was pretty easy.
>>
Yeah, one time wapless, 7 times with warps and then worlds A-D. It was honestly not an enjoyable experience but it was satisfying. It's definitely harder than most 'NES hard' games
>>
>>12081779
You should've just said you beat it when you were 5 then, that's more impressive than "before you heard of the internet".
