Finally emulated the original SMB. Plays fine, no issues to report. But seriously, WTF is with the GOAT status? The level design is basic AF now and the controls feel janky. Is it just nostalgia or is a 1985 NES game actually still good? I mean, maybe that's the real achievement?

Same thing happened to the simpsons, it used to be highly subversive and now it isn't simply because the media landscape it was established in no longer exists, new media started reacting to the simpsons much like how the simpsons was reacting to the family sitcoms of its time.Similarly, SMB is an expertly crafted game and as a result has maintained its entertainment value but modern players are so exposed to its design tropes that it doesn't grab them in the same way as it grabbed past audiences. It's not the fault of the game or the player, but rather the popularity of SMB's design.
