If you're the kind of player who comes back crying about how Rhone is bullshit in Dragon Quest 2, this game is not for you. In this game, you're in "Rhone" starting from the mid game, and it never stops. The game is just (You) and a God companion of your choosing. It's just a succession of encounters such as "Poison your God companion before you get a turn (P.S: you can't heal him unless it's that one God who sucks at everything else; only way to heal is to go back to town, then slowly go back to heaven to remove your God and recruit you again; or to use a "leaf of the world tree" type item); or "puts your party to sleep (P.S: that can last 10 turns)", or "A group of 3 enemies that may deal 90 dmg each on one turn (P.S: you only have 110 HP)". I also personally really like the "You usually deal around 90 damage but sometimes you only deal 5-10 for no reason; and yeah it can happen several times in a row") etc etc Even with the best preparation, the grinding to spare, and the best decisions in combat, you need luck on your side and you're going to die, again, and again, and again. The balancing is insane. I also really liked how once you get the boat, the game tells you about several towns to go to, including a later area that will rape you, but forgets to mention the next logical town to go to, which is actually harder to find as well. Heh, funny, they actually copied DQ3 on that one.
>>12080337I'm probably not gonna play the GB spinoffs, but I beat Herakles no Eikou IV recently and it was great. It even has a post game.
>>12080409I'm playing old RPGs at the minute, playing all of the Knight Gundam RPGs and wanting to start FF2 then 3. I'm more interested in playing the original Heracles no Eikou over the original Dragon Quest, it just seems to have a bit more character.
>>12080409I've played 2,3 and 4. 4 was the best one indeed though it probably was a bit too easy (yeah I know, when I'm not complaining that it's too hard I complain that it's too easy)... I don't remember if I went through the post game though, what was it about?
This fucking group of enemies>they ALWAYS act first and ALWAYS cast a sleep spell if you're not asleep which ALWAYS works despite wearing equipment that I think helps against spells>running away also ALWAYS fails against themThe other enemies in this area are more than manageable but meeting these guys is a sure death sentence and I tried MANY times. At this point I'll just go elsewhere on the world map and come back later though I'm not even sure that will helpThis fucking game I swear
So I got a glitch that softlock my game. Pic related, my KEY items inventory is filled with "Traveller Staff", a shitty weapon. If I pick up the necessary key items it actually asks me if I want to drop/replace another key item but that doesn't actually work. Attempting to hex edit my .sav file also doesn't work as editing any single byte makes the game not recognize the save anymore.Fuck. This. Game. The balancing in the end game consists in exploits anyway, there are 2 "leaf of the world tree" type items, one that can restore the protag and one that can restore your God companion, and you're only supposed to be able to carry one at once; but if you put them in Herme's item bag you can get fill his 64 slot item bag with them. Anyway, even after a lot of grinding, in the later game dungeons I'd constantly need to abuse that, sometimes healing both protag and God using those items after a single fight. Fuck this game.I suppose I could try to find another emulator that lets me edit the RAM and/or sav RAM (neither mednafen or brb do it for game boy) but fuck this, I'm not sure it's worth the bother.I just wonder if it's an og glitch or a fan translation glitch.
I'll have to check it out. Thanks for the rundown
I've never played any of those games but I know the first one is a DQ1 clone and the series is older than Final Fantasy. And the battle theme rapes your earshttps://youtu.be/4D8XvXQOMEg?si=Cq71FD4pJDOntCLT
>>12083278Don't, I managed to get past the translation glitch and beat the game but starting from the mid game the game has been a miserable experience and it just got worse and worse. But if you insist, here are some protips/spoilers that will make things less miserable:1) There are two translations, an older one and a more recent one. The more recent one is more bullshit and item/location names etc matches more closely what is said in guides out there. However as I said key items are glitched and can softlock your game. If that happens, you need to edit the RAM with BGB's debugger to fix it. The key items are located between WRA0:C36D and WRA0:C378. On the plus side the older translation has less flavour text which makes things like saving/going back to the gods faster (something you'll do often).2) Always check the outskirt of areas for secrets. There are 2 in particular that are crucial to beating the game unless you want to grind to max lvl. Both are once you get the second boat: one is on an island to the north, Hephaestus' shrine, there is a MagicBag key item which lets the player access outside of combat an item bag that can carry 64 items; Normally this is a skill only Hermes has so if you find this bag you can ditch Hermes and use another God companion more suited for combat; I didn't know about this myself so I spent most of the game using Hermes. The second one is also once you get the boat, there is a small place in the south with a king-like character enclosed in a small building, south east of it is a hidden tree that spawns those healing seeds3) As I said those healing seeds, there is one that can heal the player and one that can heal your god, are "leaf of the world tree" type items; but if you put them in the item bag one you can get as many as you want. It looks like you can only pick up 14 but you exit and re-enter you can pick up more.
>>12083278>>120841064) Make sure you keep the Zeus sword, and before you go into the final dungeon, Titans' tower, go back to Hephaestus' place5) Even with those tips the game is all grind starting from the mid game. There are 2 types of enemies that yield a ton of exp, and both of them are in a cave in Malea that you can access once you have all 3 keys. You just have to watch out for enemies that can rust/break your gear in that cave so grind a god that can kill them fast like Artemis and some Grindstone/WhtStone with you. Much later on close to the end game in Hades' tower there is a small corridor that only spawns those 2 types of enemies too, but I had already done all my grinding by then.6) Starting from the mid game if you die and you lose money don't worry too much about it, you'll see that in the end you don't need that much money and it is easy to get some.
>>12084106> The more recent [translation] is more bullshitOOPS, I meant more POLISHED. Fredian slip there because I'm still pissed from the glitch.
>>12083301>I know the first one is a DQ1 cloneIt becomes it's own thing due to the whole game world reseting upon death (which is a good thing since you can softlock by talking to NPCs in the wrong order). It's all about experimenting with routing while slowly building up your level.
