Why is this the only Nintendo developed game I enjoy?

I have played every retro Zelda, yes, because on paper it might be something I enjoy, but after finishing them I'm still always disappointed by the lack of interesting world and locations, wimpy hero, pointless magic spells, and focus on puzzles
>>
>>12081224
>complaining not about the quality of puzzles but the mere presence of them

i think you may be too stupid for video games.
>>
>>12081224
You don't like Punch-Out? I thought everybody liked Punch-Out. Nor any 3D F-Zero game? Nor DK Junior Math??!??
>>
Metroid is the closest thing Nintendo has to an "adult" franchise. It's more moody in general and sometimes, like with Other M, it goes into full-on drama.
>>
>>12081231
NTA, but i like a lot of nintendo games, but none of the ones you mentioned
>>
>>12081231
I tried to like fzero a long with other racers but I'm not really interested in non combat vehicle simulation
>>
>>12081243
I absolutely adored Other M growing up. I was so confused when I eventually got internet and saw what everyone else thought of it
>>
>>12081224
Nintendo mega fans and Nintendo themselves have a tendency to drastically over-estimate the quality of their games. You get two fans in a thread suddenly you got a party and you're the odd one out.
>>
>>12081224
play her other games, they're all real solid except other m
>>
>>12081280
If you want bullets and stuff fair enough but F-Zero X and GX are very much combat games. I love knockin dudes off the track, personally
>>
>>12081224
Do you even like retro gaming?
>>
>>12081334
Yeah Nintendo just mostly offered platformers and they all bored me compared to the competition that all had to try and be different to Nintendos more basic approach , from MegaMans weapons system and more engaging bosses, to Sonics pinball physics, to Rocket Knights charge n burst gameplay, I just always wanted something more from a platformer than jumping on guys
>>
nintendo bad
>>
>>12081342
They did also make Super Mario Strikers. And Devil World. You don't like Kirby's Dream Course??? Listen man, Mario is MISSING, you don't want to find him?!?
>>
>>12081227
nintendo's best games are their early puzzle games
>>
>>12081243
Requires more patience to play through
>>
>>12082549
I do not like puzzle
>>
Why did they design it with d-pad up to arrest sideways movement while jumping? Apparently the d-pad in my controller has been degrading as I play and is now giving me shittons of phantom up inputs which, because of this nonsensical control scheme choice, means wall jumping and space jumping are basically broken. This is actually kind of insane.
>>
>>12081224
Why would anyone know or care about your personal preference? Stop being a narcissist.

Hold the fuck up. I just tried using arrow keys and this shit still isn't working. What the actual fuck?
>>
>>12086267
>>12086284
Okay so the way it works in this game is just fucking retarded. Other games just let you keep jumping, The manual says "just after Samus peaks in a somersault jump" but it's actually several frames after that as you are falling but if you're too late then you just plummet back to ground. It's also all fucky about changing direction in air and you can't bonk a ceiling or you just drop.

I came to Super after playing Zero Mission and AM2R and I really can't understand why people seem to hold this in such high regard. Pretty much every aspect of it is kinda shit.
>>
>>12081224
>the lack of interesting world and locations
This is the one aspect where Zelda bests out Metroid the hardest. Like, I really like SM and think the overall design of the game is fantastic and very unique, but it isn't better than what Zelda offers at its best.

>I have played every retro Zelda
>finishing them
I'm going to have to contest you on that. So you've fully played through, and finished, The Legend of Zelda, Adventure of Link, LttP, Link's Awakening, Ocarina, Majora, Oracle of Seasons AND Ages? I'm not expecting 100%/second quest completion or anything.
You should be able to see that "Wimpy hero, pointless magic spells, and focus on puzzles" absolutely doesn't apply to something like AoL.

I know it sounds like a catch-22, like "oh, you've beaten those games, so how could you possibly not like them", but seriously, I have no idea what location in Super Metroid you think is supposed to be more interesting than something like Clock Town.
>>
>>12086268
>Don't discuss opinions on games here
Go back faggot

>>12086308
It's just precise window for timing, it takes more skill. You think this is hard? Play Shinobi games, where nearly every move has a split second window of correct timing

This appeals to me, part of my enjoyment in games is having to master things, I don't like totally breezy experiences my first plays, and Super Metroid is easy enough anyway
>>
>>12086406
The problem is that you can't tell the difference between success and failure and the correct point is totally fucking obtuse. Difficulty has absolutely nothing to do with it.
>>
>>12086348
I just find Zelda locations stock. I like fantasy settings, but like give me something unique. Mortal Kombats living forest, dungeons that are actually foreboding and not more cutesy than old Disney movies idk, I know the top down view limits the artwork but for games where travelling and sight seeing is important I kinda like more detailed immersive environments

Now ok, I've never played AoL, or the N64 ones because I just don't care for N64 games, but all the retro 2D Zelda I have beaten, most multiple times other than the original which I just never wanted to play again
>>
Mario is fat
Kirby is gay
Fox is a furry
Samus is pretty cool
>>
Prime 2 is the greatest GameCube game but it's developed by retro studios not Nintendo so I don't know if it counts but do yourself a favor and play it
>>
>>12086308
>I came to Super after playing Zero Mission and AM2R
There is your problem. SM has the best controls and physics but you will have to git gud.
>>
>>12086417
Nah I can do hundreds of walljumps etc without fail.
>>
>>12088614
All you gotta do is practice then. Keep at it
>>
>>12090096
I am not op. Read it again. But yes you are right its simply practice. Once you have the muscle memory SM plays best. No other metroid has so much stuff you can do with the movement. Trick jumps blabla
>>
>>12088270
Kirby is an Eldridge horror to me. The eater of worlds.
>>
>>12090118
>eldridge horror
Oh OK yeah I guess he is gay
>>
>>12086308
>Pretty much every aspect of it is kinda shit.
This post was more than just complaining about space and wall jumping. But they are weird. I had a hell of a time getting up where wall jumping is tutorialized (to the power bomb expansion) but I went up a shaft, that I didn't immediately realize was meant to be shinesparked, with a totally effortless series of walljumps.

The game has obtuse bullshit and devs pissing on you all over the place. A truly retarded amount of one way doors/paths and non-item progress-gating. Even looking at a complete map that someone made (much more detail than in game) doesn't really help you make sense of what you're actually allowed to do. "Haha collapsing blocks right in front of the item go do it again faggot lolololol."
>>
>>12091287
When I first entered Maridia by power bombing the tube, I took the first door to go for springball. Everyone agrees that those sand rooms are complete ass-cancer but that's just the start of the shitfest. I make my way through to the path to the springball and don't realize that it's possible to jump all the way to the ceiling out of sand, so I go past the hole made by the crumbling grapple block into the next room and ice beam the leech things to go up there. That was also incredibly irritating because there's one up top who jumps up out of frame and halts simulation so, as soon as you make the jump up he drops on your head and knocks you back down. I finally deal with getting one leech frozen down bottom in the right spot to jump up, manage to not get bodied by the one up top only to discover lolonewayblocks higher up in contrast to blocks that can be shot out down below. Total fucking waste of time. So I learn that I can make the jump in the other room and get the springball, go to leave and find that this entire area has a one-way door and you're supposed to take the tube up from the middle of the area. But once up there, I find locked doors because I haven't killed the bosses yet. I have to go waaaaaaaaaaay the fuck around up through the wrecked ship and crateria back down the brinstar shaft. What the actual fuck.

I later learn that the path was blocked because it requires space jump to traverse. And it's still a circuitous roundabout path that you have to go through multiple times because you have to drop down into the sand area and loop back through twice to access two rooms of items.

Norfair has a total shitfest of a map and looking at a complete map actually makes it more confusing, leading one to think there are a bunch of paths you can take through it but really it's basically completely linear with three segments done at different points of progress.

>The exploration game makes you explore, and that's bad
You're a doofus. Go play a fighting game and get mad that you have to memorize command inputs and can't just do special moves with one button, or play a platformer and complain that have to jump over enemies and die when they touch you. Hell go listen to metal and complain about the treble or listen to rap and complain about the bass

There's always someone who for some reason thinks Metroid is Aliens Mega Man when it's actually Space Zelda, what you dislike is literally the point of the game
>>
>>12091364
How has being illiterate impacted your daily life?
>>
>>12091374
How does being retarded impact yours shrimpdick

Or were you just complaining that the exploration is too hard? You want to walk around areas without having any challenges in navigating? That's not a fucking game anymore, game by definition is something that makes you test skills and need to practice or memorize to get better
>>
>>12091398
Learn to read.
>>
>>12091402
Learn to play or go back to your movie games on /v/ ya fucking trash scrub
>>
>>12091364
>>12091398
>>12091421
The complaint is that the design makes someone trying to explore feel unrewarded or insulted, not that the person doesn't want to explore. You are fucking retarded.
>>
>>12091481
If you feel insulted by having to explore, meaning check out areas that sometimes aren't the next step to your current objective, or insulted by the fact that there are environmental hazards, traps, and challenges in the exploration, you're a fucking idiot who doesn't know how to play video games
>>
>>12083994
this is why Zelda 1 and 2 are the best
No faggy puzzles
Just straight exploration and combat
