Tank controls serves no purpose in survival horror games made after 1994. Alone in the Dark only did so because it had to be software rendered using the puny i286 CPU. All it does is making the controls janky and hindering you in combat for literally no in-game reason for the sake of delivering better gwafix.
"I love sucking cock" - OP
>>12081860is there a survival horror game where you spend most of your time driving around in a tank?
>>12081949I want a survival horror game that plays like Gran Turismo
>>12081952>Gran Turismois that a nickname for your grandparents?
>>12081860Tank controls were a bandaid to deal with the changing camera angles in old prerendered 3D games.
>>12081949Tanks control better actually, they can strafe.
>>12081965You haven't needed to prerender backgrounds anymore since the PS1 came out.
>>12081952But gran turismo is or wuz a horrors gaem on ps2 I wuz told the console would go hot after playan 13 hours straightmxyrma
>>12081860FUCKING THIS. Proof you don't need dogshit controls to be a terrifying horror game. Proof you can have awesome combat while being scary as hell.>>12081876Condemned will always mog every Resident Evil and Silent Hill game combined. Cope and seethe weeb.
>>12081860Tank controls are 1st person. They're only weird when using 3d person isometric and only if you're a brainlet.
>>12081860>>12081991It's more of a thriller than horror
>>12081860I don't think tank contols "serve no purpose", but I also think people suck them off for their "difficulty" and think removing it will make the game too easy, are engaging in a self-own about the game they like. Tank controls have a definitive purpose, it allows you to use lots of nice static, cinematic camera angles without fucking up the player's orientation of movement since Up always means Forward no matter what the camera is doing. But if you think the only thing keeping your game hard is you don't have free 8-gate movement, your game was never hard to begin with.
>>12081860this isn't retro right I'm not ready for this shit to be fucking retro
Tank controls are more precise and realistic compared with camera relative movement. You can turn quickly in real life but you wouldn't actually know whats behind you so the delay in reactivity compensates somewhat with the time it would take to get your bearings in the opposite direction.Tomb Raider is still the most immersive 3D platformer because bing-bong-wahooing around is totally alien to the human body, not just because of the fast turning but also the lack of visual information
>>12081860So why exactly did you post a picture of Condemned, a game with zero tank controls?
>>12081991Cuckdemned is slow paced F.E.A.R but more boring
>>12082323Nonsensical l comparison. Only thing they have in common is excellent lighting.
>>12081989>You haven't needed to prerender backgrounds anymore since the PS1 came out.And yet, PS1 still had many games using them.
>>12082220Xbox 360 didn't even get a HDMI port until nearly two years after the first model launched. Condemned: Criminal Origins was one of its launch titles in 2005. I'd say that's pretty retro.
>>12082315Stealth 7th gen thread
>>12082315Because Condemned is proof that you can have modern controls while still being terrifying.
As always "mog"-posters are a bunch of underaged bastards hellbent to wage unnecessary wars while talking like idiots.
>>12081860I would never understand the complaints about tank controls. Unless you have a mental disability, it's something you get used to in a matter of a couple of minutes, and the longer you play, the less you even notice it.
>>12084679I think tank controls are god awful with melee systems, as Alone in the Dark proved.
>>12084690>never played onimusha Where are all these tourists coming from? Come on man you can do better than this.
>>12084698Okay I haven't played the series since 2, but I have to imagine it hasn't held up like I think it maybe does compared to something like Ninja Gaiden.
>>12081860I recently played through Cold Fear and I wish that game had tank controls over the shitty ones it has.
>>12084698I think people who weren't gaming during the '90s have a harder time adapting to tank controls. And people born in the '00s find it outright impossible, which comes as no surprise given that these people refuse to engage with things that require even a small amount of effort on their part.
>>12084703Okay if you are comparing it to NGB no of course not but it works well for that mood and tone the game is conveying. you would feel too powerful having NGB controls in most games. Onimusha is a good compromise. You have good control but also feel like controlling a normal dude
>>12084679>it's something you get used toThat's not the problem. The problem is AI and encounters will get dumbed down to match your handicapped control scheme. >>12084698>onimushaGame with great animations and sound design ruined by tank controls and fixed camera? If it controlled like Blade of Darkness it'd be a much better game that allowed you to perform more complex stunts.
>>12084698In Onimusha you automatically rotate to face the enemy when you press the attack button while any enemy is within 3 meters which makes the tank controls a non-issue.
females and estrogenized "men" are the only ones who complain about tank controls
>>12084935>ackshually dis car would be better if it had more wheelswe already had this thread and you are still a mongoloid.
To be fair, it takes a fairly high IQ to understand tank controls.
>>12082218>but I also think people suck them off for their "difficulty" and think removing it will make the game too easy, are engaging in a self-own about the game they like. tank controls aren't a deal breaker for me but i feel like 99.9% of people who defend tank controls are like this anon here >>12082096 because it makes them feel smart/skilled without putting any effort into actually being smart/skilled in the first place. they don't care if the game is piss easy without tank controls because it makes them feel like a 1000+ IQ MENSA "genius" for playing a game with shitty controls.
>>12084935>The problem is AI and encounters will get dumbed down to match your handicapped control scheme. The same is true for every single type of control scheme.
>>12084935>will get dumbed down to match your handicapped control scheme. Every single game is designed around the player's movement. This is like complaining that you can only move on an X-axis while playing a 2D game.
>>12085096Complain?
>>12085851why did you post an aids tranny?
>>12085096It's actually an IQ issue as well. Some people don't have the spatial awareness to rearrange your organic cardinal directions, especially on the fly. Which is what happens when using tank controls in changing perspectives.
>>12085862You don't have to put aids in front of tranny, that's like putting www. In front of an url. We all know they have aids.
>>12084712Cold Fear doesn't have tank controls? Are its controls similar to Silent Hill 4?>>12085096Opposite is true. Tank controls are troon coded.
>>12085851There's porn of this creature getting its bung piped by an old leathery roid boomer. The troon has an incredibly small penis. Like impressively tiny and pathetic. Troondom was really it's only option.
>>12085240>>12085421The more maneuvers you can make and the easier you can pull them off, the more mobile and aggressive the enemies become as well. The problem with tank control survival horror games is the enemies don't behave as they realistically would.
>>12081860Tank controls are fine really, they are only "bad" because they are not the standardised controls people are used to nowadays.
>>12081860>Tank controls serves no purpose.Now I agree.
>>12081860OTS could have easily been in 5th gen survival horror games. They just didn't think to do it and also didn't make appropriate level design to accommodate such gameplay. Even back then you had third person action games that were centered directly behind the backs of the player character so to think that OTS would have been impossible back in the day is absolutely laughable. I am amazed more people don't realize this was totally doable back in the day and instead they want to cite console limitations as to why we had those games. No we had them because it was a design decision first and foremost. They can claim console limitations all they want but we have plenty of examples that prove survival horror games did not need fixed cameras or even tank controls at all. Devs did it to increase the tension in their horror games.
>>12084698I can't play every damn game.
>>12088392apply yourself
First person games are only scary when you have no weapons, like HellnightYou can whine about it all you like, but manual aiming makes a game inherently unscary because it makes shooting too involving and funI don't care how capable or spooooky you make your enemies, if fightong them is fun, your game is not and will never be scaryThe combat in horror games should be rudimentary, so auto aiming for firearms and no lock on for melee combat
>>12090124Fatal Frame games are both scary and fun
>>12090124>First person games are only scary when you have no weaponsKys zoomer
>>12090130Hellnight is older than you, faggot
>>12081860tank controls are based and filter retards.
>>12090126Disagree on the scary part, but FF also has the unnecesary RPG elements of upgrading your camera and learning new skills for it, which feels empowering and lessens the horrorAlso the blue sparkles coming out of enemies into your camera while ZERO SHOT or FATAL FRAME appears on the screen feels too arcadeyIf they just kept the different camera films, removed the rpg elements and replaced the goofy effects with something more appropriate it would've been much better
>>12090137>I played an old game so I cannot be a zoomerSaying horror games can only be scary without combat is zoomer walking simulator e celeb reaction horror "game" fanboy mentality.
>>12090243>Saying horror gamesFirst person ones, yes
>>12082220>>12083993One month remains.Tick-tock.
>>12090158What games do you find scary aside from Hellnight then?
