What am I in for?
>...it looks excellentthat's the best quote they could cherrypick?
This game was such a fucking shitshow at launch. I went back and played it again like 10 years ago and it was surprisingly decent, not something I'd actually play seriously though.
>>12085610I remember this. I was trying out the free trial and the loading was all kinds of fucked up.
>>12085610I had a beefy computer for 2001 and remember frames-per-second becoming minutes-per-frame once you got to an area with other people...also I rolled one of those nanotech(?) guys as a martial artist because I thought it'd be cool matrix shit... turned out that just because you can pick a melee job on an obligatory caster race doesn't mean you should...
>>12085529Gamespot previews were never negative. (Which makes sense for upcoming games that look interesting to not totally prejudge them)
>>12085818yea also makes sense for access "journalists" aka PR people who are desperately trying to get hired in the game industry so they can leave their shitty magazine job
holy shit, AO is still running?
>>12086360Aside from the MMOs that failed almost immediately, the only classic MMO I can think of that's dead dead is Asheron's Call. That said, most aren't in a state that you'd actually want to play...
>>12086367Oh, and SWG.
>>12086367There are opensource private AC servers that run surprisingly well. Sadly it is a reconstructed experience, but they've done a shockingly good job on it just based on old datafiles and logs. It's quite playable, even dungeons and most quests and such.
>>12086462To follow up, a great thing is that because Turbine was one of the few companies to openly allow pretty much all forms of modding, including autopathing and item scanning, huge amounts of data on all kinds of game systems were able to be recorded before the official game shut down. While the actual server netcode is reconstructed, it uses the original client and most stuff "just works".I think the one standout thing that was lost is a lot of NPCs seem to have reset to default faces. But otherwise monsters, loot tables, shop inventories, quest dialogue and triggers etc, spells and special effects, most things seem functional. Even the player housing works, and they took out monthly rent payments so you can keep your house forever.
>that one loser with AC when all the cool kids were playing EQ
>>12086360kek I looked at the official forums, nobody at funcom has posted there in like 4 years, there's barely any player posts from this year and they're mostly complaining about the complete lack of gm support and rampant hacking
>>12086490Sounds like online anarchy to me. Truth in advertising for once.
>>12086485Your post doesn't even make sense, zoom. How young are you?
>>12085382Normal MMO with scifi theme.
>>12086681found the AC loser
>>12087530nuh uh i had nothing which is better somehow
