What went so right?

These games are fucking 10/10. They ooze soul out of every fibre.

Nothing else even comes close. You beat ALTTP once and that's it.

But you can beat those 2 over and over again. It's like crack in video game form.

Ngl, I felt like Kamek was gay-coded.
>>
>>12085431
Yeah, they're great. I played the shit out of them as a kid. I don't really care too much for them anymore. Though, I get the urge every once in a full white moon that lives in a gated community with signs that say " no blacks allowed "

LTTP has replay value, you speak only for yourself. Yoshis Island isn't really a mainline Mario game either even though they titled it that. It's just it's own thing. I don't think that game has much replay value personally... It's slightly boring

YI is mid compared to SMB4

are these also acceptable?

>SMW
Good but inferior to 3 and allowed Sonic to take over.

>Yoshi's Island
No.
>>
I have no desire to play them and I've beaten Super Mario World many, many years ago. The only SNES games I want to replay is Contra III so I can beat it on hard, and Romancing SaGa 2 and 3.
>>
SMW always felt underwhelming. I've always preferred SMB3.

>meme opinion
>meme name for SMW

>smw
(much) worse than 3
>YI
(much) worse than smw
>both games
(much) worse than dkc

Yoshi's Island is literally just a Yoshi game. It should not have SMW2 as its title at all.
>>
>>12085431
>nine worlds
>96 levels
This was an incredibly rich game for its time. I still prefer Sonic because I enjoy 2D Genesis era Sonic gameplay the most of any platformer but SMW clearly mogs it in terms of quantity.

No joke the Yoshi's Island Athletic Theme INSTANTLY lifts my spirits and has be smiling from ear to ear jumping with happiness. It's like that track is an instant cure-all for depression. Thank GOD I discovered Yoshi's Island as a Zoomer teen otherwise I legitimately feel as though I would've taken my own life.

Yoshi's Island is just so happy and colorful and beautiful that I can't help BUT smile!
>>
You can only like ONE
>>
>>12088374
I think it's just called that because it was the second mainstream Mario game on the system
>>

Super Mario World is what I think of when someone says "video game". It looks, sounds and plays like a million bucks, the world is just so colorful and inviting. The secrets open more levels, the cape is wildly. It's far better than 3 IMO (not a knock against 3).
Yoshi's Island feels like the pinnacle of the SNES. It uses every trick the system has plus throws in the Super FX2 chip for good measure. It's a masterclass in 2D platforming and.

2D Mario (and 2D Yoshi for that matter) peaked here and it's sort of a massive knock against Nintendo that they've had over 30 years and been unable to capture the magic of these two games.
>>
>>12089786
>over 30 years and been unable to capture the magi
To be fair, we're almost 3 decades into the 21st century and humanity as a whole is still incapable of recapture the soul and magic of the late 20th century. It's not just Nintendo.
>>
>>12089792
True.

I'll be devil's advocate here and say Nintendo actually has done a pretty good job with their 3D stuff - I thought Mario Odyssey and the two recent Zelda games were well done and are high points of their respective series (not /vr/ I know...). But they've completely lost their way on 2D stuff. The soullessness of the NSMB games is well documented at this point.
>>
>>12085431
That's because alttp SUCKS
>>
>>12088390
Based smile enjoyer. I could use one of those. Gonna play some yoshis Island when I get home.
>>
>>12085431
I disagree on the replay. SMW and Zelda LttP I can and do replay a bunch. Dozens of times each, easily.

I've only beat Yoshi's Island once. It's a chore to get all the collectables, and the levels are huge. It's much more exploration and stressful, instead of just breezing through and having fun like the other two games. The amount of times you have to replay some of those long hard levels to get everything just becomes a chore at some point.

With that being said, the game is possibly the best platformer ever made. It goes so far above SMW and the levels and secrets are so innovative. It's damn impressive.

Oh and the egg aiming shit also gets tedious, and egg inventory is too.

>Sonic to take over.
Kek. In what reality?
>>
>>12085431
SMW is legitimately bad and I’m extremely tired of people constantly praising it
DKC is LEAGUES better, same with Yoshi’s Island
Same with Sonic
SMW is stale, controls like shit, has zero interesting elements going on, has an awful soundtrack filled with legitimate kazoo music
No challenge, long as fuck for no reason, awful disgusting pastel colors that look like dogshit on non-CRTs
Literally any major 16bit platformer trumped SMW in every possible way
I fucking hate that game and I legitimately want people to stop talking about it and Nintendo to stop referencing it
SMB3 was okay at best, Mario wasn’t worth Jack fucking Shit until 64 though
>>
>>12091390
chill bro
>>
>>12091392
SMW is not good.
People need to stop lying to themselves about its quality.
The SNES, MD, TG16 all had superior platformers of great variety.
MANY games had better music and art direction.
Is that chill enough.
