This game is strangely addicting despite its shallowness, and I almost have to respect the devotion to keeping the controls so painfully simple. The combat design is purely about spacing and crowd control, with all the challenges and modifiers built around that philosophy. Even without evasive and defensive techniques or supers, it's been fun enough to make me do the missions and want to attempt the hard mode challenge run. I knew it was pretty infamous considering its time and place, but playing it now, I'm thinking it may be quietly a few steps behind Luigi's Mansion. Do you think it deserves it's reputation?
The game would have done fine on Gamecube, especially with RARE cooking up Perfect Dark 2 and Diddy Kong Racing 2. RARE being on Xbox mindfucked people beyond anything so the game was never gonna work.
>Do you think it deserves it's reputation?Yes, absolutely. I'm glad you've gotten something out the gameplay but personally I found it incredibly tedious and tiresome. Ultimately the combat feels very shallow and depends on the level-dependent handicaps, which are boring at best and completely unreasonable at worst. Fucking Krackpot's Lab might be one of the worst "Rare-difficulty" moments in their entire catalogue, which is really saying something. Adequately charming world, jokes etc but it doesn't make up for the lack of polish.Would it have better received and remembered as a GameCube exclusive? Yeah, probably. Make of that what you will.
>>12086321>RARE being on Xbox mindfucked people beyond anythingI was a N64 faggot and thanks to Rare I asked my parents for an Xbox. Imagine a tendie64 faggot who thought Perfect Dark was peak FPS playing Halo.
>>12086303I liked it quite well enough. It is simple, somewhat shallow, but it's a beat-em-up, that's par for the course. I never understood why people were so harsh on Ghoulies for it when, at worst, it's only as shallow as the many peers that people much more readily excuse for the same flaws, and Ghoulies at least has a lot more whimsy in its setting and a fun weight to its combat. Few things really stack up to Cooper elbow dropping a Skeleton to pieces, or punting an imp into orbit.I can only assume a lot of it's because "muh Rare, fuck Xbox"
>>12086870>It is simple, somewhat shallow, but it's a beat-em-up, that's par for the courseLiterally not true, tard.
>>12086875Aww witally? It's witally not twue?Too bad, eat shit. The only Beat-Em-Ups that tried were the Capcom Dungeons & Dragons games. Everything else is as shallow as the puddle of drool a slackjawed jizzrag like you spittles out.
>>12086303Insanely boring game, that doesn't even have enough gimmicks to warrant it's length.
>>12086883>This angry over the truthAnd the scariest part? The average beat em up clears your favorite game in terms of difficulty.
>>12086963It's like playing monopoly with your family. You do that, right?
