I remember this as the original Pokémon Jade and Ruby. A lot of people thought this was some hack or pirated crap. I had no idea it was a real original game even though that was constantly mentioned every time you looked it up. Was it better than Pokémon? It kind of reminded me more of that animorphs game.

I had a bootleg of the sequel on GBA called Pokemon Ruby with a machine translation to English. I've never seen it uploaded online anywhere. I really liked what little I could play of it, but it kept crashing all the time and there was like a 10% chance it would actually boot up correctly.
