did they really expect you to buy a dedicated memory card for every ps2 game?
>>
No. What a retarded thread
>>
>>12091563
Yes. That's why every box has a memory card holder.
>>
>>12091563
No.
But here is a better question:
Are you retarded?
>>
>>12091563
Fuck no. The memory card holders are there so you have a safe place to store them when you want to take a game over to a friend's house and show them your badass save file.
You could use them to store dedicated memory cards for specific games too, but most people didn't.
>>
>>12091563
You didn't?
>>
you have to think long term, what if you wanted to pick back up the game 20 years later and continue from your old save? way more convenient to have a dedicated card in the case with the dvd
>>
>>12091563
I remember later ps2 releases like starting in ~2006 removed the memory card holder

No.
But it was cheap to simply reproduced the exact same plastic container, instead.
>>
>>12091589
>when you want to take a game over to a friend's house
to a what?
>>
>>12091638
I'm sorry I've been watching a lot of anime lately and I got it mixed up with real life.
>>
>>12091563
There was actually a huge lawsuit over it alleging that card storage should be mandatory because the cards themselves were mandatory for PS2 games. Sony won the lawsuit of course, but they added the storage clips anyway.
>>
This fag made the exact same thread on /v/
>>
>>12091762
>40 minutes later
jannies aren't that dumb anon, you spamming copies of a thread that you don't like is just going to get you banned, not the op
>>
>>12091589
Further, the memory card space also provides a bit more structural strength to the case.

>>12091762
This thread is a repost from a few months back.
>>
>>12092278
then you should be able to find it on the archive, right? oh, you can't? fuck off then
>>
>>12092896
NTA but pretty easy to find. You only posted it once before idk what his problem is.

I accept your concession

That's not even asking the same question as the OP.

Yes anon, they expected every game to have a dedicated memory card. That is the only possible reason
>>
>>12093095
this but unironically
>>
The original intent was that every PS2 game would come with a memory card, but 3rd parties refused to comply because it would drive up their costs by a few pennies.
>>
>>12093047
>Can't even quote properly
>>
>>12091589
The holders are there to help justify making the case about the same size as a DVD case, for one reason or another. Using that type of box is the goal, not providing storage space for memory cards.
>>
A lot of mad people in this thread who could only afford 1 memory card I guess.
>>
Gamecube had this too. I kept drugs in there.
>>
This would be convenient for any games that could hog an entire memory card, but I can't think of anything other than Everquest Online Adventures that could seriously fill 8mb of save data.
>>
>>12091563
brainlet, it was for transporting your mem card. you could take your game and saves to a friend's
>>
>>12095587
Uh huh. Post your source.
>>
>>12091638
To a friend's house.
>muh no friends meme
Eat shit.
>>
>>12091563
no you fool
>>
>>12095680
ARE YOU KIDDDING ME?!
>>
>>12095680
no, it's common sense
>>
FYI, those exist because they provide rigidity and support to the cases so they do no bend and crack.

There was never any intention of you actually placing cards into them, they just needed something rigid and structurally easy to make in that open space inside the case plastic.
>>
>>12091563
This thread was made in /v/ the other day.

I found it funny the PS2 has a fix for a PS1 problem. Those memory cards genuinely were so small you could only fit data for like 5 games tops. Most of the time, it was 2 or 3 some giant games needed a dedicated memory card. This is why they had a place to write on so you could label your cards. The PS2 had giant memory cards by comparison being able to fit dozens of games data on one card, yet the PS2 is the one where you could stuff a card into the box the game came in. Goofy ass japs.
Gaycube did this shit too, I didn't have an Xbox so someone else will have to comment on that one.
>>
>>12095560
Oh shit you just gave me a flashback lmao
>>
>>12095820
The xbox had memory cards that plugged into the controller, but no one used them because games saved to the hard drive. I don't even know what they look like.
Afaik the cases did not have a spot for them.
>>
>>12095820
Xbox came with a hard drive so you didn't need a memory card. They existed but I never needed one.
>>
>>12095837
The cases didn't have a spot for them because they plugged into the controller rather than the console.
>>
>>12095812
Yes, by you, an hour after this thread was created. Because you were so mad you thought that if you spammed copies of the thread you would get the OP deleted. Instead your thread got deleted and you got a 3 day which you seem to be evading now.
>>
>>12095840
>>12095837
Kinda funny, but I guess at that point the memory card on the Xbox was more to bring your save to other people's houses or if you had multiple xboxes for whatever reason.

Yes, all the cool kids did it and you got beaten up and called a broke faggot if they found out you had a memory card with more than one file on it
>>
>>12091563
You had to for sports games
>>
>>12091563
Too all the zoomers: Back then we often did couch coop and would go to our friends houses, so storing a memory card in the game case of the game we were bringing was very helpful.

Plus there are some games that just absolutely eat blocks of memory, like PSO so having a dedicated card for some games was also convenient.
>>
>>12096050
>we
you have to go back
>>
>>12091589
It's where you put them when you are and then you have put them.
>>
you couldn't actually remove the dvd unless you put a memory card in the slot
equivalent trade
>>
>>12096054
NTA, but yes, we used to go to our friend's houses to play video games and invite them over to ours. We would often have sleepovers on the weekends in which we just stay up all night playing video games. Together. In the same room. They were great times and I feel genuinely sorry that zoomers apparently never got to experience this.
>>

there's that /r/eddit word again

Yeah, I think you're the redditor here in the old vein of I think the lady doth protest too much. You should go back. Hearing about how others had friends to play videogames with while growing up is clearly triggering you and this isn't a safespace for you.
