I beat NEStroid back when I was really bad at video games in general and had to use a guide, and I didn't feel good about it. I just did it a second time after forgetting all the specifics of the map. I had to give myself a single hint after getting stuck in Kraid but beyond that I beat it unassisted and without a death, and the problem area was something I would've figured out had I given myself 10 more minutes. I get how people occupied themselves with technically sub-2 hour experiences for a year or more back then
