Yoshi's island 1 or Yoshi's island 2? Which one you like more?Which one you go first?
>>121032262 is peak soul.
>>12103226As a kid I would constantly return to the world map after killing the row of koopas until I got the max score of 9999990.
1 is optional2 is obligatory
I love Yoshi's Island 1look at that background, pure soul
>>12106189>1 is optionalDon't you need to get to the Yellow Switch Palace to progress at some point? I'm pretty sure that one is mandatory.
>>12106364You can get all 96 exits without hitting a single Switch Palace.
>>12103226Fuck smw is so good. I can't believe there's people out there who have the audacity to call themselves gamers when they haven't even touched this masterpiece.
>>12103226I'm sorry OP, I can't choose, I like them both.
Anyone else not do the obvious shell throw here for the 1-up, and instead carry it with them to try to do more creative tricks?I love how freeform and play-around-withy SMW1 feels
>>12106373>all 96 exitsDon't people just call that beating the level?
>>12107438Some levels have multiple exits, and each exit found counts separately towards the clear indicator displayed on the game select menu.
>>12106362True, that bg isn't used again in later levels, does it? Makes it more special. As a kid, the first time I turned on my brand new SNES and started my very first file, I went to YI2 though.

>>121032262 is more iconic
>>12108861>2.6k views Shameful. What sick footage.
>>12103226Yoshi's Island 1 >Yellow Switch Palace >Yoshi's Island 2
>>12106373I don’t know why I’ve never thought to do that
>>121032262 > 1
2, it feels way more "level 1"-ish than 1, aesthetically and gameplay-wise (tho i guess you could argue the eyed hills in the background are more iconic of SMW.) plus for North American audiences it's more natural to go from left to right. as a kid i played 2 first thinking it was the first level.
I always save the switch palaces for as long as possible. They're such fun bonus rounds and unlike castles and forts they're the one thing you can't replay without a gamegenie or patch.
>>12103226One has the big bullet bill
>>12103226I always considered YI1 the first level of the game, though I suppose it's technically optional. I love 2 as well, but 1 is my preferred stage.
YI1 is also one of the few levels with the rare 3-up Moon
>>12115797Where is it?
>>12103226Yoshi's Island 1 was the first level I ever played in the game at a demo kiosk in Toys R Us. It blew my fucking mind.Although what blew my mind more was Yoshi's House. The idea of a "level" like that with no timer that served no real purpose was so novel to me back in 1991. I always used to head back there to chill and eat berries with Yoshi between levels.

>>12116880in the air, left of the area with the 1-up that goes across a bridge of blocks over a banzai bill. you need either a cape or yoshi to reach it.
>>12103374Give it back please
>>12107438Some do.
>>12118946This pic gives me australia-kun autism vibes, but it's true that american marketers would olay around with made up things, similar to blast processing etc.Sonic CD also has something like that (they counted past, present, bad future and good future versions of a level as different levels altogether)
>>12117296>I also used to think the fire had a hurtbox so I would jump over itI used to always show up with a fire flower so I could shoot fireballs at it and pretend Mario was lighting the fire.
>>12119192Immense soul
>>12118946>>12118952desu I think it was honestly just the burger marketers not understanding what that number on the file select screen meant. On another note, our local Nintendo magazine claimed the game actually has 100 exits, because Bowser's level(s) "counts as 4, but since you beat the game you don't get to save that number". I have no fucking idea what they were on.
>>12118946keep seething loser
I like 2 because there's more stuff going on, and has Yoshi, but 1 also has Rexes, Banzai Bill, diagonal cannon pipe, and the blue mountains background. I dunno... It's probably a tie.
>>12119341The best part of this "level/exit count" debacle is that exactly NOBODY gave a fuck back in the 90s. Everyone was too busy having fun trying to find all the exits to care exactly how fucking many there were.
>>12106373Oh, so there are 100 exits if you count the switch palaces, that's cool.
>>12106373>>12121573aren't there some you don't have to do anyway like the normal exits in forest of illusion and star world (except for sw5)? so it's more like 103-7
>>12103226never been a fan desu>>12118946fair
>>12107432>Anyone else not do the obvious shell throw here for the 1-up, and instead carry it with them to try to do more creative tricks?I always like to start the level with Yoshi and use it to spit out a fireball along the line of troopas, then try to chase it through the whole level.
>>12118946just fuck Donkey Kong Country counting the bonus rooms is just peak misinfo.
>>12118946>>12118952What's the room count for Panic! on SCD?
