It's made by Germans and based on a German tabletop system called The Dark Eye. It's not a "light" RPG.

what makes RoA tricky is that the trilogy ported the entire skillset from the tabletop and a lot of those skills are never checked in the games. so the manual is actually misleading, it's better to read a guide to see which skills are useless. good games though.

Yeah, the devs started making the game by first translating every tabletop rule to a game engine.

The game was so accurate to 2nd edition The Dark Eye that I literally used to take the included manual and map with me to tabletop games because it made an excellent short reference book for the game rules.

I played Star Trail in English with no knowledge of the tabletop system. I didn't even know it was a sequel until the first scene with the David Bowie elf because the box had no indication that it was one. Loved the game though, such a cool adventuring simulation with the map travel.

Yep, he was the box art model. Very familiar with the trilogy now and also enjoyed the Drakensang games, but at the time it was a struggle to understand them. Luckily I was a stubborn kid.
