What are your favourite old school coin eaters?

Alien Vs. Predator is probably one of the best looking sprite based beat em ups I've ever played. I've also recently discovered Night Slashers (webm related) and it's a lot of fun. Also looking for recommendations for fun 2 player (or more) arcade games.

I like Undercover Cops (Alpha Renewal version). I've always been a fan of Irem's gritty spritework and this game has it in spades.
>>
>>12105718
Holy shit, those are some nice animations. Will check this one out!
>>
>>12105737
Make sure you play either the japanese or Renewal version. The international version was gimped behond recognition. You can read more about the changes here if you're interested:

I love pic related. Need to try 88 as well to see if it's any good.

That's a lot of changes. Why did they fuck it like that, I wonder?
>>
Edward Randy : The Cliffhanger
Indiana Jones with the serial numbers filed off in a beat-em-up that takes place on boats, planes, and anywhere else the devs thought would make for exciting locations. Very impressive graphically.

Dark Adventure
Gauntlet with the Gradius upgrade system, and it has an ending after you beat all 40 levels. Once you git gud, you can tackle the non-North American versions which have 19 levels and multiple endings but are far less lenient about quarter feeding.

Escape From The Planet Of The Robot Monsters
Isometric run'n'gun with a z-axis, ducking and cover, and just about everything can be destroyed. Fast paced and brutal action.

Wonder Boy in Monster Land
Platformer with RPG elements, you collect gold you can use to buy better armor(take less damage), better shoes(move faster), etc, and they last until game over. Can be beaten, but the final level is designed to end runs with bullshit.
>>
>>12105602
my favorite beat em up is Cadillacs but everybody's played that one. check out Guardians/Denjin Makai 2 and Zero Team for some good less known stuff.

>>12105718
>>12105737
same guys who later did pixel art for Metal Slug. the Gunforce games and In the Hunt look great too.

I second this one, it's up there with the best of the genre.

When it comes to visuals, check out Pretty Soldier Sailor Moon and Violent Storm, both play great as well.

>Wonder Boy in Monster Land
I dont know if there is a proper way to play it in not fucked english on mame. If not, dont feel bad about save stating the sphinx quiz as long as you take the time to figure out the intended method of answering correctly. Its supposed to be trivial if you know the trick.
>>
>>12105602
Some good beat'em ups are Armored Warriors, Rastan Saga (need a version of MAME with widescreen), and both Denjin Makai games.
>>
>>12106034
>Pretty Soldier Sailor Moon
I saw someone describe this as a high budget beat em up made by people who've never played a beat em up before and it's spot on imo.

>>12106174
It's alright. Pretty much SoR2-lite with a worse soundtrack.
>>
>>12106405
>Viper Phase 1
this is kind of a knock-off of the Raiden Fighters games but not as good imo. definitely play those first, each one's better than the last.

>Armed Police Batrider
>Dangun Feveron
>Dragon Blaze
>Great Mahou Daisakusen
>Mars Matrix
all of these are top tier shmups, Batrider is probably my favorite game from your list. Gunbird 2 also well worth checking out, the best Psikyo game imo, I'm surprised it didn't make the cut for you.
>>
>>12105602
Night slashes looks fun from the outside,
but you play it and it's quite stiff. So it's good to play it once.

Agreed but figured Raiden's pretty well-known, similarly with Aero Fighters and a few others. Gunbird 1 & 2 I accidentally deleted while shortening that list, lol.

Osman has the most insane/random plot developments in any game, seriously WTF is even going on in there?

For me it's Twinkle Star Sprites.
Surprisingly very well designed VS shmup despite ADK barely doing anything of note of the same genre.

this take is dumb asf since it plays very much like FF. it's a great game.

he's some poser who never played those game past the title screen
>>
>>12105602
Right now I'm playing Altered Beast and Crossed Swords.
>>
>>12108158
I also have no idea which is which and the level order is all different. But anyway, also recommend playing this game and picking the girl to see her ass on her sprite.
>>
Lots of good stuff to check out in this thread. Not sure if I've just missed them, but feels like I haven't seen an arcade thread in /vr/ for a while. Rastan Saga been mentioned a few times already, but I've only tried the third one, Warrior Blade (webm related). Love the widescreen on this game, looks amazing.
>>
>>12106034
Too bad that we can't see up their skirt nor butt.
>>
>>12109174
>can't see up their skirt nor butt
you want to see up their butts? upskirt I get, but changing the camera angle so it shows a view into their assholes seems tricky to pull off on multiple levels.
>>
>>12109174
I'm seeing it on the top right screenshot there
>>
>>12105602
For games that works on both FBNeo and MAME which one do you prefer to use?
>>
>>12109490
FBN. Mame is such an antiquated joke and it refusing to load games because you don't have a matching rom set.
>>
>>12109221
Which one?
>>
>>12109832
the one that post was replying to
>>12106034
>>

I think he meant if it's upskirt or butt.
>>
>>12109490
FBNeo generally runs better and has better RetroArch integration, supporting runahead and letting you flip dipswitches from the Core Options menu. It's also notably better for rotary games like Forgotten Worlds and Eco Fighters if all you have is a gamepad, turning them into pseudo-twin stick shooters by translating right stick directional input into the rotary axis. For vector graphics games though, MAME 2003 has way better rendering and antialiasing, at least for the RA cores.
>>
>>12109174
Pretty sure you can see Sailor Mercury upskirt while she throws an enemy.
>>
I like Rampart

Tried Blood Bros recently and holy hell, can't remember the last time I chuckled that much during a game and that victory animation actually made me laugh out loud.
