For me? It's Serious Sam The Second Encounter
AAAAAAAAAAAAA yourself
>>12106224For me it's Serious Sam 2, but I fw all Serious Sam games in general in some was (except 3 or 4 I haven't played those)
I love BFE as it is enjoyable prequel, 4 was a such a letdown, the encounters are very refined compared to 3, it has horrible optimization and not a fan of the upgrade system, limited co-op and no splitscreen and such
>>12106224Serious Sam First Encounter, Second Encounter, and 3 are my faves. I have yet to play 4 or Siberian Mayhem. Can anyone vouch for them being closer to the ones I listed, instead of being closer to 2?
>>12106224I'm glad to see some people liking Serious Sam. Very much enjoyed and part of my childhood.Tried to play it now in 4k, but it's not optimized...hooked up my old win 98 and played it though, about 6 years ago now and it's still great.
>walk backwards while shooting>walk backwards while shooting>walk backwards while shootingaw yeah, it's gaming time
they're all trash but i atleast respect 2 for being an honest corridor shooter instead of a dishonest retro fps where you have to hold w for miles between each combat encounter with those combat encounters hidden behind completely random triggers and armor bonuses
>>12106985>>12106997retarded opinion no matter how many times you post itprotip if you're using words like "dishonest" to describe the fun you didn't have with a video game, you don't have a real opinion.
>>12107001painkiller has bhopping and i'm sorry for you preferring a game for neurological cripples
>>12107003Settle down anon, someday you'll have a personality besides games tribalism.
>>12107005honestly, this board this deserves the sega system chad. i'm rooting for you sega system chad
>>12107008>admitting you're a shitposting psychoThanks for clarifying that, now we can filter and get back to discussing Serious Sam.
>>12106631>finally getting a chance to play 4 after i upgraded my PC>mfw the cringe humorSometimes it lands but mostly it's just grating. They really went overboard trying to give the game an action-movie style story. The restrictions on exploring the environement also feel a bit weird, but maybe that's just how the beginning of the game is.
I like simplistic games but I could never get into Serious Sam. Way too braindead and repeteitive.
>>12108184And your favorite games are...?
For me, it's Serious Sam: The Next encounter
More like Cringe Sam
>>12108756why is Jackie Chan on the cover?
I bought a Serious Sam bundle last Steam sale (that I assumed would get me 1 and 2) to finally get into the series, but I wasn't expecting this clusterfuck. What the fuck do I play?>Serious Sam 2>Serious Sam Classic: The First Encounter>Serious Sam Classic: The Second Encounter>Serious Sam Classics: Revolution>Serious Sam Fusion 2017 (beta)>Serious Sam HD: The First Encounter>Serious Sam HD: The Second Encounter
>>12108891What game doesn't have Jackie Chan?
>>12108917Kek TFE and TSE are the OG games. I’m pretty sure the HD ones are just upscaled versions of the first two games unless they come with some extra content I’m unaware of.
>>12108917It's even written in the title, bro. CLASSIC is the one you need first and foremost to get the real experience, after that, It's up to you if you want to play the same games in HD (Fusion 2017 is a launcher and collection of HD games and 3:BFE if you have it) and Revolution is more of a launcher for the classics with some graphical touch ups and extra community content, Serious Sam 2 is a completetly different beast so don't launch that after the First Encounter lol.>>12108804Get the fuck off this board we are discussing SERIOUS matters, young man.
>>12106736You can try this brother https://github.com/SamClassicPatchDrag and drop, open game, and check mods and launch it, i played with some friends online and we had a blast, and one of them was playing on a XP machine, i hope your 98 machine can run it
>>12109437Idk it runs great on my machine out of the box: i5-11gen something, 750 ti, 16 gb ram, im playing TFE Classic on steam (ik my gpu belongs in a museum im planning to upgrade to a 1080 or better in the foreseeable future so I can run Serious Sam 4)
>>12108182I agree, iirc one of the Talos Principle writers was participating on the project, I enjoyed some of the plot scenes and I liked the shoe dialog on that bossfight cutscene, but they kind went overboard with it, I hope the next Sam game is a direct sequel instead of a another prequel instead
I love Serious Sam but I think these games are more meant to be played in co-op mode.
>>12109463I love how older FPS games feels like festival when played with a big group of people
Some games are really fun with many people.
>>12109523Meant for:>>12109493
>>12109523Too bad Serious Sam servers are a ghost town even the Fusion 2017 ones, you gotta beg people to come join on Steam forums. But It was nice playing 2 other guys thru First Encounter HD from start to finish once.
>>12109532Yeah you need local friends that are into FPS games for that. Many games have dead communities. It's also more fun if you know the people.
>>12106631>>12106717I hate 3/BFE so muchStarting out your game with a parody of modern military shooters, where Sam is using an assault rifle that he has to reload whilst going through a ruined arabic warzone town? Sure, whatever, I can live with that, but to stretch that section out FOR FUCKING MULTIPLE MISSIONS just sucks dick, and the weapons of the game suffered for that decision
>>12110456And let's not forget that the Sniper Rifle and the Plasma Rifle are both hidden behind a secret, sure there's the devastator but come on man, the sniper was cool in TSE and 2.
>>12110459Both of them weren't intended to be in the game in the first place and were just thrown in as unbalanced secrets on fan-demand.Honestly, 3 is a much better VR game than flat one. Most of the shittier sections like all the underground stuff feel like as if they were actually made with it in mind, hence why they play so awkward. Not having to worry about things like reloading and sprinting also helps.
>>12109523damn that looks comfy ignoring the smell of course
>>12110456BFE has the best gameplay of them all, so it's worth going through the slower levels.Reloading is a non-issue, and sprinting should've always been in Serious Sam, since the levels are too massive otherwise.
While I prefer 90's shooters for their more labyrinthine/sandbox level design, I do appreciate serious sam's dedication to horde combat. Really fun in coop.
For me?It's bumping the trash down the catalog
>>12106224I liked TFE more. I don't know if I really have any good reasons other than some of the new stuff in TSE just feels a bit tacked on and uninspired. The levels are good enough though. Still very good game>>12109185Nah, no extra content. They aren't just upscaled though, they actually did put good work into them and redid the textures and added actual 3D backgrounds outside of the map that look nice. Better than 99% of remasters really. I still prefer the originals on a good ol' crt monitor, but.
>>12116339No.
>>12110456>>12110459I liked the DLC for 3 a lot more than the basegame.
>>12109532Back when people were actually doing co-op sessions, it was pretty fun (even got to play with members of Croteam when the HD remakes first launched)...minus the occasional speedrun fag that would ruin it for the rest of the group.
/vr/ serious sam co-op session when?
is serious sam 2 worth it?
>>12122616yes and no, it just got an anniversary update so im going to replay again it after 15 years. I remember liking some of the enemies and a couple bosses are cool. I still think the ending is a cop out but you play sam games for gameplay not story
I really like 2. The art style is ludicrous in a good way.
12118891Okay.
>From Earth With Love>an attempt to invoke memberberry TSE Grand Cathedral via a remix>except that they keep replacing the theme with calmer music whenever the battle ceases, wherein the final levels in the other games it's non-stop or an escalation
>>12122616>Renovation mod's graphical improvements>Insamnity mod's weapon/gameplay changesSmushing them together is a hard ask, tho.
>>12108756Is the PS2 version any good?
>>12124816No, it's awful. You should never have mentioned it because now you're the one that has to live with that suggestion. I'm kidding it's fine.
>>12108756>>12108891https://youtu.be/CoLs6_1ypWQ?si=el40OYjx8pwZK5S2
>>12121827Beats me
>>12120827Anon here, YES the speedrunners can suck a dick. There was one time in TSE:HD when I finally gathered 4 guys so we can play and one of them OOB'd and skipped the entire section in 5 minutes. Ruins the fun.
>>12127178Why did you post this
>>12125687Thanks
>enemies spawn from beyond your current play area>then they immediately get physically launched/catapulted into your play areaIs this still a thing in the nuSerious Sams? Or is it all just *mass teleports in front of u* now?
>>12108182>>12109443I've been replaying 4, and I'm shocked at how much I'm enjoying the dialogue. I think the only guy I could do without is Carter. Everything besides him is quite enjoyable. >>12106631BFE is my favorite. It definitely hit the sweet spot of humor and solemnity for me, and I like John J Dick's performance here the best. It's telling that 3 was written and directed by Alen Ladevac, who would leave Croteam prior to 4 releasing. I think people would have enjoyed 4 more if Ladevac had returned to direct/write.
>>12123329are you sure
>>12129730>Is this still a thing in the nuSerious Sams?Every mainline game does that, iirc
As a side note, Croteam has just released a digital art book for Serious Sam 2.https://steamcommunity.com/games/204340/announcements/detail/511846967442148994
>>12108917Just play Serious Sam Fusion 2017 (beta) which is the HD versions of classics combined into one, you also get mods from steam workshop that are still being released. The classics versions are for older hardware, and honestly I don't know why anyone would play them
>>12133792> I don't know why anyone would play themRetard.
>>12108917>>12133792Serious Sam Fusion is good, so are the classics. Gotta catch em all.
>>12133951Fusion is a broken mess with worse lighting in BFE because for some reason they decided to base it on the console version.
