Is it weird I think Moneybags is kinda based? It's not like Spyro was struggling to find gems and he was indirectly helping. If he wasn't doing it for money (like if he made Spyro do something for his benefit), he'd basically be an anti-hero, but the money element really bothers people for some reason. Especially as a conversation I just heard confirms he doesn't kidnap any of the jailed animals in Year of the Dragon. Spyro stealing the money back was unironically uncalled for.
Spyro doesn't take his money back until Moneybags tells him he's gonna go sell the last dragon egg for some gems, which is basically like holding a kidnapped baby for ransom.but yeah as a kid I always liked Moneybags in 2 and 3 because he was so hateable and whenever i would turn another corner and see him standing there I would go "oh god..." and get my wallet out.
I always intentionally tell him no at first just so I can hear all of his dialogue

In 3 Moneybags is more of an overt prick that you love to hate, and his lines are funnier, but there's something about the way his dialogue is written in 2. None of the characters in 2 really mention Moneybags until Elora does in the ending, but I get the sense that most people in Avalar don't tolerate his bullshit, and everybody basically just bludgeons past him until Spyro shows up and actually acquiesces to his demands, which he appreciates. In 3 he even says he left Avalar because he couldn't make any money after Spyro was gone. Beating his ass in 3 was totally justified though, he was trying to auction off an unborn child.

Even assuming dragons don't have traditional parents and all the babies are raised collectively by the community, they surely counted them all and would know if one was still missing.Reignited retconned it so that the dragons seen in 3 were guys rescued in the first game, but in the OG PSX version they were completely new ones. We don't know how many dragons are living there in totality, there could be women and other kids Spyro's age who existed offscreen. This is all assuming you even accept the "fairies deliver eggs like storks" lore at face value instead of the obvious kid-friendly explanation that it is. I'm sure the one dragoness who didn't get back the egg she carried and laid would be perfectly understanding when Spyro explained that he allowed a fat bear to sell it.
