6th gen Mortal Kombat games are underrated
They have their rightful place in history.OK and sometimes fun.

I like how the characters had more baggy outfits and thick bodies. Very welcome change from the anorexic MK4 character designs.
that's when the series turned into generic fantasy with whacky haha tone. I prefer it over the super serious generic fantasy tone of modern games but it still sucks. digitized sprites, specific movie influences and a healthy dose of humor made originals special.

>>12108681I never really understand ideas of shark jumping with MK, they're common for different periods but I don't really get any of them. Aesthetics do change starting with three, and a little bit each game after, but overall I feel MK has always had its own vibe until very recently Like DA is still mostly steeped in a quasi oriental basis, combined with a lot of Western movie cliches and concepts like mixing in gothic dungeons and themes of Hell etc, you could argue this really began with MK2, and as far as wacky humor goes MK3 is still the peak of that with the most comical fatalities, friendships, animalities, characters being introduced as jokes like Rain, etc. At that point, only the very first game was mostly void of non martial arts influence or intentional humor, and even then the roots were there with Cage being pretty goofy and a clear Van Damme homage having the Bloodsport nut punch, Scorpion basically being a rip of Marvels Ghost Rider with the flaming skull, Kano having a cyborg eye inspired by Terminator etc etc
