The last thing the original cast worked on while they were all still alive was never released and likely will never be seen again. I find that really sad.
>>12110746Feels bad man. Any Trek fan owes it to themselves to play 25th Anniversary and Judgment Rites
>>12110791The TNG adventure game (A final Unitiy) isn't bad either.I used to make wrong warps in all these games just to play the starship combat.
>>12110746It's sad. Cancelled in '99, the same year we got Gabriel Knight 3 and Grim Fandango the year before, both also expensive adventure games at a time when people were losing interest in the genre.
>>12110746Is there no possibility of releasing what exists of this game?>>12110791>>1211079625th, JR, and Final Unity are not just great trek games but great games, period. Very playable today, with great storylines. What’s sad is Star Trek almost totally abandoned the adventure genre around this time, except for those lackluster ds9 games (were they even adventure?).
>>12111486>25th, JR, and Final Unity are not just great trek games but great games, periodVery true. I wish someone would rip the assets and voices and train an ai on them to produce 7 random missions per season.
>>12111486>Is there no possibility of releasing what exists of this game? Not officially. I'm sure it would be a legal nightmare sorting out the rights to all their likenesses again. It would have to be leaked and whatever slime has it obviously doesn't feel like doing that.
I feel this way about Babylon 5: Into the Fire
>>12110746If I never had to see anything related to Star Trek faggotry ever again, I would be overjoyed.
>>12112334Nice blogpost, ensign
>>12111486>Is there no possibility of releasing what exists of this game? There wasn't a lot made. The script got partially recycled into a TNG episode, though. The one with hunt for an ancient Vulcan superweapon that kills via telepathy.
>>12112996Better than being a complete loss I suppose.
>>12112996Ok, that makes me feel better. That was a just ok seventh season two-parter, which wasn’t really very exciting or well-written. OTOH, some of the 25th and JR missions would’ve made incredible Trek episodes>demon worldEspecially.8gk8a
>>12114302I imagine the original script was probably better with DC Fontana writing it herself, rather than TNG writers cannibalizing bits and TNG-ifying them. But hey, at least the ideas made their way out of the dead game.
>The actor who played Scotty, James Doohan, is dead. He passed away on July 20, 2005>Leonard Nimoy is dead. The actor, best known for playing Mr. Spock in Star Trek, died on February 27, 2015wtf
Is this the worst Star Trek games with a solid presentation at the time? What were they thinking?
>>12110746Man, Deforest Kelly died right during production
>>12114434Only Shatner, Takei and Koenig are left.
>>12115068I enjoyed the C64 version well enough. It was a little weird, but felt playable.
>>12115068Uhura looks only SLIGHTLY darker than everyone else.>>12115148>TakeiSAD!
The ship is drafty and damp. I complain but... nobody listens.
>>12115295>Uhura looks only SLIGHTLY darker than everyone else.what is a palette
>>12114302Can’t wait to catch up to that part and keep it in mind when it comes up. I’m in season 2 now. It’s like the series was in a different galaxy and aliens gave it to us compared to the slop they put out now days which isn’t just a parody it’s as if the ‘creators’ actively hate Star Trek and try and produce the worst possible versions they could conceive. Saw some episodes growing up live but it wasn’t until I had a strict schedule that I watched the entire series straight on USA in early 2000 while working at GameStop. What would you say is your favorite Trek game? I have 25th Ann. And Judgement Rites and one other one I got from GoG for free or like a dollar. Any suggestions on where to start? Recently beat Elite Force and love that game but couldn’t bring myself to play the 2nd one for some reason, it’s just missing something. Not even sure if Elite Force 2 is even retro.
How would you fix it?
>>12118490Wrong thread?Pinball is thataway >>12116327
>>12117431Halfway through s2 is when it starts to get good, 3-4 are the high points, though 5 is also great. 6 -7 have good episodes but less consistent. You’ll find out for yourself.>favorite trek gameDefinitely 25th anniversary or final unity. They capture Star Trek perfectly. Start with 25th, it’s not super hard, but solving the problems in each episode is fun.>elite force 2Worth playing and is retro, to my knowledge.
>>12117431play star trek armada 1 and 2
>>12120156I’ll check out reviews see if it’s my jam
>>12119252I enjoyed s1 way more this time around than any times previously. It’s severely over hated, I thought it was great. Once I get my computer back cleaned and hooked back up I’ll have to fire up 25th. Maybe this will motivate me to do it. Good to know elite force 2 is retro… why does it feel so hollow from the beginning though. Maybe I’ll watch a first level play through. Also, am I crazy, or does the ps2 version of elite force, which I played waaaaay back in the day after starting work at GameStop and seeing Star Trek + voyager (I personally love voyager watched all the seasons w my dad live) + quake?? Oh hell yeah, have you explore the w entire ship between levels like a hub? Because that’s how I remembered it but the pc version doesn’t let you do that. I think it’s either at the end of the game or a separate part of the game. I recently got a copy of it on ps2 I just need to run back through it again. Any excuse to play such an awesome game.
>>12121382>s1Some definitely bad episodes, but mostly it feels incongruent with later seasons because so many of the episodes were scripts adapted from unmade TOS episodes or the proposed Phase 2 show in the mid-70s.>elite force 2Not sure, but I think it feels different from the first one because it’s using a different engine or something. The missions are more story- and event-driven vs ef1. It feels a little like the trek version of avp2.>25thYou can’t go wrong with wrong it or judgment rites or a final unity. The GOG versions of the games are all fine, just updates of the cd-rom versions. The voice acting is kind of weak, but at least it’s really the cast. I like that GOG includes a pdf of the manual and the cluebook (if you must use it). You need the star chart in the manual, though.
>>12110746I will say, from what footage we got, it's actually quite amazing how much they managed to get the 3D models to look like the actors did in the 60s. That must've been expensive as fuck for 98.
>>12121675People may shit on it now, but even just seeing that for the first time, I think it looks great. Add in it’s from 98 and I could see this being either really expensive or they had access to the tech from a parent company or something. >>12121649I’m in season 2 about halfway and I haven’t felt that about s1 (I had heard a lot of it ((s1)) is tos scripts that didn’t make it because it got cancelled) maybe it’s because they drop Beverly and make one other change I can’t think of right now that was pretty big and I’m adjusting to those changes. I’ll def keep it in mind when watching now tho. Thanks for the recommends. I have the three gog ones because, why not? So I def need to dive in asap.
>>12121885>Add in it’s from 98 and I could see this being either really expensive or they had access to the tech from a parent company or something. It was ludicrously expensive, and they were basically inventing new tech. It's part of why it crashed and burned, the ambitions of the folks in charge were way high, and kept getting higher while the people doing the work struggled to get some thing functional. They showed a demo, but the demo was smoke and mirrors because the actual game wasn't running yet. But yeah, the 3d modelling and capture techniques they were using made it look amazing.
>>12121885>>12121914I mean just look at ithttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NYO6EEbntYISure there's kind of an uncanny valley effect with the faces but holy shit, no one was even close to this even in the biggest budget games.>maybe it’s because they drop BeverlyThey didn't drop Gates McFadden, she left because one of the writers (Maurice Hurley) was sexually harassing her as well as just being a giant asshole to her in general, and she refused to come back until he was gone, which he was after season 2.
>>12121957Ah yea that’s right. I did look it up when I started S2 weeks ago and what an asshole. Glad they got rid of him but I bet he ended up somewhere else doing worse things to women knowing Hollywood. I’ll check out the video. So sad they didn’t finish this would’ve been a nice apology for Star Trek V (even though I do enjoy large parts of that movie).
>>12121675For 98, that is great. Having a ton of reference footage helps for sure.
>>12122160Star Trek VI was the apology for Star Trek V
>>12124031Well they couldn’t leave the films on that note so they slashed the money for Undiscovered Country, even though it is a really good movie. Really none of the movies caught the OG cast like Wrath of Khan did imo. Maybe IV, but I personally never enjoyed that one. People love it but Star Trek on earth, in the past, is not something I want to see outside the occasional episode in a 24 episode season, that’s fine… but for a motion picture meh. I do need to watch it again, I haven’t seen it in adulthood.
>>12118528Oops don't mind me just being retarded
>>12110746my understanding is that they kept rebooting production and never made it past the 'tech demo' stage, then timed out by losing the license. a lot of those screenshots, therefore, look like mock-ups (much like the dragon screenshot in quake 1 photos). wouldn't be the first time that ads had 'screenshots' that weren't in the proposed game itself.
>>12124031Undiscovered Country is an "okay" movie with some really dumb parts but it sticks the landing in the finale as we saw goodbye to the cast.>>12124681Voyage Home is really fun.
>>12124681Hard disagreement with everything you wrote, but whatever, this isn’t /tv/.>>12125943That unfortunately does sound plausible, I’ve been fooled a number of times by that in the past.
>>12126345>some really dumb parts?
>>12126349The prison planet shit, for one
>>12126352What’s stupid about it?
