>go to friend's house for retro gaming night
>he has the worst fucking setup ever
Do you stick it out or do you turn around and go home?
>>
>>12111631
Why is it up so high?
>>
>>12111656
looks like otherwise it would block the doors and they have some monster-designed house that has no other place for a tv
>>
>>12111663
Don’t defend being retarded. There’s 2 other walls to this room that aren’t visible.
>>
>>12111631
Maybe it's because i'm older now but whenever I try to play games on my TV it becomes uncomfortable very quickly
Huge TVs aren't good for games
>>
>>12111673
They're fine if you mount them at a reasonable height, but most people put them 1ft-2ft above their couch's headrest and then strain their necks looking at it.
OP's example is obviously ridiculous, but it's a real problem.
>>
I stick it out because he's my friend.
>>
>>12111631
burn down his house with him in it
>>
>>12111695
Why are you friends with an incredibly stupid person?
>>
>>12111656
It's to recreate the feeling of being a little kid straining your neck playing the demo kiosks at stores.
>>
>>12111656
It's clearly not the living room, and there's toys and other console stuff on the shelf below.
So I'm guessing it's a rec room/finished basement, and his wife decided his old video games should go there instead of anywhere sensible.
>>
>>12111631
i'll stay, but only if the beer and chips are free.
>>
>>12111631
Tell him you're going to take the tv down and put it in a better spot, rearrange the whole room just cause it's game night so he doesn't feel retarded. Then tell him afterwards and he won't feel so stupid as long as you're laughing at him and calling him a dumbass like a bro.
>>
>>12111709
I'm not OP that's in this situation.
>>
>>12111631
Stick it out. Demand a neck massage after I kick his ass at Smash Bros.
>>
>>12111631
I gut myself in front of him with a blunt knife and spell "fix your fucking setup" in my blood on the floor before dying, permanently, forever.
>>
>>12111631
We used to do a game night with our friends where one of us would try to beat a game in an evening while the rest of us got drunk and watched. Anyway one night I drew DKC 2 at my bud’s place. It was original hardware but on his widescreen tv. It looked like shit and there was major input lag. I toughed it out and managed to beat it. One of my prouder gamer moments.
>>
>>12111631
For this exact reason I bring EVERYTHING with me when I go to visit my old friends. Controllers, laptop, extension cords and extended usb cables, all of it. Everything pre-configured and ready to go in a matter of 2 minutes or less. I don't touch any of their set-up at all.
I'm working on a future set-up using a 30" monitor mounted in a suitcase with all the other stuff packed in the other side.
>>
>>12111852
You sound like a huge fucking nerd
>>
>>12111631
Give them a hug and tell them you understand. "My kids can't understand, don't play ball in the house, either."

Here's a rough idea of what I want to build.
I could use a 4:3 monitor, but I'm not really up to paying the $300 for a Unico monitor, and I've not heard great reviews about them anyway.
>>
>>12111856
I am a huge fucking nerd.

>>

You say it like it's a bad thing
>>
I set up retroarch for a friend while I visited him, made it all "idiotproof". He called me later because it wasn't working and I had to walk his girlfriend through fixing it over the phone and it took 4 times as long because they didn't listen to a step I suggested early on and said they did it.
He's my best friend, love him like a brother, but damn.
>>
>>12111856
Holy shit, a nerd on a retro games board, stop the presses.
>>
>>12111986
It's insane how retarded some people are when using computers.
You write an entire step by step guide and they'll complain it doesn't work. And when try to find the problem it turns out they randomly decided to skip one or multiple steps.
>>
>>12111709
dumb people are fun to be around. It's better to be around smart people in a professional or networking setting, and dumb people for de-stressing.
>>
I have a pretty high tolerance for shit. The one thing that's a dealbreaker is high input lag. Not retro but I used to play a lot of dnf duel with a friend of mine, and that game on ps4 is legit unplayable cause its got something like 7 frames of input delay.
>>
>>12112034
Depends.
It's better to be around smart people who are inebriated than dumb people who are wasted.
>>
>>12111920
Speakers?

no, i'm not a faggot
>>
>>12111852
>I don't touch any of their set-up at all.
I don't get it. So you don't actually play vidya with them? Or you force them to play on your portable little setup?
Seems hyper-autistic regardless and I can't imagine your friends prefer it this way.
>>
>>12112061
Maybe there's like a loft at the level of the upper landing of that staircase, behind the camera, and the TV is meant to be watched from up there.
>>
>>12111631
I drink his beer and hang out with him but I'm not looking up at that shit.
>>
>>12111714
You think Op's picture is of a basement?

It's easy to believe you're a third world monkey who is only guessing what a basement is from village folktales told by the rare brown who stepped inside a White domicile without being shot or arrested
>>
>>12112276
So you've really never seen a finished basement.
>>
>>12112287
No basements are 2 stories tall with vaulted ceilings, little dude. That's the first floor.
You can even see the kitchen off to the right.
>>
>>12112298
That looks like a kitchen to you?
Did you grow up in a college dorm?
>>
>>12111714
it's obviously a townhouse
>>
>>12112307
Lol are you the same nigger who forgot that the room has 2 more walls off camera?

OH I get it, you are not able to comprehend that things continue to exist even if you can't directly see them. So you don't understand that light to the right is coming from a larger room behind that corner.

Sorry for your condition.
>>
>>12112317
For someone who was likely born on campus, you sure don't seem very smart.
>>
Assuming that this is somehow an extremely unusual basement with 20 foot high ceilings, how does this change the stupidity of the tv placement?

Those stairs do not go two stories. They cut away the floor and combined the floor and basement. In other words a finished basement.

What I think it is is that this isn't supposed to be an actual TV; this looks like a McMansion so it's probably for daytime/granda television to have on in the background while you have your other upper middle class accountant friends over and not actually watch it.
The guy pictured is the CPA of the house's son that uses it to play games because he doesn't have a TV of his own in his bedroom.

My next best guess is that it's meant to be a rec room TV that the kids can watch but not touch, so dad can set something playing and then leave with the remote and they can't do anything. It looks like there's a child behind the man in the picture.

>>12112942
I appreciate that you tried, but this is some pretty insane ESL posting. Rich people don't have random television screens all over their house, that's more like something a bunch of college students renting a house together would do.
>>
I tell him to grab his controllers and come to my place with a projector displaying an image at shoulder level. but first I tell him that redditors are making fun of him on r/TVTooHigh
>>
>>12111631
What did you expect? A whole set of PVMs, consoles in mint condition with box on display, a complete set of games of your favorite console also in mint condition, cib and on display, a kiosk installed on the corner just so you can simulate being a child again...
Grow the fuck up!
I bet these people who play on shitty setups have more fun than your autistic and exigent sorry ass.
>>
>>12113571
>it's a real sub
Skimming through it and redditors are as faggy as ever, but it's also kind of funny since TVs mounted too high is a huge bugbear of mine and it's way too fucking common.
>>
Man, I'm getting upset and uncomfortable looking at that picture. I don't know if I am gonna be able to rationally participate in this thread. Fuck dawg, like come on with that shit. What are you doing.
>>
>>12112124
>Or you force them to play on your portable little setup?
Yes, because my set-up is vastly superior to what they have.
>>
>>12111631
The TV is at that level, so that people standing on the staircase can see it clearly.
>>
why didnt your friend put the tv a little higher though, lets say 10 more meters up the wall?
>>
>>12112003
>And when try to find the problem it turns out they randomly decided to skip one or multiple steps.
Or they've fucked with some random setting that no-one would normally touch, and repeatedly fail to mention said fucking with setting even when you explicitly ask them.

He's giving it a try, so I'd stay and maybe he will become a real retro gamer. Split screen is cool but I'd like to do that old LAN thing with retro pc's for stuff like Quake and Command and Conquer. Almost forgot you could link up 2 ps1's. I think the last time I didn't anything like this was when Gamecube was current.

>>
>>12111631
the quick and dirty solution here is to have a smaller TV that fits on the shelf between those two doors. it looks like there's maybe a bit over two feet of space between them, you could easily fit a smaller size TV in that space. smaller screens might be shittier in general but it's still going to be a much better experience than whatever this bullshit is, plus it's offset by the fact that it's closer to your face so it'll appear larger.
>>
>>12111856
Buddy everyone here is a huge fucking nerd and loser. It's a retro games board. Everyone has some flavor of autism and it shows.

>>

>>
>>12114247
keep telling yourself that
>>
>go to friend's house for retro gaming night
>he asks you to bang his wife

>>
>>12111709
Better question is why would someone be friends with a faggot who bitches and moans about his set up, there seems to be a kid next to him, so the fact that he enjoys gaming with his kids and invite friends over to play puts him above the fuckton of non gamers who only complain and plastic hoarders.
>>
>>12111663
Why even mount the thing to begin with? Those things are light and easy to move.
>>
>>12111987
Ya but this dude has a suitcase full of nerd magic and plans of grander.

>>
>>12111631
>N64 stretched out on a flatscreen
It's bad enough they have it mounted up high, but even if they didn't this would still annoy the shit out of me. N64 is about the worst console you can hook to a flatscreen, even if some games have 16:9 modes. The output just looks like eye cancer.
>>12114508
It does look kinda institutional, come to think of it.
>>
>>12114579
>N64 is about the worst console you can hook to a flatscreen
only one truly worse imo is the PS2 thanks to 480i deinterlacing hell.
>>
>>12113994
ayy lmao
>>
>>12111631
I mean, if I had friends who wanted to play retro games, I'd just set up an emulator on my PC and slap on a CRT filter. I'm kind of in the middle between the idiots who use LCD screens and the purists who need their CRT and original hardware. Emulation has gotten pretty good in the past few years, and even a lot of classic games have been ported well (e.g., Otogi 2 and Panzer Dragoon Orta remasters were pretty good... however Klonoa remaster is shit).
>>
>>12114270
That's how it started for Hulk Hogan. He went over to Bubba The Love Sponge's house to play Golden Eye and Wave Race. Yadda yadda yadda and Gawker gets shut down. So be careful.
