>goes from being an amazing must-have to completely irrelevant trash in less than a year
HISHOUZANREKKUZANMUKUROWARIAAAAA IKUZEHYAKKI MOSSHUKEN
That's the power of Soul Edge
Was there ever really a solid following for this game?
>>12116381It was just one of the early games for the system, so they used it a lot to advertise the console and had one of female characters be a sorta mascot.
>>12115483I remember thinking the PC game FX Fighter was really good, look up a video of it and its just laughable
>>12115483>Virtua Fighter>Virtua Fighter>Virtua Fighter>Virtua FighterDamn was that sega game really such a big deal back then
>>12116462Bro even a couple years after release, seeing the Virtua Fighter cab still had this intimidating aura about it.
>>12116462It was the first proper 3D fighter, of course other games were going to be compared to it.And also the reason why Toshinden was any deal at all was that there barely were any other games like it other than VF.
>>12115483Blame takara for releasing 9 games between 1995 and 1996 in psx, saturn, gameboy and dos.Once Virtua fighter 2, tekken 2 and souldblade were out, everybody forgot about toshinden series.
>>12116651Even when it first came out vf2 and tekken 1 were both already out in arcades and both were obviously going to be ported to home consoles so I doubt any Japanese were fooled
It's not a bad gameThere should be a reboot with graphics that more closely resembles the character designs
>>12115483It's amazing how fast things advanced
>>12116763Wait, Kayin had baggy pants? Also Tracy became whiter with each subsequent game.
>>12115483I still like it
>>12116389the series had a dwindling fanbase but it wasn't a small one either. Toshinden 2 was a highly anticipated release, as ridiculous as it sounds today. people really wanted to believe it would build on the original like Tekken 2 did.
>>12115483This series fell off so hard that 4 didn't even come stateside
>>12115483>>12116763It's because Toshinden was the Double Dragon to Sould Edge's Final Fight
>>12116763I don't think I've ever seen this. it looks really goodI have vague memories of toshinden being "fake" japanese, because the "anime" portraits and stuff were so ugly, but the wiki says it's japanese. hmmthis american cover, though. jesus. it's even worse than I remembered
whenever I think of toshinden, I always think of this cringy ass ad
>>12115483GP had such a fucking hard on for this game. This was also the peak of their “2D sucks” mindset. Really embarrassing in retrospect.
>>12117585you left sofia hanging
>>12117585Ellis was way hotter than Sofia.
>>12116763The only memorable aspect is the Obari-esque style and Ellis being the semi-loli character due to the transparent pants. Also I kinda like her amazonian yells in English Toshinden 3.
>>12116763dude legs lmao
>>12117585>cringeyou mean based as hell
>>12117404>>12119395Tsukasa Kotobuki, perhaps more well known for being the character designer of Saber Marionette J, and the artist people actually are thinking of when they meme "melting 90s anime face".
>>12119490You meant cringe as hell, stupid kid
>>12119493is her PS1 fighting game any good?
>>12119526>Licensed game made around 95-97Nope
>>12115483Reviewers at the time were way too occupied by the polygonal graphics than they were with the actual gameplay mechanics. Toshinden 1 was also rushed out the door, Sony really needed some kind of VF killer on day one and Tekken 1 wouldn't be out to mog the shit out of it until next year.
>>12116462The first game came out when fighting games were still at their peak and people were getting used to Street Fighter reusing older assets. Virtua Fighter 2 was an even bigger deal because now it played good too, and it became the standard for both 3D fighters and 3D graphics. Took Namco three whole games before they finally got as good as that.
>>12120340>Sony really needed some kind of VF killer on day one and Tekken 1 wouldn't be out to mog the shit out of it until next yearTekken 1 actually came out only two months later on PS1 in the US>Toshinden PS1 USA: September 9, 1995>Tekken PS1 USA: November 8, 1995But Tekken 1 wasn't that incredible. Tekken 2 was the first one to absolutely mog everything
