>A bar near me has a bunch of new pinball games.
>Balls get stuck on shit constantly.
And the real kicker is when the machine finally figures out that the ball is stuck it doesn't refund you the ball it just counts it as a loss
Holy moly did they just forget how to make these things.

hot take but this is the most overrated 90s pin.

Pinball isn't as profitable anymore as it used to be, at the same time I think a certain amount of knowhow has lapsed because they don't need to be electromechanical fuckboxes anymore, a lot of the really complicated stuff can just be done with basic electronics now, which maybe also lowered the bar for entry.
Probably also started cuttiing corners because they wanted to make it even cheaper.

I personally love it, and in all honesty despite it's lukewarm reception, it's honestly one of my top 5 games, maybe top 3 even. The layout is relatively basic with just 2 ramps, 2 holes, and one orbit with a bumper bank, a boatload of standup+drop targets, and pop-up mechs(like the trolls in medieval madness), but the game's code makes a LOT of creative decisions with what it has. The rules are pretty easy to understand and are always visible on the display, and it isn't too difficult or time-consuming to reach one of the 3 main wizard modes. It's also a multiball-heavy game but IMO not too overwhelming or chaotic if set properly. I don't particularly like the Hobbit movies, but the theme integration in the pin is one of the best that I've ever experienced. All of the book modes(the standard missions), smaug multiball, and the wizard modes are tailored to the scenes they depict with the shots, targets, and pop-ups mirroring the premise of each scene. Lastly, my personal favorite feature is how involved smaug multiball and the wizard modes are. They have multiple stages that advance their respective scenes and eventually culminate into a climactic finish with a victory lap session if all scenes are completed.

I think you caught him anon
>>
>>12116331
How is it? I've hear it's quite repetetitive and the only fun part is the "jump" with the top ramp.
>>
>>12120183
How "bad" are you?
My advice:
>control the ball (e.g. cradle it with a flipper and send it where you want)
>learn the rules of the game you're playing
>learn the live saving moves (slap shots, nudges, etc.)

When I was a kid, the local bowling alley had an Addam's Family, and Funhouse tabes. Both of those pins take me back to spending hours on a friday after school, sucking down 50 cent cherry colas, 1 dollar baskets of fries, and plowing through the rest of my allowance on the arcade.

Pic not related, just more of the 1UP bar.

If you go back to Colorado make the drive out to Lyons Classic Pinball, iirc it’s about 1.5 hours from Denver, maybe 2. It’s in a comfy little town outside of Boulder. Amazing selection and most importantly all the machines are maintained and in great condition. It’s just pins, no barcade bs and the selection is top-tier. I used to go there during the week when it was mostly empty and dump like $40 into Twilight Zone, Medieval Madness, Circus Voltaire, Scared Stiff, World Cup 94, Mars Attacks, and Safe Cracker to name a few. Feels like a dream now, that place is incredible. I haven’t been there since like 2014 but it’s still open according to Google.

>Lyons
turns out thier website has a walkthrough of the establishment. Looks like fun! idk if I'm going to get out that way anytime soon. Thankfully, there are pinball places around where I live.

The 1Up in particular had an effect on me, cause it was the first place like that I had ever visited. Barcades were still kind of a novelty in 2013, it didn't have the soiboys and marked up craft beer that tastes like pinecone resin like they have now. Just people nostalgic for a time in your life that you could blow all your money on junk food and gaming with friends.
