>another day>another night of looking at my retro games list only to fire up Helldivers 2 and go on autopilotCan anyone help me? What advice do you have for getting me out of mindless gaming routines and playing retro again?
>What advice do you have for getting me out of mindless gaming routines and playing retro again?>>>/wsr/
>>12117906Don't play any game for two weeks, then play retro only for a while.Congrats, you can now play retro.
>>12117906>Helldivers 2Is t that the faggot game for queers, also not retro. Just stop pretending you like retro games. They're not for everyone and I wish more people would figure that out instead of trying to bandwagon the fad.
if you actually liked retro games you wouldn't need to force yourself to play them
>>12117938>Is t that the faggot game for queers,Takes one to know one, I guess.
>Muffdivers 2 - mission clitical
>>12117938>the fad>of playing retro video gamesImagine unironically believing this, holy shit. You are one gigantic fucking loser if you believe anyone thinks playing old video games is "hip".
>>12117906you should do what you want to doand quite obviously you want to be a giant faggot right now, maybe in another 10 years you can play cool retro games with vr
>>12118004It's trendy currently to:>watch youtube essays about retro videogames>spend thousands of dollars on overpriced retro videogamesIt is not however trendy to play retro videogames
>>12117938Zoomers make fun of old games more than they respect or "Bandwagon" on them.
>>12117906pack up your PC and hand it off for a service check. you should be reasonably lucid by the time it's back
>>12118015it's even trendier to bitch about le ebil youtube watching zomners instead of playing retro video games
>>12117906>how to rile up /vr/>ask for advice on /vr/ gaming
>>12117906Don't bother, old video games are dogshit and only nostalgia-blinded manchildren care about them.
>>12117946I actually force myself to play all games.
I play old video games as part of a monastic lifestyle. Especially hard games, because they cultivate important qualities like patience and grit.
>>12117946>>12117906Its probably this. You arr likely just trying to play retro to escape the expensive new games rather than actually being interested in retro.Maybe try to replay a retro game you enjoyed unless you are a millennial then a generational game.Maybe you are a console gamer so try to play it on one (Be it legit or emu console). If that doesn't help, maybe retro isnt for you.
I've never even heard of Helldivers 2 until this thread, let alone the first Helldiver. I looked it up and apparently it's sold over 15 million copies. Apparently I live under a rock so maybe OP should try that.
>>12117938>>12117946>>12118162Zoomers, I swear, they're all fucking illiterate.>Can anyone help me? What advice do you have for getting me out of mindless gaming routines and playing retro again?>playing retro AGAIN>he used to, but doesn't anymore>“again” is key word, but some geniuses in the replies clearly missed it>implying he has never played retro before>implying he wants to become some enlightened retro messiah like the larpers on this board>implying his post says “I want to get into retro gaming for the first time”>implying he’s not just trying to escape his monotonous loop of modern online garbage>mfw people can’t parse the simplest English sentence>mfw i'm surrounded by esl turbo-wetbacks who just hopped the border and get a computer and internet on US welfare and are shitting up my retro board>mfw grammar and syntax are apparently rocket science to them>mfw someone says “if you actually liked retro games you wouldn’t need to force yourself to play them”>implying nostalgia and habit are mutually exclusive concepts>implying humans are logical robots rather than flawed creatures with routines>mplying “playing retro AGAIN” = “never played it before”>mfw I realize these people skim, assume, and immediately judge>implying subtlety, nuance, and context are foreign languages to them>implying reading comprehension is a lost art>kevin just wants to break the cycle of grinding, not lecture you about authenticity>mfw he’s being mocked by people who literally cannot read a single line correctly>mfw the internet is forever doomed
>>12118246You spent all that time typing that when you could've been playing Streets of Rage
>>12117906Unironically play Atari. It's gonna be difficult for a few minutes but once you get into the groove of the game, you'll be cured.
>>12118248I don't need any advice, I just finished Sword of Fargoal 2 days ago.
>>12118246Its clear you rather be a zombie than play retro games.Just embrace your zombie self.
>>12118253Seething cope.>>12118251
>>12118254But did you enjoy it?
>>12117906Make a list of a dozen or so games you have an inkling you'd like to check out one day. Not your must plays. Things you are slightly more than middling on. Each day select one of those at random. Random as in, roll a dice or something. Then play whatever you randomly selected for at least an hour. Assuming you didn't pick something that's dog shit you'll probably want to keep going after the hour. You might even want to go back to it the next day. And just like that, gaming is born and the cycle is broken.
>>12117906dude just do it, it's extremely simple, just DO it instead of not doing it
>>12117906It helped me to concentrate on one game and hyping me up for it. Do things like: >watching 1 or 2 commercials for it on YouTube. >Download a PDF of the manual (or maybe you got the original manual)>Reading articles about it from back in the day>Don't read or watch anything else regarding the game. No YouTube essay shit. The problem is your habit of going the easy route by playing the things your brains knows. Just jump into the cold water.Another thing is: don't drop that game. Try to push through it no matter what... And like I said, focus on ONE game. Multiple games kill your drive for it.
>>12118427JUST....DO IT
>>12119223I miss this little nigga. Did he get drafted?
>>12119223Also this is probably the best advice ITT and mirrors how I got myself back into retro vidya. I make sure I'm committed to finishing what I start and usually have no more than 3 going at a time (1 or 2 pick-up-and-plays and 1 big game like an rpg etc.)
>>12117906I don’t care about your faggot life. Post your blog somewhere else.
>>12117906Pick a game and start playing it.
>>12117906If you're gaming on autopilot maybe you should take a break for a while, playing retro games on autopilot would be just as boringOnly play if you're having fun, don't try to turn into those guys who say "I beat 80 retro games last year", just focus on games/genres you like when you do decide to start playing againHonestly I barely game nowadays, the only games I played in the past few months are some of my old favorites like SMW, DKC1 and Umihara Kawase. I'm in a difficult time in life but if things get better I might try to play Super Metroid again at some point (I only beat it once like 15 years ago and don't remember much, should be fun to play like it was my first time)
>>12117938Yes.
>>12118186First one was fun. Idk why they had to make the sequel a faggy GaaS shit.
>>12119580The first one was a weird top down shooter with aesthetics for men in arrested development who liked underage boys.
>>12117938>>12117946>>12118004>>12118008>>12118015>>12118253>nu/vr/>>12118246>>12119223>>12119269>>12119372>old-/vr/
>>12119580You can unlock everything in it without paying for anything extra.
>>12119597>>12119701Second one is always online homo shit, so first wins by default.
>>12119750>super metroid is homo shitWow, I actually agree.
>>12119580First one sucked gay nigger donkey dicks. Second one has far superior gunplay and far more satisfying kills.
>>12117906I would personally try and pick a genre you particularly like. Then, I would try and find a game with an art style you are fond of in that genre, with gameplay that looks interesting. Then just play it. If it helps, pick a more recent retro title, from like the 5th or 6th gen, and then move backwards, if that's your goal. Once you complete a game or two from the newer gens, try playing a game from a gen further back.
>>12119845Back to /v/ with your shit
>>12119258No, he still makes videos. He uploaded one two weeks ago. He stopped making Dendy Chronicles though, and I don't think any of his new videos get subtitled.
>>12118246indeed my friend, indeed. i thought people would become smarter as time went by, but really we just shed all ounce of innocence and whimsy from our online habits, and snap-judgements embroiled in hatred is all that anyone cares to share any more.the internet world is a miserable place, and the happy people have locked themselves away from this deluge of disgusting behavior.
>>12118246succinct
>>12119901all your suffering is based on shattered preconceptions.this is people.the internet didn't do this, it exposed it.what you should do is accept that you lived within illusions.
>>12120145this is dumb people, maybe. i suppose the internet used to be iq-locked
>>12119648Meh
>>12119864nah, he's right. Helldivers 2 is better in every conceivable way.
>>12119881I think he knows his international appeal lies with the Dendy exoticism.
>>12117906play Outwars (1998), its like Helldivers
>>12117906You just moved on from old gameplay mechanics and graphics.
>>12117906Have a serious answer:- set up a proper front-end, with videos and descriptions so old games look visually appealing instead of just roms files sitting in a folder- play some modern indie games influenced by retro games, they might be more easy to get into but good ones will make you want to go back to the sources- find some good retro channels or resources like hc101 where it's fun to browse around obscure games and find something that looks interesting- if you're a nostalgic boomer go find archives of your childhood gaming mags, they're still fun to browse- same with reading manuals, getting a notepad and drawing your own maps etc can be fun to go back to this style of experiences- try to do challenge runs like 1CCs of arcade games- try genres you never played before- you don't have to go full 8bits, play some ps2 era and just vary your gaming habits more, you'll have more fun and it'll be easier to go back to earlier generations- get into a series you find interesting or a dev catalogue and try to work your way through- look up mods and rom hacks of classics you love
Bruh you'll get bored of Helldivers one day and the retro games will still be there.
>>12123503cool, I will
I might as well just ask: What's the better operating system for games up to DX9, XP or 7?
>>12117906anon how about you control yourself for once, pick a retro game and just play it?
