I’ve been playing as many racing games as I can on ps1 for two months. I beat most of them when I was younger too. R4 was really cool vibes but man is it easy. I played it after I cleared rage racer and I just blew through R4. I enjoyed rage racer much more, just felt like I had to work for it. If you were into playing time trials for months tho I could see how R4 could be cool. It’s definitely got THAT nostalgic thing that hits. I just started chocobo racing and I’m like halfway through gran turismo. I found a copy of that Nissan skyline memorial game in the wild this month, just some thrift store. I’m looking for Peak performance and others in that series they were so good.

You have to finish the sequence of races X-Y-Z in different combinations of 1st 2nd 3rd in order to unlock more stuff beyond the ones you get by finishing 1st 1st 1st etc. So in other words, you kind of need an excel spreadsheet to keep track of the finish combinations AND for each manufacturer and each team. For this reason alone, I'd rather play Rage Racer even if it does get grindy.
