It's easy to forget retro games were made by real people that are sometimes reachable. Ever tried directly(via email, etc) talking to someone that was involved in the making of a game you liked? Any luck?I recently found out the director of a really obscure retro game I love has an active Twitter so I'm considering writing him something maybe with a few questions(will have to use Google translate to japanese but still).Idk, even if there's no reply there will come a time when the people that made something you love will pass away so perhaps it's still worth the chance of having them read your message while they are still with us, no?[Pic is just the creator of pokemon, obviously I'm not trying to speak with a reclusive billionaire]
>>12120023What kind of monitor is that displaying Pokemon Blue on Super Gameboy on top right? Also Eraserhead, based.
>>12120037Idk but here's the uncropped version
>the creator of Pokemon looks like a pedoIt all makes sense now
>>12120023So this is another "content farming" thread for your video essays? You're looking for reports of interesting developers that answer emails so that you can put them in your videos? Well, that's a good idea, actually. Interviews are way better than just reciting wikipedia plus whatever you milked out of threads here.
>>12120023Why does Taijiri look SEA?
>>12120075Ainu genetics
>>12120080Yeah that's what I thought too
>>12120070Dude jesus christ wtf, I'm just sharing an experience and seeing how other "peers" might relate to it.By all means don't name the dev you may have engaged with if you're scared it will be hicjacked for content. Not that unsourced anonymous accounts have much journalistic merit anyway
>>12120023I'm not a Japanese game developer, but I suspect they'd rather have you message them in English and Google Translate it themselves then have you send some borderline incomprehensible pre-Google translated nonsense. Maybe I'm wrong. I don't know.
>>12120104this is universal. nobody wants to read machine translated gibberish and everyone would rather send it through deepl or google themselves
>>12120058He's just a little autistic
>>12120070Meds
>>12120037>Also Eraserhead, based.Came here to say this
>>12120091Once again, the idea was that you were seeking information about notable devs who respond to emails so that you could set up interviews with them. And I think that would be pretty interesting! I've never tried to contact a gamedev, but if there is some video essayist lurking here, I hope something usable does get posted here. >>12120252You don't think a lot of threads on this board are future low-effort video essays? "What are some games that really pushed the limits of XYZ console?" kinds of things. It's a more and more frequent problem.
>>12120080>>12120087Probably Jomon, but the Ainu are also descended from them anyway.
I've met two guys in person who were instrumental in a game that I like. Was pretty cool, they're both pretty nice and had interesting stories to tell. You can meet a lot of older game devs if you go to cons and elsewhere on the west coast. Many of them never moved away from California or Washington.
>>12120037Looks like an LCD PVM / pro monitor of some sort. They're pretty cheap now but the one I bought to play around with was super laggy. Great color for video though.
I think that people should interview Steve Race while he's still alive.>vice president of marketing and communications for Atari's International Division>one of the consultants for Sega of America, brought in by Tom Kalinske to try and dethrone Nintendo>first president of Sony Computer Entertainment of America>star of his very personal moment, the infamous $299 single-word announcement at E3 1995>co-creator of Polygon Man>left Sony to be CEO of Spectrum HoloByte

I should track down the artist from a forgotten jrpg and beg for him to send me scans of all its concept/promo art. I found a few lose pieces on gaming magazines but no doubt more was made and never released anywhere and it upsets that they might get lost forever
>>12120023I love MediEvil and I found that Jason Wilson the art director had a twitter.-I once messaged him to ask him about my favorite level at that time, the Freakshow from Medievil 2. He said he didn't work on that one.-He liked old movies and I did too.-I once realized that some of the posts of him selling Medievil stuff made here, he made them himself. He outed himself, because when I said: "he's asking for a lead position, why should they give it to him?"And someone said: "he's had experience you know."-I was quite disappointed to learn that he was a leftie, I hope this part is not off topic. When many lefties left twitter for blueksy (when Trump was elected) he did too.
>>12120751>-I once realized that some of the posts of him selling Medievil stuff made here, he made them himself.>He outed himself, because when I said: "he's asking for a lead position, why should they give it to him?">And someone said: "he's had experience you know."I'm confused
>>12120850The post was not like: "hey, the medievil art guy is selling Medievil pre-production stuff."The post was the link to the twitter post with a horror movie image. I think the image was the tar man from return of the living dead.

I saw rob pardo from blizzard(in person) but I didn't wanna be a bother so I didn't really tell him anything
I once asked Kamiya something about the lore of Okami and he replied, cool guy. It's funny when people just don't follow his basic Twitter rules: just don't ask repeated questions. He treats Twitter as a game, and normies believe he's mad when he blocks people or calls them insects lmao. He's just a player.
>>12120104>>12120110I'm pretty sure Hideki Kamiya blocks anyone that talks to him in english/not in japanese. Or at least he used to
>>12120420I don't know how you're able to function in life
>>12121989clearly you're confused about a lot of things
>>12122604He's not the only one. Seriously, what does your day look like? It's fascinating what kind of thoughts you boomer manchildren have. Video-essay, lmao. Even if that would be true why can't you be happy other people like the same things you like? Instead you are rambling like a schizo. Take your meds. I think I'll make a video essay about bitter old people who are too retarded to function properly
>>12120070
>>12122814I don't think he was yelling but hey I got another idea instead
>>12120023>It's easy to forget retro games were made by real people that are sometimes reachable. You should see a doctor about that.
>>12120091>meritI was going to say anon was being paranoid but the fact that zoomers co-opted this word reveals the truth in anon's words and the leech in front of our eyes.
>>12120023Not the creator of a game but, I found out recently that the gut who hosts Zophar's domain interviewed the maker of the ZSNES the other day:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iG-oqvj4TqkIt's very informative and the back and forth is nice between the two. Really comfy interview
>>12123859Is that a treadmill.. in front of a computer?
>>12120023Eraserhead on laser disc. Fucking bad ass.
>>12123869I think you're right. I didn't notice that at all. Huh. Guess he's always on the clock.
>>12123875I was going to make a snarky comment but I'll refrain because Zophar is based for one thing: hosting NES music in .nsf format, unlike all the retards out there who do it in VIDEO format on youtube, turning mere kbs in hundreds of mbs always seemed so ridiculous to me.
>>12120023Most early game devs have long since left the industry. That's how shitty it is
>>12120023I don't want to talk to the people who pirated my games and then post reviews on them running on emulators trying to be pretentious hyper critical twats grifting for youube gibs off the back of my work. I'd rather just watch them die in excruciating pain.
>>12123869It's a pretty normal silicon valley kind of thing.
>>12120075The average Japanese looks Sea
>>12120091>Not that unsourced anonymous accounts have much journalistic merit anywayNice cope
>>12124406adhd fortress.. being pumped the daily news while treadin' and millin' and developin' up the next manmade horror in ai across 4 screens..
>>12124442They're probably supposed to be quants because it looks like they've got CNBC on the TV. Two of the four screens at each workstation might just be a Bloomberg terminal.
I know someone who worked on banjo kazooie but I don't even like that game so whatever
>>12125235You cared enough to remember that special someone. You should go get married.
>>12120023My ex-boyfriend is probably the greatest Ecco the Dolphin fan in the world and he DMd back and forth the creator of the game. He wasn't so much asking questions as he was pouring his heart out
>>12120058You mean he looks Indian.
