holy based!
happy birthday to the greatest GTA game!
>>
>>12120263
HBD. I still need to play 3 all the way through, I was too shit to finish it as a kid. Did beat VC and SA though.
>>
Damn I just played through all of GTA III and Vice City over the past week. I know PC is the preferred way but for me it will always be the PS2 versions (Vice City's uncensored first print)
>>
>>12120329
I personally find the PC versions to be easier and less frustrating to play. The control is just far better.
Otherwise, the PS2 versions are great simply for the soul.
>>
Best atmosphere out of any GTA and the most arcadey feeling 3D entry. One of the greatest games ever and that's coming from someone who plays Japanese games almost exclusively, happy birthday
>>
>>12120335
Personally I feel like the mouse aiming makes the games TOO easy. The janky PS2 controls force you to be a little more strategic with the shooting rather than going full Tony Montana-mode.
>>
>>12120349
>Personally I feel like the mouse aiming makes the games TOO easy
NTA and I agree but honestly I feel like it's just more fun that way, sort of how the Wii version of RE4 is the most fun one to actually play

I agree with both of these but flying felt impossible compared to the console set up
>>
>>12120450
You can tell who played the PC or console version of VC when they say Demolition Man is one of the hardest missions
>>
>>12120457
>>12120450
I didnt have a problem with the helicopters. The planes were pretty hard. Had a problem with the porno mission for the movie business. In San Andreas I had alof problems with the final military plane missions. Took me like 4 days to beat em lmao. I hoped on a old san andreas Xbox file and had no problems flying around at all. Very hard oj the pc for me. Everything else felt way better, driving combat all that stuff
>>
>>12120460
Yeah the flight controls in SA are not made for keyboard, as a teenager playing that version I did this whole custom setup with the numpad to make things just right and it took me a long time to get good at it, but I did and ended up getting very good.

Then years later I play it on console and it's actually really easy lol.

Imagine paying $10 for a sandwich when you can buy a whole loaf of bread and a bunch of ingredients for cheaper. It's like people want to be poor and stupid on purpose.

>run around exploring every inch of the map trying to find all 100 hidden packages
>hidden packages actually helped because every 10 you got a new item spawned in front of your safe house
>drive around looking for specific cars to bring back to the car garage which then let you get that car from the garage any time
>finding and doing all the unique jumps
>trying to complete all the kill sprees which gave you infinite ammo for whatever weapon while you did it meaning you could have fun right at the start of the game doing them
>constantly trying to find new stats for the missions and trying to do them faster
>learning how to fly the dodo and then trying to fly to the secret island place
>doing ambulance, cop car, firetruck, taxi missions
>going on a rampage around the map trying to survive for as long as possible
>using cheats to go on a rampage forever or spawn in tanks
>standing on top of a car and then shooting the car so the person driving sped up and then shooting random pedestrians and pursuing cop cars
>driving around in the rain listening to the radio
>exploring all the parts of the map where you could get up on top of buildings or the subway tracks and see interesting things

gta3 was really the high point of the series and a lot of the stuff it had got worse in the ones that followed like the packages in san andreas were way worse and just generally in any game after 3 there was a lot less to do unless you played the story. you could still do some stuff, but it just generally wasn't as exciting to explore around and nothing really felt as lived in.
>>
>>12120494
Even as a kid stumbling across your first rampage and you're given say, a flame thrower and told to kill 25 diablos it's a lot of fun. Of course you'll probably kill yourself but it sparks the imagination.
>>
>>12120470
Its like damn near impossible to fly for me in gta sa on pc. Its crazy how much harder it is on pc lmao
>>
>>12120520
I just treat either the numpad or IJKL as my second stick and it takes just a minute to get used to
>>

For less than the cost of a Big Mac, fries and a Coke, you can buy a loaf of fresh bread and some good cheese or roast beef, which you will enjoy much more.

Get a Costco membership. You can get crazy good deals like a 25lb bag of jasmine rice for $23. That's 100 cups of rice, and a cup cooked is enough for ~2 people, so figure about 200 servings in that one bag. Then you can get huge bags of frozen veggies for $9, and stuff like 24 drumsticks of chicken for $8. Personally I buy the $5 rotisserie chickens that are fucking fat and juicy as shit and just freeze a bunch of them and either reheat them whole or shred them up and use them for sandwiches and stuff. If you're frugal and you know how to cook, you can eat a gourmet meal every night with relatively little work and for literal pennies a day.

3 was great. i found vc disappointing. they added a bunch of bullshit but the core gameplay just felt so off. i never even finished sa. pretty much just the same problems as vc. quantity over quality. who the fuck cares about swimming and having 9001 square miles of wilderness? 3 was the perfect size

What is the best way to play GTA III on a PC today? Should I use the original release or the reverse-engineered project?
>>
>>12121530
PCSX2
>>
Speaking of GTA games, what does /vr/ think of the Futurama mod for Hit & Run?
>>
>>12121697
That's cool, but port it to consoles it would be even cooler.
>>
>>12121516
They spawn after Sayonara Salvatore.
Interestingly, during missions requiring you to return to Portland (Uzi Rider, Espresso-2-Go!), the shotgun guys are disabled
>>
>>12121782
I think that's only in the later reissues of the game/patched versions. The original PS2 PAL and US releases for sure have you dealing with shotgun mafia making espresso-2-go particularly difficult. I prefer it being challenging that's like the mission to show your mastery of map navigation.

They never had shotguns during Espresso-2-Go in any version.
There was a bug in the EU 1.40 PS2 release that forgot to remove their shotguns if you completed Sayonara Salvatore before Big N' Veiny, but was fixed afterward.

>standing on top of a car and then shooting the car so the person driving sped up and then shooting random pedestrians and pursuing cop cars
My friends and I called it "safari." I could spend hours leisurely riding around town on the hood of someone's car, shooting at pedestrians and trying not to spook my driver.

Of course, eventually he'd drive by someone that tries to attack me and then speed off, leaving me on foot and surrounded by gang members.
>>
>>12121512
>still havent managed to steal a tank to this day
The easiest way to steal "live" tanks IMO is near the Pay-n-Spray behind the parking garage in Staunton Island.

>make sure you have plenty of molotovs
>park car halfway out of the Pay-n-Spray
>summon army
If you position yourself correctly, the tanks will bonk into the wall next to the ramp and won't drive up the ramp toward the Pay-n-Spray because they're trying to drive toward you. Try to get the tank to drive into the corner of the ramp and the second level, then get the soldiers to exit the tank. Toss a couple molotovs over the edge, and the soldiers will all catch fire and die. It can be tricky because if you use too many molotovs, the tank will catch fire and explode. You might need to use the Pay-n-Spray a couple times, but you should be able to get rid of all the soldiers without your wanted level getting high enough to summon the FBI.

Then you can just stroll down the ramp, get into the tank (it will give you a wanted star), and cruise over to your safehouse on the other side of the alley.

Of course you can get free tanks for completing the Arms Shortage mission for Ray's army buddy, but it's more rewarding to steal them from soldiers.
