My dreamcast finally came in the mail and I'm super happy with it, spent the past hour swapping the PSU and giving it a good clean. I've currently got the game that came with it, not sure what it is, and a copy of sonic adventure 1. I am waiting for my copy of sonic adventure 2 that's showing up next week, I got super lucky and found one that still came with the 10th year anniversary CD and coin.other then those what other games can you recommend I try out? I'm open to anything!
>>12120952I luv the Dreamcast, glad you're excited cause it's a top 3 console imo. If it's a model 1 Dreamcast you should be able to burn (compressed) games to a CD as well; I recommend these games:>De La Jet Set Radio>Cosmic Smash>Bangai-O>Tokyo Xtreme Racer 2>Cannon Spike>ChuChu Rocket>Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2 (much better graphics than the PS1 version!)
>crazy taxi 1 and 2>under defeat>jet set radio but be prepared to be disappointed>sega marine fishing >border down >bangaio>tokyo xtreme racer>cosmic smash
>>12120967im not sure how to check what model it is, I bought it from japan tho so do any of those games have either an english option or can just be understood without needing to read anything?
>>12120973>im not sure how to check what model it isSince it's a Japanese unit, it won't have the handy sticker underneath denoting which revision it is. That said, the Dreamcast was discontinued only a few months after MIL-CD incompatible models started being produced, so nearly every Dreamcast (especially in Japan) will play burnt .CDI images. I say play a burn and see if it works. An archive of .CDI images is here:https://archive.org/download/DreamcastSelfBoot>I bought it from japan tho so do any of those games have either an english option or can just be understood without needing to read anything? Some of those games like THPS2 don't even have a Japanese release, and the console is region-locked.
>>12120982ah that is a shame, I was considering burning a CD of utopia so I could play region locked games, if I try that will I be able to play them in english?
>>12120989Yeah, you can play burns from other regions no problem! Back when I still had my Dreamcast, I played a burn of the leaked Half-Life (USA) beta on my Aussie console.
>>12120994dang nice! wish i did find an aussie region dreamcast tho, would make finding games easier but its whatever, i only really cared about SA1 + SA2 and they both have english settings so it's fine
>>12120996>i only really cared about SA1 + SA2 and they both have english settings so it's fineThe original Japanese version of SA1 doesn't, but the 1999 "Sonic Adventure International" rerelease does, which has all the changes from the western version.
>>12121003yeah I got that one, I'm pretty sure SA2 has english as well
>>12120952get the fishing rod controller and play sega bass fishing
>>12120952Just burn the whole library to CD-Rs dumbass
>>12120952GDEmu
>>12121194yeah well I'm asking which ones are worth burning idiot, I'm not gonna go burn the whole library
>>12120952Sonc two so you wanna impress the gamecube?
>>12120952Ikaruga>>12120973Check the bottom. it should have a circled number somewhere below the barcode. (0) and (1) are okay, (2) is a cost reduced model that can't run backups and can't run ODEs either.
>>12121250its a Japanese model, doesn't have that number anywhere
>>12121216Rippin' Riders though I was a kid last time I played it so maybe it's crap
>>12121291thanks I'll try it out!
>>12120952check out some of the other color variations for the controller. They didn't age into off-yellow like the white ones. The see-through ones are cool. Some of my favorites are already listed I'll put them anyway.Crazy Taxi 1/2Power Stone 1/2Sonic Adventure 1/2Tony Hawk 1/2Tokyo Xtreme Racer 2Grandia 2Skies of ArcadiaMarvel Vs Capcom 1/2Shenue 1/2D2 (Don't try to burn this one to CD-R it's a mess)Seven MansionsNapple TaleLegacy of Cain Soul ReaverDino CrisisRecord of Lodoss War
check out the homebrew scene too. noiz2sa is a pretty cool homebrew shooter
Do dreamcast emulators show the vmu?
>>12120982>Since it's a Japanese unit, it won't have the handy sticker underneath denoting which revision it isYes it will. Japanese Dreamcasts have a number beginning with 670-1 on their sticker. You can tell which revision you have from that.https://retrosales.com.au/blogs/retro-gaming-news/which-model-dreamcast-plays-burned-games
>>12120952Sword of the Berserk: Guts' Rage. There's also a retranslation of the jap version available now.
>>12120952Hey all OP again! I got my HDMI adapter (Kaico) and have been having some fun playing SA1 but it is a bit jagged and doesn't really look all that different from the DX version on steam, not sure if thats a HDMI issue or I just havent seen the DX edition in a while, everything is also really bright and shiny but its whatever, having a bunch of fun with it!
I would suggest trying the games that can't be properly emulated yet like picrel
>>12123335I've found dreamcast to look really jagged on most 1080p or higher TVs or monitors. I picked up an older dell monitor from 2009 with vga cheap at a thrift store and it looked leagues better than any other solution I tried. I'm sure an old CRT monitor is even better.
Seaman>Seaman?Yes, Seaman. It's the definitive trapped-on-Dreamcast-but-must-be-experienced title. It's not "for" everyone, but I think everyone should give it a try at least once.
>>12120952Armada is a legit hidden gem I remember I got a Dreamcast and Armada and Soul Cal and both had serious frame rate issues; turns out my Dreamcast had a defective video card so I had to wait 3ish weeks for a replacement from Sega
>>12124427Mic hasn't been emulated.
>>12125089And…? Anon sourced an actual DC, it's in the OP. No one brought up emulation.
>>12125204he's gonna need to source a mic too then
>>12120952you fell for a meme
>>12125689dumb frogposter
>>12125689what meme? I wanted a dreamcast so I bought one
>>12120952drop everything and play Dynamite Cop
Napple Tale: Arsia in Daydream
>>12120952
>>12127416A lot of these "exclusives" weren't exclusives at all even back in 2015 when the image was made, and there's only been more ports since.
>>12120952>the game that came with it, not sure what it isIt's a baseball game, part of Konami's Power Pro series.https://segaretro.org/Jikkyou_Powerful_Pro_Yakyuu_Dreamcast_Edition
>>12127442So what? Just because they were ported to other systems doesn't mean the port is better.
>>12127472Yeah, and none of those "exclusives" are superior on Dreamcast except for De La Jet Set Radio.
>>12127494Crazy Taxi 2 and Soulcalibur are best on Dreamcast. Not that you played them, so you wouldn't know.
>>12127536>Soulcalibur>best on DreamcastNah, not without anisotropic filtering.
>>12120952>spent the past hour swapping the PSUWhat is it about Dreamcast and PSUs? Overall, I've never played it but I think it is a cool console, didn't know there were so many exclusives like >>12127416 and >>12127442
>>12125089Yes it has. Sounds like everyones Dreamcast emulation experience is a decade out of date and nobody in here has used Flycast.
>>12127547the PSU the dreamcast uses isn't the best, it gets super hot and just could be better. also It's a japanese PSU so it's made for 110V or something, I forget if its watts or volts, anyway australia uses 240V/W so if I plugged it in with the stock PSU it would probably destroy the console, this just lets the console run on the australian standard
>>12127539Is this bait?
>>12127573>Sounds like everyones Dreamcast emulation experience is a decade out of dateStock standard on this board. Retards think emulation is inherently and automatically a thing where games just ontologically cannot work okay because they think ZSNES is necessarily what all emulation is, they think Project64 is necessarily what all emulation is, they think Yabause is necessarily what all emulation is, and they think a 12yo version of PCSX2 is necessarily what all emulation is because they refuse to fucking download a recent release.
>>12127472Dreamcast still has the most accurate NAOMI ports.
>>12127539>everything already unlocked>no intro cinematicNope, Dreamcast version is still better.
>>12120952A spiritual sequel to Die by the Sword, which was a good game in its own right. Only ever came out on the Dreamcast.
>>12125761Am I missing something with this game? Everyone praises it, but it just feels completely shallow and boring to me
>>12120952OP here again, this is the 10th anniversary edition I got with SA2, anyone know how rare this is? are anything about it?
>>12129835It's not super rare but it's nice. I prefer this side of the medallion
>>12127442Oh my god shut up. *fats in your mouth*
>>12120952All of them. They're all free :D
>>12127442The sovl can only be attainable on the 'cast
OP here, one last time, wanted to show off my final dreamcast collection! I'm super happy with it! I'll probably find some more games in the future but for now I'm content!
>>12131667What in the shovelware
>>12131676i wouldn't really call it shovelware, i still think its cool even if it is tho!
