I don't really get itThe night time atmosphere is super comfy, but otherwise I just don't get itI'm a complete newfag to racing games though
Tokyo Xtreme Racer 3 is where it actually gets good. Up till then you're just racing on one track (1) with really bad crash physics.
>>12121164I just hate how 3 nerfed the top end of performance.>Cars struggle to exceed 750 PS>Without engine swaps, only one car can reliably hit the in-game speed cap>The in-game speed cap is much lower
>>12121147the racing is pretty lame you need to enjoy grinding and tuning autismMSR and vanishing point are the real kings of dreamcast racers
>>12121205>MSR and vanishing pointBoth are trash
>>12121147>I'm a complete newfag to racing games thoughNo reason to play this boring gook slop. Play NFS instead.
>>12121237well yeah but the dreamcast has pretty slim pickings for a king
game is great just get used to the grindalso PROFESSOR ROBLEDO
>>12121254
>>12121331This is cool and all, but I think you need a wheel to really enjoy this game.
>dude I dont get how actual street racing is fun>like what why arent there giant icons all over my screen telling me what place im in and where to go XD
>>12121147What the other anon said. Drop this troon trash and play the underground games if you want a taste of actual good street racing.
>>12121393I don't think underground games represent actual street racing that well
>>12121396Fuck what you think! They did represent it infinitely better than tokyo highway simulator and they also bothered to be actually fun to play.
>>12121393>troon?
>>12121412No it didn't, illegal street racing in the west were just drag races. Expressway racing teams was a real thing in Japan.
>>12121147They should be much shorter games and implement some kind of roguelike mode with variable parameters (traffic, rain, tyres for the night, upgrades etc), crashes also should be more punishable to enforce good driving.Shame the new game was just a boring rehash
>>12121147These games are super niche, they appeal to a very specific kind of person. The main appeal of these games is finding a car you like and tuning it to perfection while meeting weird characters on the way. For a similar but far more accessible game try the Fast and Furious game. Alternatively, the TXR Drift games focus on mountain pass racing more than highway racing, it's quite different but keeps the tuning aspect.
>>12121147It's feudal Japan in car form.
lmfao It's for ironicfags, you aren't missing anything
>>12122790>ironicfagsWhat did he mean by this?
>>12122919>yeah bro I like Japan but not like the cute stuff bro I'm into night racing bro like a manThose kinds of faggots
>>12121336>but I think you need a wheel to really enjoy this gameDreamcast wheel lacks of FFB. Is enjoyable with a gamepad. Play it.
>>12121147You have to enjoy diving a 90s jap shitbox at night on a highway illuminated by sodium lights.
>>12123027I'm sorry they laughed at your girl cartoons, anon
>>12123027mfw i make up enemies to be mad at
>>12121147>I don't really get itmeans you don't have the weeb virus and probably even had sex. weebs would play farming simulators if it was made in japan
>>12123228No, I'm a massive weeb and virgin, I just don't get Tokyo Xtreme. I like some other racers like Ridge Racer
I once played txr 0 and it got me thinking just wtf were the devs smoking because the cars handle so bad you cant drive get the car to drive straight after taking a corner for the physics are so shit its unreal. Secondly my car took ages to accelerate to any competitive speed but at that moment I was already being smoked by any other dude past the few first rolling guys. So then I thought maybe things will sort out once I upgrade my car but power or handling upgrades did absolutely nothing. One guy said that my starter car pick was some of the worst and I gotta manually tune gear ratios and yet again I was thinking wtf is this shit its an arcade racer so you would expect these things to work by themselves like in any other racer everI like the idea behind the game but never have I played racing game with this kind of jank
>>12123027Oh you're retarded, carry on.
>>12123221>mfw I have no face
>>12123332PS2 txr has worse physics engine than DC i read
>>12121147Why would you choose that shit as your beginner racing game? What a fucking hipster. Fucking zoomers, man
>>12121147>The night time atmosphere is super comfy, but otherwise I just don't get itIf you are appreciating the atmosphere then you've already "gotten it." Besides the tuning autism the other anon mentioned there's not much else in this game that's going to open up to you to change your mind about it. It's definitely a B-tier game and it felt like that at the time as well, but it's charming enough. If you want more of this vibe check out Racing Lagoon, which is mediocre at best but also dripping in atmosphere.
3 would easily be the best in the series if not for those fucking yellow vans
>>12124621What the fuck are you gibbering about?
>>12121147Its the best. It filters casuals on multiple levels. Don't know how to drive a car? Too bad.Don't know how to set up a car? Too bad.Expecting instant gratification and don't want to learn and fulfill Wanderer conditions? Too bad.
>>12121237>MSR>trashI'm going to break your legs
Where do these obnoxious faggots come from?
>>12121498So it's the videogame adaptation of the first fast and furious
>>12124793You know, from your ass. All it takes is a small push.
>>12123332Picking anything other than a Class A car in Zero is a trap, unless you're on NG+.
>>12121205i enjoyed vanishing point but i wouldnt put it up there at the top. txr2, msr, and sega gt are the kings of "modern-style" DC racers, imo. TXR is basically the best you're gonna get in terms of customization in pre-nfsu era
