Just finished it 101%(even the stuff that isn't required)and was surprised how manageable it actually was after hearing nothing but complaints for years. Outside of 2 levels where by the end after collecting everything else I was randomly missing a couple Diddy Kong colored bananas and had to wander around for like half an hour, I found actually collecting everything to be pretty reasonable and fun. I still wouldn't say it's amazing, best 3D platformer on the system is still Banjo 1, but I think it's one of the better ones from the era. If it had more personality I'd easily say it's better than Banjo Tooie.

20 hours to complete a 3D platformer probably is a bit much to ask for and there definitely is some pacing issues but idk man once I accepted I was in for the long haul it went down pretty smooth. You really hit your stride once you finally get all the Kongs and catch up on the ability unlocks. The warp pads really help and there are character change stations all over the place. I actually think that mod that lets you change Kongs on the fly would really ruin some of the game design, theres plenty of great build up and pay off that comes from having to use the change barrels. Probably would be nice for a replay though. The bosses and minecart levels were a real highlight and the graphics are incredible for the system. I even liked the shitty minigames. The hate for this game has been blown far out of proportion and I think it's about time it gets reevaluated.

The changing kong mod it's like the flashlight duck tape mod for Doom 3, it trivializes the game. Aside one mini game and the beetle, the game is far from annoying. I would say I didn't like Gloomy Galleon and Crystal Caves, both mostly water based levels and Lanky's section in the final boss was the worst.

All the nintendo agmes of that era were made simple because they were for small children and kid friendly for the same reason and primarily abound reenforcing their stable brands in the minds of minors.

>the graphics are incredible for the system.
N64 graphics even in the era are meh because of it's intrinsic limitations and the disasterous decision to base it around overpriced carts with a 64MB storage capacity when everything else was on 650MB optical discs

What a bunch of nonsense

people were disappointed with how few DKC gameplay mechanics carried over moreso than they hated the game for what it was. it was actually quite liked at the time, not as much as SM64 or Banjo but it had an overall good reception.

The weirdest thing about this game to me is the vibe. DKC 1 and 2 were "cool" and this seemed more kiddie. Especially with the WEEELLLLL DONE shit after a bonus. If they gameplay is good that shouldn't matter though, but it def made kid me think it was gay.

It's reputation was a mix of its overwhelming feeling with the collectables and that spread like a wildfire. To be honest I was in the same camp as a kid since I had a hard time with them in the later levels, but then again I was a terrible player. I beat it this year after a long time and that feeling of overwhelm was gone.

Based! I can't stand the people who recommend the change anywhere mod.
>but I see a red banana and I can't get it! I need to get it RIGHT NOW
Learn how to route the game and get it when you come back to the room as Diddy you dumbass idiot retards. The satisfaction of the game comes when all of the collectibles just line up perfectly because of the route you selected. Yes, even the "out of the way" collectibles can be satisfyingly picked up, simply because you remembered seeing a collectible you couldn't grab earlier, and you took that into account as you were planning the route for your next kong.

I still maintain that the best way to play is one kong per session.

I've 101%'d once and like 90%'d it another time (didn't have the patience for Beaver Bother in Creepy Castle and ended up forgetting about the game). I love the charm and it was cool to get a chill DK game, it was a nice change of pace from the trilogy but I get why people didn't like that kind of departure. I have memories playing this game during harsh winters outside. Very comfy.

They're not going to reevaluate. If they've decided it sucks, nothing you can say or do will change that.

This game and achievement hunting are used to diagnose people with autism.
