Were the Oedipal undertones deliberate to invoke an uncanny unease the whole time? The story is fine and I don't care to rank it in any metric, but it did seem to take itself a bit more somber like the PS1 era Resident Evils did. I miss the essentially 2weapon gameplay which were as deep as a safe harbor. I didn't care for E&I as a kid but now that I'm a lonely man, all this wrist & tricep action can be put to good use, and button mashing might just become a relic of the past in the future.

I think Sugimura just didn't know how to write anything that wasn't strictly in his tokusatsu wheelhouse and forgot how much dynamics change when the protagonist is a grown man with a mortgage and job, and Kamiya's revisions probably only made it worse.
