Were the Oedipal undertones deliberate to invoke an uncanny unease the whole time?

The story is fine and I don't care to rank it in any metric, but it did seem to take itself a bit more somber like the PS1 era Resident Evils did.

I miss the essentially 2weapon gameplay which were as deep as a safe harbor. I didn't care for E&I as a kid but now that I'm a lonely man, all this wrist & tricep action can be put to good use, and button mashing might just become a relic of the past in the future.

Extremely gnostic and satanic game

I think Sugimura just didn't know how to write anything that wasn't strictly in his tokusatsu wheelhouse and forgot how much dynamics change when the protagonist is a grown man with a mortgage and job, and Kamiya's revisions probably only made it worse.

Your spiritual power is mine featuring Dante from Devil May Cry

It's one the nose, yeah.
But if we look one step beyond, could be about the evolution of the anima (the way a man relates to women, how he perceives them.
Or what he understands as female, or feminine.)

So Trish starts evil, then practically dies, but then comes back as ally.
Her resembling Dante's mom is obviously mother complex stuff.

It's fast and easy to say Oedipus complex, because it's not wrong entirely, but there's more to it.
That's just the beginning.

If you search "Marie Louise von Franz mother complex" on youtube, you're in for a rabbit hole deep dive.

I really like the somber atmosphere of the first game.

>Oedipal undertones
I don't remember Dante being interested in Trish that way nor much of the opposite in the first game but I guess it's a bit odd to have someone with your mother's face dressed like that to give you a quest to save the world from the demon overlord after beating you up.

I'm pretty sure they got that from Blade. He didn't show interest in Karen either but the scene with him feeding on her was still obviously sexual.

They didn't really show much in game but the OST has a lot of sexual/romantic titles for tracks

Do you think Dante want to fuck his mom?

I'd rather not think about it thanks
