It took me three months to figure out how to use Duckstation because I didn't realize the BIOS was a separate thing from .cue and .bin files

What's your iQ test result OP
>>
>>12124870
I tested at 133 when I was in school but then I spent 10 years doing drugs, getting head injuries, and depression maxxing.
>>
>>12124885
133 in dog years
>>
>>12124885
You probably took one of those shitty free online tests. I scored 145 on one of those, and I am DEFINITELY not 145 IQ lmao.
>>
>>12124832
You must be at least 26 years old to post here.
>>
>>12124885
Let me guess, you were probably shocked the first time you met someone IRL who even knew what emulation was, so you made all kinds of dumbass assumptions and mistakes. Being high iq in a middle-class or lower environment is basically nightmare difficulty, and almost all of us make poor life choices to cope with having too many negative experiences to relate to the rich high-iqs and too much thinking power to tolerate the other poors without being intoxicated. I emulated for 10 years before I met anyone else who had ever used an emulator. My poor friends all thought I was some master computer hacker who could hack anything to run on anything because they had no idea how computers worked, and most of them had never had anything newer than a OS/2 machine or C64.

On the bright side though, you end up with encyclopedic knowledge of all the good sports games on Sega Consoles.
>>
>>12124914
you're not high IQ, you're just autistic
>>
>>12124916
You forgot to brag about not reading the post, anti-capitalization-and-punctuation-kun.
>>
>>12124921
i assume normal people use their limited brain capacity for practical skills like cooking and homesteading and foraging and camping and driving and car maintenance and finance managment and not how to launch a rom file
>>
>>12124896
No. I tested twice around the same age, once through a school program and once through a psychologist. It's nothing to brag about. It's the equivalent of the uncle who could have gone pro if he didn't bust his knee. It's probably lower now because I actively damaged brain for a decade.

>>12124905
I'm 30

>>12124914
I'm just dumb as shit with anything remotely technical. My normie ex used to handle tech stuff for me. I did grow up super poor and became really depressed and stopped doing anything remotely healthy for my mind in my early 20s. Just consooming and getting wasted. And I got concussed at least three times.
>>
And then you wanted to.... tell /vr/??
>>
>>12124947
Thought it would get a laugh. And I needed to confess my retardation to someone.
>>
>>12124952
>>12124832
I just use ePSXe
>>
>>12124929
only 2, possibly 3 of those are practical

hope you get a refund from the masculinity grifting substack you copied that from
>>
>>12124832
don't worry OP i was a kid once too.
>>
>>12124832
A lot of software operations issues can be pretty arbitrary if you don't know how to troubleshoot.
I run into similar issues all the time and I keep trying, I'm much more tech literate than I was years ago and I still have a long way to go
>>
>>12124832
I'm surprised it still requires a BIOS dump in the first place. I thought the PCSX-Redux guys should've come with the open-source replacement already, if not full HLE.
I was pleasantly surprised when it correctly recognized the PSX BIOS that I got from my PSP, though.

>The retail PlayStation BIOS code is a constellation of bugs and bad design. It is very obvious the code has been written hastily, likely by different teams having little to no communication with each other, under heavy time pressure. The fact that the retail console boots at all is nothing short of a miracle. Half of the provided libc in the A0 table is buggy. The BIOS code is barely able to initialize the CD-Rom, and read the game's binary off of it to boot it; anything beyond that will be crippled with bugs. And this only is viable if you respect a very strict method to create your CD-Rom. The memory card and gamepad code is a steaming-hot heap of human excrement. The provided GPU stubs are inefficient at best. The only sane thing that any software running on the PlayStation ought to do is to immediately disable interrupts, and then trash the whole memory to install its own code. Anything from the retail code is virtually useless, and shouldn't be relied upon. That being said, doing so will prevent tools from functioning properly, like cheat software, unirom, or even emulators that are sniffing the kernel to do debugging and reporting.

Live and learn anon. now get ready to figure out what dithering and interlacing mean and various other terms that confuse you at first glance.
>>
>>12125292
I had only emulated 3rd and 4th gen before and used ePSXe and whatever the N64 emulator is. In all of these you just had to load the "ROM" for the game itself. It didn't help that all the guides I looked up barely touched on the BIOS so I ended up just looking up BIOS for "specific game I wanted" and then couldn't understand why the .bin file wasn't working. I concede that something went terribly wrong and I should have been able to figure this out in less than half a dozen attempts spread across a quarter of a year.
>>
>>12125307
you tried to tim allen that shit and fucked up. it happens to everyone.

How? Just how? I am not trying to be elitist or a snob but Duckstation literally guides you through setting up a BIOS image the first time you launch it, not to mention how easy it would be to find and download the BIOS files today vs 25 years ago with metacrawling random geocities, angelfire, and homestead pages for "a" valid BIOS file to load into PSEmu. I figured out that shit on my own back then, and I assume most kids did as well, I learned that emulators even were a thing back then from a classmate in computer lab.

>>12124929
>"Ha ha I am better than you because I touch grass" ... says the anon posting on 4chan'a retro games board.

>>12125269
Generally a retail BIOS is preferred even for emulators that have the option of using their own homebrewed one because it's usually more accurate/causes less problems, and a lot of those built in bioses tend to be the absolute bare minimum in terms of functionality vs the official one. You also generally don't want HLE nowadays for older systems, relying on almost exclusively HLE is what left N64 emulation as a hot mess for decades, ZSNES over-relied on it as well to similar results.

>>12125307
>I had only emulated 3rd and 4th gen before and used ePSXe
ePSXe needed a BIOS too, the exact same BIOS files

>and whatever the N64 emulator is
Anon, there are like a dozen different N64 emulators...
>>
>>12124832
You sound like the daily posters in r/roms, I've never seen more tarded people in my entire life. The same stupid questions every day. I just don't get how they can actually function in society.
>>
you literally dont need the BIOS to run duckstation.

I couldn't use Callus to play CPS1 games in 2002 because I did not know how to create a roms folder.

However, I knew absolutely *nothing* about computers and was a teenager at the time surrounded by other people who knew nothing about computers. I was working completely blind but knew from magazines what emulators could offer.

>I find the file my emulator asks me for
>I place it in the folder my emulator wants
>I open my ROMs
The hardest part of this is finding a BIOS, but once you're past that hurdle it's ezpz. Then again, tech illiterates these days don't even understand how directory structures work...
>>12125124
Duckstation should be even easier to use.

should stick with jrpg slop, all you need is to know how to move the character and mash the action/accept button.

According to my calculations, the reality is that I should be at least 500x smarter than that.

your brain is a part of your body anon and needs to be wrecked to do addict behavior
