>RNG fish
Who thought this was a good idea? Everything else in this game is 100% fair.
I particularly hate when they hit your feet making you jump prematurely

shit, did hell freeze over?

Just keep running and do short hops. They never hit you. 6-3 is one of the easiest levels in the ladder half of the game.

You see, it was not a mistake, but an obscure reference to the half ladders in Nintendo's 1981 arcade classic "Donkey Kong."

>Hammer Bros
>RNG fish
>Bugged Lakitus
>Maze trial-and-error castle levels
Honestly it has a lot of flaws, but it's such a short game that it's hard to really complain about it too much.

having to 1v1 like 3 hammer bros was the most ridiculous shit in the game. It's pure rng if you forget to blaze through
>>
>>12127221
I always thought the first blind jump on 8-1 was bullshit because you have to make sure you load the parakoopas just right when you are approaching.
>>
I like blindly running forward wheeee
>>
>>12127521
It's not hard. Just stand in front of them and wait for them to jump up.

Now, the ones that come towards you....yeah
>>
>>12127513
>Maze trial-and-error castle levels
Those were the coolest tho. Castles are just way too easy
>>
>>12127962
blindly run towards them woo hooo

Hi.

>Not getting any coins.
>Not getting any powerups.
>Not hitting the top of the flagpole, despite waiting at the end.
Joyless run.
>>
>>12129007
Do people go out of their way to get coins in a Mario game? I always just ignore them. 100 coins for a 1-UP is not even close to worth the effort.
>>
>>12129031
You don't get coins for the 1-up. You get them because collecting the coins is fun. Also, all of those coins can be gotten in that level without slowing down.
>>
Why should everything be neatly predetermined? They never imagined back then that mentally ill freaks would want to beat the game as fast as possible and thus needed an optimal order of buttom presses, which is impossible if there is randomness.
>>
>>12128792
Super easy to trick and avoid
>>12129042
Not a speed trooner, it's just really annoying no matter your skill level
>>
>>12128792
hey how's the kids
>>
>>12129042
>Why should everything be neatly predetermined?
Because people hate actually having to use their reflexes and think on the fly. People don't mind bashing their heads over and over so long as the solution is "fixed", until they learn the sequence of button presses to get through something. It's why Kaizo gurus should really not be as revered as they are, because if you've seen them play any other platformers, they look no different than the average skilled player, despite the levels being far simpler in design.

It's a video game, man. No one cares that you have superman level reflexes, I just want to enjoy the game without RNG luck-based bullshit. Is that too much to ask, for the game to be FUN
>>
>>12131072
>It's why Kaizo gurus should really not be as revered as they are, because if you've seen them play any other platformers, they look no different than the average skilled player, despite the levels being far simpler in design.
I don't know who this is referring to, but its definitely not true. A lot of those people collect 1CC like they're candy. Also, its fairly common for skilled Kaizo players to be able to first or second try Kaizo levels while sight reading them. Just because you are bad at video games doesn't mean everyone else is.

Evidence points to the contrary
>>
>>12127221
I dont think its too hard but latter levels really seem to rely on them for additional challenge.
>>
>>12127221
They're not RNG.
>>
>>12127221
RNG is fun when it's fair, and I think the fish are fine
The hammer guys are way more annoying but I don't play Mario that much maybe it's a skill issue
Whenever I see people complain about RNG I assume they're speedtrannies afraid of ruining their "runs" but I hope I'm wrong in this case/thread
>>
>>12132656
Having a timer like that where you die when it reachest 0 is just a holdover from arcade games where the arcade owners didn't want people to stay in a safe spot forever and never die, but since consoles were new at the time it took developers a while to remove them (especially japanese devs, since japs are extremely traditionalist in general)
>>
>>12127221
i always just do tiny little hops everywhere, when the fish lvls happen. im not sure if it actually helps or is advantageous or anything. its just what ive been doing since i was a kid
>>
>>12129031
sure it is
if you get all the coins, not only are you getting the bonus hidden 1-up shroom in each proceeding world, but youll probably get an extra life just from the coins too. if youre trying to get through the 7th/8th world without continues, thats definitely gonna help
>>
>>12127221
I like it, it keeps you on your toes Also Lakitu/spinies, the hammer bros and Bowser patterns are RNG I think.

They most certainly are.
>>
>>12133152
That is meaningless. It's not RNG.
I'll tell you why all of that is meaningless, anon, because the majority of SMB is hidden from most players. No scanner will uncover them due to some lost knowledge.
But make no mistake, those are not random in any way. They have set patterns that YOU the player fully determine.

-t. The Grand Master of Super Mario Bros.
>>
>>12133189
>No scanner will uncover them due to some lost knowledge.
What did he mean by this?
>>
>>12133210
I meant that there's hidden levels and another mode selectable from the title screen, only for the very best players.
Youtube personalities and Wikepedia;et al don't know as much as they think they know about SMB.
>>
>>12131265
>The more you play Kaizo, you'll uh.. be better at Kaizo!
No fucking way, retard? Never figured.
>A lot of those people collect 1CC like they're candy
Proof? If you say Ryu, you've already lost. For every 1CC clear proof you show me, I'll show you a clip where he's struggling in a laughably easy Crash Bandicoot level.
>>
>>12132993
The hammer bros are like Bowser, you want to blitz through them before they get to jumping and have enough time to catch you in a bad position. Running underneath a Hammer Bro when they have different altitudes of platforms is the safest.
>>
>>12129034
This, nobody gives a shit about score, the coins give you something to do. Maybe you'll choose to play safe over jumping for coins but those micro decisions add weight and risk/reward, which is fun, even if the reward is superfluous
>>
>>12133152
>They most certainly are.
>pseudorandombitreg+1,x
>pseudo
no theyre literally not
they are set patterns based on when you turn the console on iirc. mightve been when you start the game
it gives the illusion of being random, but its not ACTUALLY random
>>
>>12133008
lemme guess, you think limited lives/continues are artificial difficulty?
