Surprisingly good but definitely not for everyone.

The game is a lot better when you have access to save states. It's just too long to beat comfortably in one sitting without cheating. Never beat the game until I was able to do that as part of the Sega Genesis Collection for the PS2. Or it might have been the PS3. One of those versions.
Just don't try and cut corners and let yourself end up in the Bloody Swamp. You're gonna be in for a bad time.

I love the soundtrack of this game. I also love how this game feels like it actively hates you and actually wants you to die. It's not a game. It's not a challenge for you to overcome. It wants to actually kill you and will do whatever it can to pull that off. There's so little lore and backstory in the game, but it really sets the feel for the tone for the game which the levels and soundtrack then go on to nail.
Controls could be better. They're a bit slippery.

I played the fuck out of this game as a kid. Cartridge version, no saving.
The game is too long for its own good but it's designed to be played over and over and over again. You're missing the point if you run through the game once with save states.
Not only does the game have branching level paths, the levels themselves often have multiple paths and your choice of helmet changes how you play.
There are a ton of hidden blocks and walk-through walls that keep it fun to explore levels you've played before.

I was never able to finish the game as a kid, but one day as a teen I sat down and was finally able to beat it. My years worth of playing KC was leading up to that moment and it was the happiest I've ever felt completing a game.
Kid Chameleon is an insurmountable challenge but it manages to stay fun for every attempt.

Is Chameleon Kid related to Alex the Kidd.
>>
>>12129294
Alex is a dorky little monkey boy. KC doesn't hang out with dorks.
>>

His last name isn't Kid, kid

The answer lies with Alex Kidd in chameleon World for the Master System.

Kid Chameleon is the kind of kid who bangs the hottest teacher in the school when he's only 15.

Spread her legs, put on the Berserker helm, and charge.

Yep, this. Always played 2 players with bro. Was entertaining just seeing the different routes we would take and the various stages and bosses.

Post your all-levels clear of Super Mario Bros NES.

The game is incredible for its system, year and context. Wish it had a save feature and more engaging soundtrack.

Surprised it never became a franchise

>>12133859
It seems like one of those games that would have gotten a shitty remake or sequel 25 years later.

What's the Bloody Swamp again? The awful, awful killer wall level?
>>
>>12134919
Yep. I love it personally. Hilarious watching others play through it.

Yeah. It's the run ender. I think I beat the level once. Never want to touch it again though. This video isn't me, but gives you a sample of what the level is like.
