Did you get one at launch? What are your best memories with it? What's your favorite game(s)?

I was 2 when the PS2 came out, but it was my first console because my dad owned one. First games I remember playing were Crash Wrath of Cortex, SpongeBob Dutchman, THPS3, and Vice City. Idk about a fav game, I like too many.
>>
>>12128363
it's still my primary console. vidya went downhill after the success of the ps2.

Boys, do you remember when launch titles looked like this?
I am not joking, if a modern console had a roster like this, with this much variety and quality of genres, it would outsell.every competitor

>Did you get one at launch?
No. I was one of those very low IQ kids who went with the Gamecube first and instantly regretted it. Then I got an Xbox a year later (loved it) and then a modded ps2 last from my friend. I never touched the shitcube again after RE4.
>>
>>12128363
Got one in early 2003 with GTA Vice City. I was happy. Since the disc drive was better it even played some of my scratched PS1 discs that had been unplayable

These games aren't groundbreaking, but that's still a good thing.
Imagine if we'd had the 2001 lineup at launch... the whole world would have gone into a frenzy to buy a PS2, a chaotic scene inside every store with lines stretching down the block... jesus.

I'd ask how they did it, but they're all boring.

Armored Core 2/AA and SSX would give me the most mileage and bang for my buck.
>>
i save dmy money and bought a game cube. which i did have fun with but i immensely regretted not getting an xbox or a ps2 at the time. it doesn't matter now since i have all three and can play whatever i want, but a ps2 would have given me so much more mileage back then.

I bought PS2 with money from my first summer job in 2001 July. The console came with Gran Turismo, maybe 3?, and bought Quake 3 along with it. Played Quake 3 a lot with my friends, 9/11 happened while we were playing it after school. Later got Tekken Tag Tournament and it was fucking awesome. Got Dark Cloud the christmas, FFX released the following spring, got MGS 2 bit after.

Later would play Kingdom Hearts, FFX-2, Tekken 4 and Tekken 5 and Dark Chronicle (Dark Cloud 2). Disgaea and MGS3 were the last iconic games I played on PS2.

I mean a good bunch of them are classics though. And the point is you got a system which launched w almost all of the genres, exciting new graphics and gameplay. Also, snowboarding games had been in at the time, armored core is consider a classic. Unreal and timesplitters (I thought quake was a launch title too because I remember it being the first game my buddy got for his) would keep you occupied w friends for months. Tekken Tag and Street fighter ex 3, both great fighters that make going to the arcade less poignant. Midnight club was an awesome racing tech demo showing off the new systems graphics that I still turn on to this day and just kind of soak in the nostalgia. The gameplay is still fine. Didn’t play ridge racer but I know a lot of people are big fans. Was the Bouncer not a launch title? I thought it sucked but a lot of people seem to like it.

God Hand was literally one of the OG 4chan contrarian favorites. Begone, zoomer.
>>
>>12130478
Oh shit I didn’t realize this game was a road rage like. Is the main premise to try and knock people off while racing or was that just a gimmick mode?
>>
>>12130478
looks very fun.
>>
>>12130541
Actually it's a SomethingAwful "pretend something terrible is good" game.
>>
>>12130543
There's two main modes, both in the format of a race. You have your long tracks which are extremely well designed and all have central mechanics like the forest getting set on fire half way thru, or riding through an advancing army complete with platoons and vehicles in formation. In standard long track races you can perform tricks to level up your weapon which goes from punch->kick->check->stick->bottle (thrown) and this is used by you and other racers to take out competitors temporarily.

The other mode is scoring which is done on a small track, still in the format of a race but your position is determined by your points which you of course get by doing tricks. These are short and a smaller part of the main game.
