M.C. Kids is unironically one of the best western-developer platformers.
The Mario hack, M.C. Mario, is also a good way to play if you don't want the kid sprites (though I think they are soulful too)

This is the best game to get SNES drones to start playing Mega Drive.
>Recognisable, approachable, and feels "safe"
>Not too hard so lower skilled players could get through it

I kind of wish M.C. Kids was ported over to the Genesis, instead we got Global Gladiators which doesn't even feel like a McDonalds game at all

I dig how Dynamite Headdy it feels, and it can be just as creative with its setpieces. You're either turned off by the theming or find it comfy and nostalgic. Amusingly there's an uncensor patch - they replaced gold rings with jewels because that other franchise with the rings exists, and the jungle had ooga booga big lipped nigra tribesmen instead of the weird Beau from Headdy-looking guys.

I've tried to get into Headdy numerous times (THAT'S HEDLY!!) and just kind of always get horribly disinterested by it after the tutorial. Maybe I need to spend more time with it? Who knows?

The grappling scarf was the basis which they expanded upon with Dynamite Headdy and eventually Hippa Linda doing better. It was a great learning property to kickstart their development. They just make games which are interesting and impressive to me.
