Then your father dies, you get enslaved, and later you marry the rich girl you don’t really love while your childhood friend laments her lonely desert village life, reflecting on what could have been. Then your wife gets kidnapped by a demonic horse who kicks your teeth in and turns you to stone. Even when your kids save you, the whole world is still fucked up, and you have to trudge through hell to save the day and kill some guy who was evil literally just for the sake of it. You’re reunited with your family one last time and it's a beautiful but melancholic and contemplative ending. You aren’t even special at the end of the day. Your kids were, and what gave you strength all along was the love your father gave you as a child. Thus this makes the protagonist a sort of Charles Foster Kane esque character

She gives you the power to form bonds with monsters. Your children being the chosen ones is honestly better than if you were the chosen one, thats not a feel bad moment. I dont know if youre the original guy but the game is far from misery porn. It has stakes and the characters get into trouble but you triumph at the end, like every single story in history.
